NEWS: MUSICIAN IKE TURNER PASSES
Wednesday, December 12, 2007

Reports are coming in that musician Ike Turner died today at the age of 76.
“He did pass away this morning” at his home in San Marcos, in northern San Diego County, said Scott M. Hanover of Thrill Entertainment Group, which managed Turner’s musical career.
There was no immediate word on the cause of death, which was first reported by celebrity website TMZ.com.
Turner managed to rehabilitate his image somewhat in his later years, touring around the globe with his band the Kings of Rhythm and drawing critical acclaim for his work. He won a Grammy in 2007 in the traditional blues album category for Risin’ With the Blues.
But his image is forever identified as the drug-addicted, wife-abusing husband of Tina Turner. He was hauntingly portrayed by Laurence Fishburne in the movie What’s Love Got To Do With It, based on Tina Turner’s autobiography. USA-TODAY/PHOTO: WIREIMAGE
Condolences to his family, be sure to check back for any updates…

I gotta be the ONLY black person on the planet that didn’t see What’s Love Got To Do With It. lol. Wasn’t really interested in watching it at the time due to all the hype, and never got around to it after the fact. But nonetheless, even though he was portrayed as a ROYAL ASS in the media, Ike is still a human and dead now and can’t hurt another (if that was his thing). And I know drugs played a big role in his patterns so you have to consider that too (so sad). But yeah, I understand the frustration over the lack of respect for the dead but that’s how it goes on CL. Folks change like the weather. Ya’ll stupid as hell for those movie quotes. lol. RIP Ike.

For everyone talking about how Tina slept around and did drugs and it was never mentioned in the movie. It was–(the drugs). The scene where she tried to overdose on drugs. They didnt touch down on it too much in the movie, however if you read her autobiography she wrote called “I, Tina”, it talkes about her drug use and the baby she had by Spider the saxaphonist in the book. As well as she talked about her drug use on Oprah when the movie first came out. According to her, she started drugs as an escape from Ike.
So when in the beginning credits of the the movie Whats Love Got to Do With It, it clearly states “based on the book “I, Tina” wriiten by Kurt Loder & Tina Turner” BASED means just that based on the book. Meaning that the movie isnt going to be exactly like the book because then the movie probally would of been 4 hours long. Just look at The Color Purple. The movie doesnt go over everything that happened in the book, it was BASED on the book The Color Purple. Like the scene in the movie with Celie & Shug….in the book it goes much further than the scene in the movie…..
Oh by the way RIP Ike. Wasn’t he getting ready to do a reality show or something?

What a pack of stupid “sheeple”. You all form judgement and crack jokes on the deceased based on a damn movie from way back in 1993?
Don’t you all know there’s 2 sides to every story? The movie was clearly one-sided.
And the fact that it was a movie that’s forming your low IQ opinions is what really gets me. Had the movie never been released, half of you wouldn’t even know Ike.
You would think from all these juvenile comments that you all knew Ike and Tina personally.
A bunch of kids and slow adults is all you are. RIP Ike.

The fact that Tina Turner’s side of the story was told nation-wide and not Ike Turner’s is indicative of America. When has the black man’s side to any story ever been considered, listened to, or taken seriously. That “What’s Love Got to Do With It” was one in a series of “black female empowerment” movies put out by Hollywood in the 1990’s; i.e “Set It Off”, “Waiting To Exhale, etc., who’s sole intent was to encourage separation between black men and black women by posing solitude, interracial relationships, and lesbianism as viable options for “happiness”. I’m not saying that Ike Turner wasn’t a wife-beater. I don’t know the true dynamics of their relationship, nor does anyone else. I do know that Tina Turner ended up with a series of caucasian men, like 98% of famous black women do, and that was the impetus behind the movie being made. That’s what was left out of the movie after she “found herself”, lol. If she had gotten into a positive, constructive relationship with another black man after Ike Turner, that movie would never have been made. The last thing that the white man wants to show is a happy ending between a black man and black woman. It’s also funny to me that negroes have put Ike Turner in hell and Pimp C in heaven, lol.

From Ike’s own autobiography like someone else stated:
Sure, I’ve slapped Tina… There have been times when I punched her to the ground without thinking. But I never beat her.
He, himself admitted there were times when he slapped and punched her to the ground. I personally don’t think anyone should be doomed to hell because they were abusive years ago. I don’t know what his relationship was like with God he may have made peace and that’s all that matters, not what human beings that can’t get him into the gates of heaven think of him.

#179 get over yourself. this was a movie about a woman who had to overcome some outstanding odds ( poverty, abuse) in order to become a top entertainer. no matter what the color of the person no one deserves to be beat down like that in life. it is not some damn conspiracy against the black family structure. there are plenty of so called white movies that show spousal abuse. the movies are meant to encourage women to get out of a bad situation and if the man happens to look bad… then that is his damn fault. and there have been movies about black men who overcame odds to be successful: Ali, Hurricane, Malcom X… the list goes on. why turn this into something racial. the point is Ike Turner was an abusive man and he even said so himself. I mean I feel bad that he passed away, but lets not forget who we are talking about. if he changed his life then good, but what if he did not…..only God can judge him. and as far as Tina getting with a white man, Ike was quick to marry a white woman so he was just as much of a “sell-out” as Tina ( #179 words not mine)

@189
In order for me to get over myself, you have to get over me first, lol. In regards to the white movies about spousal abuse, I could care less. That’s not what I’m concerned with, nor what I was talking about. The movies that you named about black men that overcame odds to be successful usually were pet projects of the director or producer and took outside sources to even have enough monetary resources to get made. The Hollywood studios did not and still do not want to bankroll those type of movies. The movies that I named in accordance with “What’s Love Got To Do With It” were based off of fictional books or the imagination of a screenwriter. You can throw “Something New” into that batch also. When Malcolm X and Hurricane came out in the theatres, they met critical acclaim but were followed up by a scourge of caucasians that felt the need to verify every nuance of historical accuracy in those movies. That scrutiny usually cost those movies and the lead actor during the white man’s award season. As far as the black family structure, you can argue with me but not with the statistics (that’s if you’re even a black person).

@ 179 agree with most of your comment, but to comment on your list of black female empowerment movies “Waiting to Exhale” should not be on your list.
You have:
Angela Bassett - husband left her for a white woman.
Lorretta Devine - husband was gay, left her raising their son alone.
Laila Rashon (sp) - boyfriend left her pregnant and alone, other man in her life was half alcoholic/df.
Whitney Houston - boyfriend was married.
that movie did nothing for black women, its actually depressing.
RIP IKE

The bottom line is people only respect who they want to. I mean Ray Charles was an abusive man, a drug addict and a womanizer as well (James Brown too!). But the movie was mainly focused to highlight his musical achievements and all that he overcame. Had it been based on the story of one of his many baby mommas, we might look at him very differently. And also, it depends on whether or not you’re a “sheep” as 170 eluded to. If you have your own mind, it won’t matter what the media puts out there .

I can write my ass off; and my beats are the snizzy!! Well, I pray that God will continue to bless you and yours. Your brother, Michael, of course, will return with some HITS!! You two should do another song together; remix of Beat It!! with Dej Jam’s same people helpin’ with the beats. . . Uh, your voice sounds so much clearer and out there. Continue to sing strong, out loud and full confidence, style, and diva like you always have been. You are my inspiration!! I know that 2008 will be phenomenal. You are my No. 1 dance singer banger srtist. Come back with a remix of Control and have those same guys redo that song with some FLAIR!!! Keep the faith. . .

#190 for your information I am black without question. do you work in Hollywood. how do you know those movies were “pet projects”? Hollywood is concerned about making money…period. that is why there are plenty of women and minorities who get together to make the kind of movies that Hollywood does not want to bank roll. there are plenty of “independent movies made both black and white. the reason why I mentioned the white movies about spousal abuse is because if you are going to make a generalization, then get it right! the bottom line is that What’s Love Got to do with it was not a reflection of the state of black women/men and their relationships. it was Tina’s story about her struggle. the point is that whatever issues black people have are sometimes rooted in racism, but also in sexism and some prople’s inabillity to raise their own children to grow up and be responsible citizens. and next time don’t question my blackness.

The reason why I questioned whether or not you were black is because many non-black people come onto this site in an attempt to cause confusion. Honestly sis, I’ll ask whatever question I want to ask and if you were offended I really don’t give a damn. I don’t need to work in Hollywood to understand how they use movies and television shows to introduce doctrines to weak-minded people like yourself. Do you have to see the wind to to know that there’s a tornado, lol (John 3:8). The problem is that you’re trying to contest me with your bullshit feminism but your not articulate enough to come against common sense. Now look at how silly you are. You said that Hollywood is about money, which implies that race is not a factor, but then you came back and said that for minorities and women to make movies from their own vision, they have to be “independent” films. Whatever confused negro. Lol, you made my point for me. How many people are going to see those “independent” films sis? How many minds will be affected by an independent film as opposed to a major Hollywood motion picture that gets released in thousands of theatres worldwide? What the hell are you talking about, “the bottom line is….”, as if your lightweight mentality has any authority. Sis, please be quiet because your jargon is aimless and the more you try to go back and forth the more you will expose yourself, lol.
