THE NEW MUSIC REVIEW

Mary J. Blige feat. Ludacris – Grown Woman (full) – listen
The Mary J. Blige album, Growing Pains, due out next Tuesday has pretty much leaked in its entirety. I’ve liked everything I’ve heard so far, including this track. “Grown Woman” is an up tempo jam, which Mary seems to be having a lot of fun with these days. In the song, she pretty much calls out labels the whole time, which many artist seem to be turning to these days. I think this song could definitely be single material for her – it’s very radio friendly. Especially with Ludacris on it. Growing Pains is sure to win Mary some new fans.

The Dream – Nikki (full) – listen
“Nikki” is one of my favorite songs from the Dream’s debut, Love/Hate, which hit stores yesterday. I don’t know what it is about the material on his album, I just like the progression of the whole album, and it goes through several different movements. “Nikki” reminds me of a Prince song – especially lyrically. I think that’s what’s got me hooked on listening to this album. Although his voice does get to me sometimes, I definitely think he’s made his point as far as composition of records. Shout out to him for putting me in his thank you’s. I definitely apprecaite it.

Timbaland feat. Keri Hilson & Nicole Scherzinger – Scream (full) – listen
“Scream,” taken from Timbaland’s most recently effort, Shock Value is supposedly the 5th and last single from the album. “Scream” was among my favorites on Shock Value. Timbaland has really been milking this album for all it was worth. Despite mixed reviews from critics, it seems as though he’s still going hard, and apparently, he’s already started working on another album. Should be interesting. It’s been a great past couple years for him. Also, Keri let me know that they’re shooting a video for the song on the 18th. It should be quite interesting!

Bow Wow & Omarion feat. Cassidy & Soulja Boy – Girlfriend (Remix) (full) – listen
Faceoff was released on Tuesday. Not really into the remix too much, but then again, I can’t say that I was completely into the song to begin with. I filed through the album, but didn’t really listen to the whole thing. I guess because I wasn’t impressed by the bulk of the material that had leaked from the album. This song is just all over the place for me. It just goes in too many directions and then turns out to be completely anticlimactic at the end. But I’ll probably give the album another listen.

Mary is a BEAST yo! I was tryna find this song back when they played it on the ending credits of the “Entourage” episode she appeared on!

Although, “Falsetto” is my fave track on The Dream’s album, “Nikki” is a banger. Dream aka R&B Kanye!

Sorry, but Tim irks the shit out of me. And there are way too many chicks who do what Keri does for her to be successful.

The original “Girlfriend” was bullshit! The remix DID NOT change my mind!

Ok, whom ever did the music review is definitly in need of some Prince records. “Nikki” sounds nothing like Prince, in fact, the “Fast Car” record is more of a Prince replica. PLease listen to that again. Terrible comparison with that “Nikki” track.

Love this website anyhow, very positive.

The Face Off cd is more along the lines for teenage girls. The original Girlfriend will do me just fine.

  14. Black People Can't be Racist, Without Power: So FIGHT for Black People, without the fear of being called Racist.

Be vigilant and diligent to protect the freedom and justice of Black people. Let no one ever tell you that you are being ‘racist’ when you fight for the advancement of your people. Racism is defined as Prejudice + Power. Black people don’t have the Power to be prejudiced, nor to exercise prejudices: so no one can EVER tell you that you are racist. White people made up that word, in part, to describe their actions, their power, and their prejudice. Furthermore, being that we are behind on so many measurements for progress, we can’t afford but to Stand for superiority, not just equality: herein, always aim for higher than for what position you’ll be ok with setting into.

So, it’s clear that fighting for the betterment of Black people is NOT racist, but KEEP IN MIND, that you’re not hateful either. Hate derives from being hurt and raped for so many years, that the only expressions of emotion that are left is hate. Yet, these are not words of hate for white people. These words are to remind you that celebrating the advancement of Black people is a worthy cause, and can even be done creatively, lyrically, and intellectually.

As a people, we should begin to use MUSIC as one of our mediums to stir INSPIRATION and INFORMATION throughout our communities. Using the money that we do have, and the leaders we do have, LET US create our own interactive mediums (websites, IPTV channels, etc) that will create a greater good for us as a people, instead of merely being consumers to swell the pockets of an ethnicity of people who have no intentions of helping us, but only have intentions of using us as PAWNS and puppets, and prostitutes, to gain more access to cash and power.

So instead of pumping out music, and posting songs that merely serve to entertain and fill our minds with FLUFF, each of us should commit to writing, performing, marketing, and buying music that serves to both INFORM AND INSPIRE its listeners to do more and better, and aim HIGHER!

These goals are higher than anything than you can likely imagine. This is more than merely going to college. This is more than getting your Doctorate. This is more than being a committed mother or father to your children, or even marrying one person and staying married throughout life. Those are starting points. The objective is to make collective advancements that will increase our abilities to achieve as a PEOPLE!

Be vigilant. Open your eyes. Read more, plan accordingly, and then and most importantly, BEGIN TO ACCOMPLISH more. Use your abilities. Create a network. Do more for the advancement of your people. Don’t just be satisfied with getting rich, and dieing trying.

What will you do to decrease the number of AIDS victims in the Black community this year?
What will you do to increase the number of philanthropic and visionary Black millionaires in your community this year?
Even this year, What will you do to become more informed on how to advance, and how will you prepare others for advancement as you climb higher?

Get rich! Yes. But die trying to help all other Black people to get rich too! Commit yourself to these purposes b/c if you don’t, no one else will.

OKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK ummmmm bow wow and omarion…didnt need to do that madness…that beat is not attractive! Lovin the MARY J…im still stuck on JUST FINE THO!!! And The Dream..the voice….is umm……hella annoying at times lol but thats a kool song…..

  16. KDL

  17. MO

But someone obviously heard it…. which is likely his intention. To catch the attention of those looking for fun, to also find information. Ironically, That’s the power music has.

He can discuss whatever he wants. He’ll likely continue until Angel bans him. Of course, he hasn’t done anything wrong. So, just read it, and move on.

  18. Ra-Ra

where do you guys hear prince in this Nikki song? Besides the fact that Prince has a song called Darling Nikki, there’s no similarity,

  19. Ra-Ra

Scream is the only one I like. I like Timbaland’s album.

  20. Brittney

“Face Off” is wack…i downloaded it…good thing i didn’t waste money on it…Dream is straight fire

  21. Kiera08

i like bow and omarions new cd face off…i think that they are misunderstood and judged on the negaitives instead of the positives….they could be another 2 young black men in jail but their not…but besides that i think the album is good and they really steped their game up

  22. ddai

why are u so negative about omarion and bow wow album give them their chances!!
this thing just getteing on my nerves!!

  23. Ieesha

To be honest I do not like Omarion nor Bow Wow. Omarion is more because of his music and his outspoken distaste to darker-toned fmales just because of their complxions when his mother is darker than himself and he’s dark chocolate-type of brown. And Bow Wow because of his attitude, cockiness, and his inhumane ability to diss almost every other entertainer and diss his ex-girlfriend hard while being interviewed on radio and act like a sweet little punk on TV. But I must say I like some of the songs on the album. Like “Hey Baby (Jump Off)”, “He Ain’t Gotta Know” and “Bachelor Pad”. Someone was right when they said “they really stepped their game up”. But I got tired of listening to Bow Wow constantly talk about sex with groupies. I really wished they had done songs about even more mature topics. Even “Listen” and “Can’t Get Tired Of Me” are mature. Overall I would give that album 3 stars out of 5 stars. I thought the album was great compared to past work. They still need to go harder if they want raspect they feel they deserve. Did anyone else watch “Road To Platinum” last night. That guy was dogging them hard, but Bow Wow deserves a piece of his own medicine. That way he can learn to respect his entertaining/musical peers. Did anyone else catch him slightly dissing Jay-Z???

  24. BOWWOWLUVR010
