NEW MUSIC FROM MC LYTE

Monday, December 10, 2007

mclyte.jpg

MC Lyte - Beautiful

MC Lyte’s voice is a force not to be reckoned with. I just love to hear her ride a beat. It’s been a while since she’s dropped any records, so I’m happy to hear her on this. I can’t remember the last time I’d heard MC Lyte on a track. Either way, I’m digging the song. Although the production isn’t anything new or groundbreaking, it still has a sense of warmth and familiarity. I’m hoping that this track is more than just a tease, and that MC Lyte’s new album, Back to the Lyte drops soon.

She’s been doing her thing 4 a while, and ppl such as Missy Elliott and Da Brat have paid homage to her for paving the way for them…BUT…i think it’s time to give up the music thing and maybe do some production, artist development, or acting…u cant be a rapper when ur like 45 yrs old (not that she;s 45, but u know what i mean)

I see MC Lyte is embracing the Alternative Lifestyle, huh….

Speaking of which:
Has anyone else heard the rumour the Queen Latifah is getting married to her long time partner/trainer Jeanette Jenkins ??

Google “Queen Latifah getting Married”

“I see MC Lyte is embracing the Alternative Lifestyle, huh….”

who the hell cares. And what could that possibly have to do with her timelessness in the rap game.

Love her esp her 2nd comeback during the early-mid 90s with “rough neck”

This is a nice track. There’s so much room for a positive (read:normal) female hiphop artist in the game right now. It’s sad that our daughters and wives have to pick between Kim, Fox, and Remi.

OK…stop the hating!!!! Yall need to Chill on Lyte and her age, cause all these kats out here that’s doin the do in the game is in her age group! To be real, Jay Z, LL, Most of the Wu, and pretty much anybody that’s really anything be heard is around her age…

Monday, December 10, 2007 /

Oh yeah, I loved Lyte back in the day. It’s funny because I was just cleaning out some of my old high school stuff and I found my Eyes on This cassette. Timeless!

I also loved her rhyme on the Self Destruction single….”there’s only one disco, they’ll close one more you ain’t guardin the door, so what you got a gun for? Do you rob the rich and give to the poor…?” I love it!!!

I wonder how a song like that would go with today’s rappers. I guess they’d have to get past all the bling and girls shakin their booties all over the place. lol!

Embark, I couldn’t agree with you more. Just b/c she’s not talking about being the baddest b***h, her nana and diamond encrusted chinchilla earmuffs, doesn’t mean that her music is passe or irrelevant. I’m glad she’s reintroducing more upbeat and positive lyrics to the rap scene. She looks pretty in the pic too, alternative lifestyle or not.

26.

Monday, December 10, 2007 /

How old are some of you on here??Mc Lyte is hip hop royalty you better recognize!! I guess some of you are 2 busy shaking your asses to Solja Boy to know what a real artist is all about. And WTF, Bill with your “I see MC Lyte is embracing the Alternative Lifestyle, huh” What does that have to do with her music?? Or Queen Latifah’s talents? Queen Latifah was NOT mentioned here! Are you boning either one of them? If not let it go!

27.

chacha123

Monday, December 10, 2007 /

Also, you are not dead if you’re over 30! There are plenty of “older” rappers still doing their thing. When you are doing something you love, there are no age constraints. This was how she started so I can see how she might want to test today’s market and see how well she does. Plus, I’m sure it’s just fun for her to do.

Trust me, when Lil Wayne is 50, he’ll still be rockin a grill (dentured) and releasing “The Carter LX”!

#4 must be young as hell. McLyte paved the way for all these female rap artists out now so why should she give it a rest when the rap game for females is wide open now. Ain’t nobody doing $hit. Would you tell Micheal Jackson the same thing? No, because he is a legend. And so is Lyte.

I like this song by Lyte. And I don’t care for short hairstyles but her hair is the $hit!

There is a huge difference between an older man and an older woman in this society…it’s why so many people are like WHAT?!! I, personally, don’t see it happening for any female rapper, unless she’s in a group with a lot of hyper kinetic dudes…Like the Crime Mob girl (cause one is out).

MC Lyte (born Lana Michele Moorer, 11 October 1970, Brooklyn, New York) is a female rap artist and the younger sister of Milk Dee and Gizmo, who recorded under the name of Audio Two.

36.

You can tell there are a bunch of young and sensless children in tha house. Lyte can still git down and rap circles around the “so called” women mc’s that are in the game now. Hell when was 30 the new 50, I’m 36 and people think i’m 21 because some of yall look old ass hell for 20 year olds, but dumb as hell. Thats just my opinion.

Crazy

Monday, December 10, 2007 /

Lyte is actually part of a group called “Almost September” which is where this song comes from. This woman still has it, so why can’t she continue to rock? What does her sexuality have to do with her skills, it’s crazy that anytime Lyte is mentioned people was talk about something that they really no nothing about.

“Kick this one for Brooklyn”. I am trying not to take these posts to hard to heart…not to mention that she is the “dopest female thus far”, and probably will be and she is also a Honorary Soror of my sorority….I just “cram to understand”, why is that it’s ok that Madonna and other ol’ azz white performers can be embraced by their white peers and others…but here it is a hip-hop legend, still doing her thang and is fly azz hell people have to be putting we as black folks down on this Rap Rhoyalty?

The female rap game is mess up, there ain’t nobody in the game or that has been in the game that is still holding it down:

Lauren Hill: “Lost One”
Eve: Has not been consistent, since Dr. Dre stopped producing her ish
Lil Kim: Biggie was her Writer, resorted to Ghost Writers, been in jail and is basically not as influential
Remy Ma: Was Fat Joe’s Ghost Writer, has been in jail and is basically not essential to the game
Foxy Brown: Jay Z was her Ghost Writer, has been in jail and is basically not essential to anyone….yet alone the rap game
Trina: => NEXT
Charlie Baltimore: Biggie Protoge’ dried up and has never been a threat to the game at all
Rah Digga; Not that essential
The Bratt: Essentail for a min
Queen Latifah: Left the rap game for old white folks music
Missy Elliot: Is more a singer/producer but can have the best of all worlds, but rap game is alright!

NEED NOT SAY MORE!

Not to be off subject but I live in Cali and my sister and I attempted to get into the I Love New York Reunion Show. Well we actually had an “e-mail invite” but somehow didn’t get in. I think the VH1 staff felt that there were enough nigg@hs in the building. They actually pulled some nerdy whites from the back of the line and formed another line. The extra blacks that did get in actually creeped over to that other line. Me and my sister played grown and just stayed in our spot(the 6th spot at that and had a blue ribbon on our wrisks). And to think I missed work for that day for that chit. If I didn’t sign that damn contract I would tell you who I thought won. I got some pics on my cell phone of some of the guys when they arrived. They did come to the gate and let us take pics. But one person arrived alone and the media totally surrounded him. Anywho, I’m loosing some love with VH1. They just refused to let that audience be predominantly BLACK.
