As for Janet needing to go more R&B: Janet has never been R&B. She’ll give you one R&B track per album (”That’s the way love goes”, “All for you”, “I get so lonely”)…maybe two but that is not her forte. She never releases a R&B sounding single first either. She is working her forte and this time around, it seems like she’s leaving more swagger on the track. She just needs a hot video! Shoot a hot video, girl!

I disagree “Velvet Rope” had more R&B songs than pop…she released “Got Till’ It’s Gone” as a first single off the “Velvet Rope” album and that song like many others was the spark of the neo-soul movement in the 90’s. I love “The velvet rope” as well, but an album like that wouldn’t sell today. A lot folks hated on that album back in ‘97 and many folks point to that record as the start of her decline. Even though artistically it was her best. Folks claim they want grown folks music but they don’t buy grown folks music. Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle, even Cher all had hits with a musical sound that was an excursion from where they began. Aretha had “Pink Cadillac” which showcased a heavy 80’s sound, Patti had “New Attitude” which was also 80’s and very different from the 70’s Funk of “Labelle.” Cher had the Electronica hit “Believe” which took her out of her folkish pop sound of the late 60’s and early 70’s.

Janet is not doing anything different than any other established artist who is aging, has done.

That said, it does have a Britney sound and it needs to be more mature. Janet can actually write, so she should go with a newer sound with mature lyrics. Make your audience meet you where you are, and you will always succeed. It is when you go out and try to meet them, that you fail.

Anyone who listens to Janet’s CDs will be hard pressed to say they couldn’t find something that was “fire” on each of them. On All for you, there is a song called “Truth” that is fantastic. Anyone who says she isn’t R&B as well as Pop isn’t paying attention.

As for 20 Y/O I rocked that CD in my truck for months and we have 6 children (yes, I said 6, I became an attorney just over the grocery bill *wink), three teens and 2 pre-teens who became fans of Janet after the seeing her concert video with me. She isn’t a “singer” but these days, who is? I think real singers went out with with Whitney, Anita Baker, etc. but as for an all around performer who is FIRE on stage, Janet is the queen.. 20 Y.O. was not a bad CD. I used to listen to it in the car as I traveled every weekend. It got me from Austin to Dallas every weekend. I think they didn’t market 20 Y.O. right. Call On Me shouldn’t have been the first song released. I believe they thought since Nelly was ft. it was going to do really well. But it didnt workout that way. So Excited should have been released first followed by on of the slower jams. Also, (Roll Witchu) was on the bonus tracks released on the Japanese version was FIYAH!!!!! This song definately should have been a song on the CD.

Janet Jackson - Feedback

The rumor was that Janet Jackson’s new single was supposed to leak this weekend, but it’s just Wednesday and here it is. I have to admit, I was completely excited when I heard that Janet was going to release a single this early, and the album isn’t due out until February of ‘08. I guess she wanted a little feedback on the new single, “Feedback.” It’s definitely a cool dance record.

I must say, I am much more impressed with this track than I was with anything else that she dropped from last year’s 20 Y.O. I’m definitely rooting for Janet. I think she’s made some good choices, as far as her move to Def Jam and allowing L.A. Reid to be the executive producer of the album. Supposedly, the new single is produced by either Danjahandz, Timbaland’s protege, who produced the bulk of Britney’s new album - or Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, who is responsible for countless hits. Lat time I checked Damita Jo didn’t flop. Only if you compare it to Janet’s past releases could it be considered a flop. It did sell 3 million plus so if it flopped I guess every other artist out there did as well. Now 20 y.o. was meager, but that’s expected when your just trying to fulfill the end of your contract. Oh yeah and the Janet fans are here and have always been we’ve just been busy juicing Beyonce and Ciara for there little runs at the top!

Damita Jo was a GREAT album. It is in my top Janet 2. I am super excited for this new album. I def hope that it has diversity of songs.. that is really what 20 yo lacked it was pretty much the same thing track after track. the nice thing about a janet album is generally you get hit and hit and each one is different matches a different mood/activity. I am eagerly awaiting the cd to drop. hopefully they will move the drop date up.

Janet deserves all of the props she didn’t get in the recent past. “Feedback” is a mofo hit song regardless of whether radio and mtv (and whoever else) doesn’t support it. If it’s done nothing else it’s made one thing clear….Janet Jackson is a name that people can’t keep out of their freakin mouths- the true mark of a superstar. According to CNN, Janet’s new song “Feedback” is the subject of 1.34 million blogs around the world in a matter of 5 hours, and radio stations across the country has been swamped with hundreds of thousands of phone calls to play the song, making “Feeback” the most successful debut leak in music history. Major radio station website has been stalled because traffic for the song spiked damn near ninety percent. They said no other leak has generated this much buzz and anticipation since, well, never. No disrespect (except to that nutbox Britney) but JLo–JJ’s former backup dancer, Ciara, Amerie, etc. all mimic what Janet (Jody W. too) brought to the table years ago. They may not be the best singers but they make danceable pop music with catchy hooks–PERIOD. I had a deep house moment while playing this track so I can’t wait for the CD to drop.

Well this track sounds ok i guess, I just hope that since Janet refuses to SIT DOWN that she reinvents herself with this album. I mean, i kinda feel like her STYLE hasn’t changed much. All her videos seem to have the same concept —- can anyone say Rhythm Nation???? She should reveal a more personal side of herself with this album. Give the fans something new! I mean this is only Beyonce’s 2nd album and both CD’s are drastically different cause B is always trying new things and changing the game up! And with Jermaine being her BOO, (who was also behind the success of Mariah’s latest CD “The Emancipation of Mimi”) it only seems natural that her new album should reflect that:)

Beyonce didn’t change a damn thing from “DIL” to “B-day”. It was the same up-tempo r&b/dance hybrid as before. Only difference is the quality of music wasn’t as good the second time around. And if you like “the velvet rope” as you claim then you would know how personal that album is. So why would you say that Janet never gets personal or shows growth. Every janet album from “control” through “The velvet rope” was a constant progression from the one before. She probably changed her sound up more than any other female R&B artist during the 80s and 90s. She really didn’t become stagnant until the AFY era. Few R&B artist have a body of work as diverse as Janets. And thats real.

I think it is BEYOND HOTTTT!!! I love it and I’m definitely proud of Janet this time around! I was a lil nervous on that last one!

I just hope that Janet wins in this unspoken competition between her (LA Reid) and Mariah (JD). Mariah annoys me. Her stage presence is garbage these days and her performances are boring. At least if Janet makes a comeback you can expect some hot stage performances with hot dance moves…even if she does lip synch lol. It’s what Janet does.

This track is getting so much buzz, it’s ridiculous! I don’t see how they can get it wrong this time around. All she needs is a hot video. Not something dark and crap like “So excited”. Something flashy and high octane and sexy. If they can pull that off, she’ll shut down 2008.

I’m Not a feather weight fan nor am i one of those fake ass music critics who say an album sucks after only hearing 2 singles. I think it’s a great thing that Janet is back to her “roots” dance is her genre, matter of fact she dominates it. Without even having the strongest voice she still became one of the top selling females from the ’80’s, who is still doing it and successfully. Platinum, last time I checked still meant a successful record. How many artists 20 years deep are still putting up numbers like that?

She’s not growing dramatically like she grew between CONTROL and RHYTHM NATION, or the UNPARALLED GROWTH between JANET and VELVET ROPE. Conceptually she’s had nothing to say in years. The title of the record DISCIPLINE sounds more like a concept piece.

This is it for Janet, she better land it on this one and kick ass on the Videos and the TOUR. Visually I would like to see her STRAIGHT UP DANCE and get back to her raw performing talent. Less focus on the sexual subject matter and a brand new hairstyle that could spark a trend with the average black chick is so necessary.

Janet needs to connect with her roots from a linear level. Don’t come so “JACKSON” all the time. Now I wasn’t a huge fan of the album JANET. but what I will say is she was to be congratulated on the way that she ( through Rene’s insight ) came through the side door with ” That’s the Way love Goes” instead of coming through the front door making a big deal.

FEEDBACK is HOT but I know DISCIPLINE will be a reflection of her passion to perform and make the biggest comeback of her ENTIRE career.
