I think this song is more in the vein of R&B than pop..it’s ambiguous, really…I don’t think Darkchild’s beats are “pop” ….maybe a few years ago it might have been, but since Timbaland switched it up, “pop” is considerable more “mainstream”…This sounds like R&B in the same way that Brandy’s “What About Us” sounded like R&B. I think she’s messing up her legacy, honestly. But, I’ll digress…I know there are loads of Janet fans here and I clearly am not one…

Just to clarify: Mariah’s album is executively produced by JD and Janet’s is executively produced by LA Reid.

As for Janet needing to go more R&B: Janet has never been R&B. She’ll give you one R&B track per album (”That’s the way love goes”, “All for you”, “I get so lonely”)…maybe two but that is not her forte. She never releases a R&B sounding single first either. She is working her forte and this time around, it seems like she’s leaving more swagger on the track. She just needs a hot video! Shoot a hot video, girl!

Its not even singing…..its robot talk. I think I am just upset cause I was expecting her to come out with a bang. I see some people in here like it, cause you can dance to it (although I dont know what club is going to play this mess) but songs that are popular in the club dont necessarily turn into hits on the charts. I disagree “Velvet Rope” had more R&B songs than pop…she released “Got Till’ It’s Gone” as a first single off the “Velvet Rope” album and that song like many others was the spark of the neo-soul movement in the 90’s. J-Dilla produced that song and has produced so many hip-hop artist and neo-soul artist today and back in the 90’s. RIP Dilla!!!

I love “The velvet rope” as well, but an album like that wouldn’t sell today. A lot folks hated on that album back in ‘97 and many folks point to that record as the start of her decline. Even though artistically it was her best. Folks claim they want grown folks music but they don’t buy grown folks music. If they did the new Jill Scott would be double platinum instead of triple plastic.
