You put so much hate into what you were saying…Yes, you are entitled to your own opinon but the way you stated it made you sound like a HATER. N you had an attitude about it. Oh…you all gotta go check out The Great Debaters. I saw it at a pre-screening last week…and it is well…GREAT!! I plan to go see it again on the 25th. Great movie! Great cast! Great story! Just great!

Jurness has a old school beauty she looks like someone from the twenties all covered up..it’s refreshing to see natural beauty and clothes…instead of Magic City all day (azz and titties) seriously. Keep it up.
Part of me wants to see this movie to support and see something different.

I’m going to check it out. It’s a great story and few people know the history of Wiley College debate team. It’s nice to see movies that focus on the triumps of African Americans every once in a while. We’re bombarded w/ so much negativity, it’s like you almost forget how many amazing black people are in our presence. Plus the reviews are all great and Forest Whitaker and Denzel are two of my favorite actors. Can’t ask for more!

@ #77- the majority of the time movies are released either the day before or on the holiday because they generate lots of $$$ on these days. They believe that some people will spend time and go to the movies with their families and most people are off the next day or 2. I hated this when I worked at the theater b/c I couldnt get off until almost 2am the next day
… but the overtime was GRRREAT!!!

Everyone is talking about the recognizable cast members, but I’m here to shine some light on Ms.Sharon Jones. She’s the little woman on the far left next to Denzel and she is my friend. Sharon Jones has been singing for years, her soulful voice is amazingly refreshing in this sea of Glam-Glam-Bam-Bam singers. I’m definitely not knocking anyone, I’m just saying. Most of her life she was discouraged by people who bsically told her tht she wouldn’t succeed in this business. She says people told her that she was “too black” and eventually “too black and too old” but Sharon believed in herself and her talent and kept pressing on.
Today, she is the dynamic lead singer for a popular band called Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings. The Dap-Kings were the backing band for Amy Winehouse recently. By a fluke, Sharon happened upon an audition for a movie in which she had to sing. She didn’t know who was involved in the movie or what it was about. When she got there and sang, she blew everyone away! Her personality is just as real as they come and she is a pleasure to know. By the way, Ms. Jones is from Brooklyn, NY…need I say more?
So, Sharon got the part in the movie and she was also asked to sing on the soundtrack as well. She is singing on six tracks. Sharon is also on tour with the Dap-Kings and they have an awesome new cd out titled “100 days…100 nights”. Check them out at ….www.myspace.com/sharonjonesandthedapkings

I’m just telling this story to say to everyone with a dream: believe in YOU and stay encouraged no matter what anyone has to say. No man has your destiny in his hands, GOD does and if someone wants to treat you unfavorably, don’t be fazed, know that they are part of a bigger plan that neither you or them may be able to see at that point. Trust me, it will all unfold in God’s own time.
Please support the movie, please support those involved. There are very real stories of adversity and triumph behind each of these faces. If you’re breathing, you know what I’m talking about because we each have a story. Don’t ever give up!
