Alice Smith may not be new to some CL visitors but nevertheless she deserves a spotlight. The NYC-based singer has been making waves since late ’06 when she released her debut album , For Lovers, Dreamers & Me. Rolling Stone listed her as one of the ’10 Artists to Watch in 2006′ and just last month she was honored with a Grammy nomination for ‘Best Urban/Alternative Performance’.
Her music is often described as a Soul/Rock/Pop blend but Alice has an array of musical influences including: Go-Go, Country, Classic Rock, R&B, Blues, Jazz and Gospel music. In the early 2000s, while she was wrapping up her studies at Fordham University, she sang with Greg Tate’s improv band, Moomtez, that drew upon a broad range of influences and was a part of the Black Rock Coalition.

The song is the sh!t. Sounds like a mid 70′s jazz r&b infused ensemble. Roberta Flack delivery on an Elton John composition. Great song!!

Ok, I just listened to the entire song and she can really blow!!! I mean, you feel the intensity in her singing and words. Whoever she is in love with she is passionate about how happy he makes her and pleasing this person to the point that they never have a reason to go any where else. And the end is so hot! the crescendo to the finale’ blew me away! She really made me feel what she was feeling for that man. It is so rare that you find a song with a deep message and true vocal prowess and feeling now a days. She is a dynamic artist. Great choice Angel!

I totally agree. It sounds like “Bohemian Rhapsody” meets “Benny & the Jets” with a sprinkling of some random, old school Broadway tune. Her voice is slightly akin to Chrisette’s, though. Never heard of this gal before today but I love this song. I’ve had it on repeat for awhile now. Gotta hear more of her stuff.

Watch out Alica Keys….yeah right never not in this lifetime wasn’t in my right mind…However her voice and music seem comparable but never will she be A.Keys…she is the epitome of everything…But this Alice Smith chick is very gorgeous as well and her voice is very soothing also. Music is comparable too but nope not A.Keys and not saying she is trying to be but she is very comparable to her. Its like what Maxwell is to John Legend…What Teddy Pendergrass is to Jaheim..What Michael is to Usher…Jordan is to Kobe..she is comparable and I enjoyed what I listened to keep it up Alice Smith.

I have loved Alice Smith since 2006! Thanks Concreteloop for putting the spotlight on uber talented yet not mainstream artists, because as much as people complain about music today there’s so much GREATNESS out there. But sadly, most of it is NOT on the radio or TV.
Alice Smith has LEGENDARY potential with that voice!

I LOVE LOVE Alice Smith, I got her CD a few months back after stumbling upon it on Amazon, love her style. Perosnally I liked the songs “Gary Song”, “Woodstock” and “Fake Is The New Real”. This is the kind of talent that should be more recognized, people like Joy Denalane, Emily King, Kevin Michael, Ledisi and Chrisette Michele have massive talent but not much support.
