I have family who were personal friends of Ike and Tina when they started out. They saw Tina’s movie “What’s love gotta to do” and could not believe how Tina Turner portrayed Ike as this womanizing wife beater and could not believe the lies. They admitted that Ike was rough to Tina when he got high, but they both got high and drunk and would fight with each other something awful. Also, they said that Tina slept around with any and everybody she could and would start outbursts with Ike in public, especially when she got high. They both were heavy into drugs and drinking- another detail her movie conveniently left out. My uncle told me he even called Ike after the movie came out and talked about the lies and encouraged him to come out with his story. Ike did come out with his, but not too many people seemed to care by that time. My family has absolutely no reason to lie about this. Tina is not the innocent victim that she portrayed herself to be. Shame on her. The world has been fooled by Tina’s lies, but there are those who know the truth. Rest in peace Ike!

BUT, he was also a wife beater and a rapist which is the trump card. No matter what he did in life, he will and should always be known for the violence he perpetuated against his wife. I saw Ike Turner at the Blue Note in New York in Spring 1998. It was one of the best rock/blues performances I have ever seen. Since then I have been able to listen to some of his other music. Risin’ With The Blues I bought at dealstudio.com is the album I like best. It won Turner a Grammy for Best Traditional Blues Album for 2007. I think his music, on the other hand, will live on with us forever.
