I love her voice but on this song……it doesnt quite work. It sounds odd….. a bit out of place. Her label could have done a lil something more financially to make a better quality video though.

Love Chrisette! She has no business w/ def jam. Unfortunately, she ha to deal w/ them. Her voice is like a diamond but her music is somewha out of synch with the music. I cannot pinpoint it. Maybe her music is is not up to par for her beautiul voice. For example, when she did thattrack with Nas. That sound was a mess. Now this track was better, not really feeling the song. I feel sorry for Chrisette, becusr se does not get enough credit.
Ya’ll have heard of Jay Z’s motto for years now: the key to a woman’s success in music is making the men want to **** you and the women want to be you. And, he’s applied it to everyone from Foxy Brown, to Tierra Marie, to Rihanna, to Amil, to Beyonce… I think that’s as far as his concept of female talent goes…that’s the game plan, for real.
And, Chrisette is a pretty girl, but she doesn’t exude the sort of sexiness that sells…she’s too smart or something…it will never be base and bestial… So, he’s probably honestly got no idea how to market her. And, he’s probably convinced himself that giving her little to no promotion is as loud a statement as a full fledged campaign would be…it’s saying, perhaps he thinks, that she doesn’t need the hype and capitalist underpinnings…

i love it!!! chrisette michele’s album is one of the most underated album of this year. im sure that next year will be better for her(grammy nominated, a spot on the tv show girlfriends). 08 will be a great year for her. the video is very cute. she put her diva on in this video. i definitly have my thumbs up for her.

I don’t think that Jay is sleeping on her, I think that the audience is sleeping on her. She is not the scantily clad, oversexed, dancing diva that most female soul singers are, so she does not appeal to the highest consumers of music (9-18 years old). I believe that she is enjoying her success right now and the people that is interested in her different sound.

I am loving this video. I gotta say, when they are walking on beat with the chorus, that was nice. I still hope she releases “Golden” it would be nice to have a wedding type of song out there, and the lyrics are truly golden. I hope this Grammy nod, and hopefully win, puts her WAY out there. Very underrated.

Of course being on a hook is a form of promotion, in the sense that it gets you out there BUT that’s a given…it’s sort of base, really… The point is, when you’re about to drop an entire solo project, you NEED the label to magnify you…And , promotion doesn’t have to be about building an image, it can be merely letting people know you’re coming. I don’t know why it’s even up for debate, Jay-Z has been criticized in the media for not concerning himself with the promotion of other artists. And, the day promotion isn’t a big deal, every major American company will save the tens of millions of dollars they spend each year doing just that…lol And, we’ll never have to see another basketball player drinking Coke or Sprite or eating Big Mac’s. Wooow…no promotion…marketing obsolete…wow…there’s a new notion…take note, Capitalism…no more innuendo and subliminal messages…somebody’s cracked the code!
I love this song…well I actually love every song on her album cause I play it all the time. I agree with both #11 and #24…I do think for one she didn’t get enough marketing and also people wanna hear a lot of the garbage thats out because all they care about is shakin their butts and dressing like the stars…its sad how a lot of music has lost its meaning and every song on this woman’s album has deep words to it….I really wanna see a video for golden and work it out…I need to see her live….I missed when she was on tour with music…but really I wanna see her do every song off her album live.

The gurl can Sing. Unfortunately, the songs don’t appeal to me. Not that that’s demeaning to her talent. I just feel like she could make songs that have a different feel to them. It’s just a bit bleh to me..She’s fly yes. And one thing: she needs to stop with the jazz faces, it’s not a good look, this is not a Madonna video and she isn’t exactly a size 2 knowmsayin. Still love her though, I’m rooting for her.

Jay Z and Def Jam do not support her as they should. She should have had four singles with videos out by now and she should have been nominated for Best New Artist. They should have taken the approach Clive Davis did with Alicia Keys. If they had, she’d have racked up Grammy nods as Alicia did when she debuted as a new artist.

I completely agree. People complain about promotion for artists but if something isn’t hot, it isn’t hot! If you LOVE the hell outta LL’s last album, why didn’t you run out and SHOW it? Golden is the truth. I love her entire album, and it is one of the first albums that I appreciate since Lauryn. Do not get me wrong, I LOVE MARY, FAITH, HEATHER, even BEYONCE. But I just have a problem with album with 12 songs and only 4 of them are rockable. I miss the days when we got like 19 songs and all of them rocked. Chrisette got it, I do not need to push skip. I feel that if Beyonce and Alicia can have all those grammys with mediocre albums)some good, some not), there is no reason for Mary, Faith, etc not to have even more…They have classic albums, no skipping, we all know all of the music! But I forgot, that was when WE just listened to their music, rocking OUR urban steelo, now its a fad and they look for what looks like them and sounds like us, i.e. JOSS STONE, FERGIE, that AMY chick…ohh and TIMBERFAKE too…I miss real soul music, I truly miss Lauryn and I pray that the next generations of Lauryn’s Whitney’s Mary’s, Beyonce’s are not stifled by the changes in the music industry.

i love her music and most importantly the message that this song sends. There are so many chicks crying over triflin men, but in this song she is saying “im’a be ok”. I love what she does in the video is what most chicks do when they are feeling kind of down….go SHOPPING! It’s the cure for the common triflin man or whomever pissed you off that day. I can definitely relate to her and all her music.

chrisette michele IS getting promotion…why you think even after 6 or 7 months AFTER her album release she’s still pushing out singles? why you think her video prior to this is still getting spins on VH1? def jam BEEN pushing her ever since “lost ones”…but there’s only so much you can do…
the problem is the listening audience that she’s has isn’t a large one…this EXACTLY the samething that happened to jill scott…it took almost a full YEAR before jill’s breakout hit, “a long walk”, catapulted her to stardom…hell robin thicke as well..his album was out a full year before he finally broke out…people are just now catching on to chrisette michele
