I have family who were personal friends of Ike and Tina when they started out. They saw Tina’s movie “What’s love gotta to do” and could not believe how Tina Turner portrayed Ike as this womanizing wife beater and could not believe the lies. They admitted that Ike was rough to Tina when he got high, but they both got high and drunk and would fight with each other something awful. Also, they said that Tina slept around with any and everybody she could and would start outbursts with Ike in public, especially when she got high. They both were heavy into drugs and drinking- another detail her movie conveniently left out. My uncle told me he even called Ike after the movie came out and talked about the lies and encouraged him to come out with his story. Ike did come out with his, but not too many people seemed to care by that time. My family has absolutely no reason to lie about this. Tina is not the innocent victim that she portrayed herself to be. Shame on her. The world has been fooled by Tina’s lies, but there are those who know the truth. Rest in peace Ike!

BUT, he was also a wife beater and a rapist which is the trump card. No matter what he did in life, he will and should always be known for the violence he perpetuated against his wife. And let’s be real, probably other women. So, with the news of his death, I say, Another one bites the dust. Because where he’s at It’s Dark and Hell is Hot.

I saw Ike Turner at the Blue Note in New York in Spring 1998. It was one of the best rock/blues performances I have ever seen. Since then I have been able to listen to some of his other music. Risin’ With The Blues I bought at dealstudio.com is the album I like best. It won Turner a Grammy for Best Traditional Blues Album for 2007. I think his music, on the other hand, will live on with us forever.

For everyone talking about how Tina slept around and did drugs and it was never mentioned in the movie. It was–(the drugs). The scene where she tried to overdose on drugs. They didnt touch down on it too much in the movie, however if you read her autobiography she wrote called “I, Tina”, it talkes about her drug use and the baby she had by Spider the saxaphonist in the book. As well as she talked about her drug use on Oprah when the movie first came out. According to her, she started drugs as an escape from Ike.

So when in the beginning credits of the the movie Whats Love Got to Do With It, it clearly states “based on the book “I, Tina” wriiten by Kurt Loder & Tina Turner” BASED means just that based on the book. Meaning that the movie isnt going to be exactly like the book because then the movie probally would of been 4 hours long. Just look at The Color Purple. The movie doesnt go over everything that happened in the book, it was BASED on the book The Color Purple. Like the scene in the movie with Celie & Shug….in the book it goes much further than the scene in the movie…..

If she had gotten into a positive, constructive relationship with another black man after Ike Turner, that movie would never have been made. The movies that you named about black men that overcame odds to be successful usually were pet projects of the director or producer and took outside sources to even have enough monetary resources to get made. The Hollywood studios did not and still do not want to bankroll those type of movies. The movies that I named in accordance with “What’s Love Got To Do With It” were based off of fictional books or the imagination of a screenwriter. You can throw “Something New” into that batch also. When Malcolm X and Hurricane came out in the theatres, they met critical acclaim but were followed up by a scourge of caucasians that felt the need to verify every nuance of historical accuracy in those movies. @Jlewis, It always worked out better when I sold the books to fellow students my damn self. I even listed some on half.com. They sold pretty fast and I didnt feel raped when it was over. The whole textbook thing is a racket. I took A&P 1 to learn that by A&P 2 there would be a new textbook. Thank God my prof. said we could still get by with the same book. I would have hated to be the only one with the old version. But I sure would have gotten over it.

This is like really the first semester where I was like wtf…cause usually I might walk away with $150 on a good day but not this semester. Plus I took my books off campus thinking I’d get a better deal. I should have been like give me the damn books back. I still have one more to sell after my final tomorrow. Hope I can get 30 to 40 off of it but I doubt it. I’ve learned my lesson. Just 2 more semesters of this shit and I’m out!!!
