♫ J*Davey – Slooow
Meet J*Davey. The Los Angeles based duo has been doing it for a long time, making their mark as underground superstars, featured in several publications. For years, they have generated a huge buzz. I have always been a fan of theirs, so I decided to feature them with the new track “Slooow.” I love J*Davey because they transcend genres and their music is what I like to call “raceless music.” Everyone can relate to their sound, their melodies and their lyrics.
J*Davey definitely needs to be on your radar in ’08. Make sure you check them out and show some love!

SO happy to finally see them on here. Theres no better time to Showcase them now that they are signed to Warner and whatnot. I have been keeping up with them forever. Saw them live twice and they blow me away. Love love love J*Davey!
I have never heard of them but I do like the song, the sound and the group.
puhhhhllleeease don’t sleep on them, J*DAVEY IS THE TRUTH YALL!!!!!!!!!!! Glad to see L.A. actually bringing Good music again!!!!!
REP FOR L.A., not all of us are acting crazy and wildn’ like paris and idiot lindsay
I’ve been a J*DaVeYbaby since I heard “No More” a couple years ago. I went to their first NYC show at the Canal Room and it was crazy… I mean the energy was sick and the crowd was so diverse. Me and my peeps met the girl, Jack Davey, before the show and she’s really nice. I talked to Brook after the show and he’s cool peoples too. I’m glad they’ve been getting shine because it’s obvious from their live show that they love what they do and they’re daring to be different (something that seems lost in the industry today).
For those of y’all feeling them you should check out HEAVy (http://www.myspace.com/whoisheavy), another guy-girl duo that people seem to compare J*DaVeY to. They’re very new wave and “funk-punk” now, but they still kept some of their soulful, acid jazz style that they had on earlier songs.
Here’s footage of a rehearsal:

LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!! would have posted a different song but i like most of their music (except dirty love) their best songs are
Mr. Mister
Just Because
Dollar or More
This One
Slut Daddy
Relax
Next ya’ll should do a spotlight on After The Smoke or Joi (even though shes been around for a minute)
i heart me some damn J*Davey. Check out a song by them called No More. Cool mellow shit
J*Davey is incredible…especially live. they have a daringly fresh sound and a lot to say. you all should peep this post from Miss Jack Davey’s blog, about her the music industry. it’s extremely on point:
http://reinventingjackdav...pen-letter-to-record.html
She sounds almost exactly like Sy Smith…well, yeah, EXACTLY. Check “The Syberspace Social”, it’s mellow all the way through like this. May these cats other tracks sound different, but this one sounds just like that chick Sy. But I like this grrove though, I chill right to this type of stuff.
#68 I was just looking at Jack’s website and saw CL’s post! I’m surprised they’d sign with a major label, but if they do they must have a great deal in place.
Get this fake Pharell beat making Kelis swagger jacking garbage the f&ck outta here !
Never heard of them, but I like their sound.
Really, ya’ll are kinda late. Why argue about it? It doesn’t mean we don’t love ya’ll. J*Davey is and has been the shayat.
yes! teach the babies! i was gonna come in here and start handin out tardy slips, but im just happy that people are finally payin attention. kudos!
J’DaVeY is apart of the change in music that i have been waiting for. Jack Davy’s raspy, lyrical, rhythmic singing would be eccentric to someone who isn’t open minded to music. And Brook D’leau’s electronic, syncopated, drum programming would be misenterpreted to a person saturated by the sounds of Timbaland or Doctor Dre. Their music (to me) however, is a wonderful and much needed piece of soul. What i admire most about this duo is that they don’t conform to the mold. They create it themselves! Why should it be that we must be as pretty as Beyonce’ and sing as good as Stevie for people to think positive about us? Until we start accepting people for who they are and not for what we want them to be, we’ll never open our eyes. But i believe in this music, and hope their music goes very far.
this group is amazingggg
i love when you post things about underground artists..&& wish you would do a lot more. I like finding new music from different people
yea i listened to their other stuff and i don’t really care for it. they’re talented but i just wasn’t feeling it. i liked “no more” though. i loved the line about how the guy had her crawling up the walls, i was like yep sing it. and i completely agree with that vid on her blog. substance means nothing anymore and that’s sad but thank god for the internet. i’ve stopped listening to the radio completely since 2005/2006 and i’m so glad i did that. i stopped watching award ceremonies as well b/c they’re ALL bs. except for maybe the academy awards b/c they tend to actually care about talent but mtv awards, bet awards, etc. are absolute trash and are only good for looking at ppl’s fashion. magazine lists like ppl’s best dressed or most beautiful are also trash b/c they change with ppl’s popularity. that makes no damn sense
This is different it’s kind of catchy. Your choice of words as “raceless” were interesting Brian. I can see them fitting into a specific genre, but I get your point they cannot be compaired to any other artist out there right now so they should be fine.
P.S.
It’s great that you post a well rounded amount of Indie artists and don’t only focus on prominent artists that already have plenty of exosure. I know where to come when I get my label really started.
Well this song is certainly different. It reminds me of a Prince and the New Generation type song. Its funky, mixed with punk, and electrica. I actually am glad to hear some of these old sounds coming back onto the music scene. Everyone knows that the 80′s was the best musical era of all times anyway. I like it, can’t wait to hear more! Thanks B, you always bring great music, great choices!
If I didn’t see the picture I would think this was Brittney Spears! Not feeling it at all. -20
Yeah, ya’ll are really late. But, better late than never. I’m glad to see someone putting J*Davey out there. I
Brain Im kinda pissed that you exposed them but im happy that you did cause music is weak right now. The only Probably though is i wish you had put other songs. I downloaded their Lost Episode EP and They have Great songs Such as Just Beacause Feat. Phonte and Even Red Light where Miss Jack Davey Raps over J. Dilla’s Beat. R.I.P. Dilla.
I Think you should have showed that they can Rap and Sing.
But either way nice post. I love this song.
Absolutely co sign wit # 13
that’s what i’m talkin about…i’m only 20 and that’s the type of thing i enjoy…i’ve never been into the “Hyphy” thing…but i still have a year to go.
Lovin the hell out of them…thanks Brian…this is new to me. I just came from their myspace and put this song on my page. Everything from them is mad FiYAH HA!!!!
yeah` they r very popular on interracialromancing.com many people discuss about them…it seems that they got quite a large num. of fans
Idk, not really feelin it.
Here comes BRIAN always bringing up RACE!
MuSiC KnOwS NO CoLOR!!!
I
I adore these guys. I did an instrumental to this track from scratch…if anybody wants it, goto: myspace.com/beatboXXproductions
Man i hope warner bros don’t fugg them over… usually when underground artists get love on a major, the label execs get too close to the art and fugg it all up… (read: dwele, raheem devaughn)
J*Davey is the SHHHHHHH! Slooooow is definitely one of their more abstract, weirder tracks but HiSun is the shit and Take My Time on the 4Hero “Play with the Changes” is a major Banger. I love J*Davey and their music. Beauty and the Lost EP are gems and I’ll venture to say that this group is an acquired taste. Not everyone will like them but for those who do, ya’ll need to check out Georgia Anne Muldrow, Estelle, Vikter Duplaix, V, Gaelle, and numerous others…
the chick singing gotta unique voice. idk they are alrite, might need to listen to them sum more
I love J*Davey…what more is there to say?! An awesome band amidst a bunch of uninteresting music.
it’s all about topsy turvy & dollar or more!!!!!!!!
annnd dancehall.
that was the first song i heard by them
that made me fall in lvoe!!!!!!

I’m not really feeling them. They are not that next ish for me. After listening to a few of their songs, I started to get annoyed. Repetitive. It is cool that they are doing something different for Black people cause its about time we step out of the same ol’. But me buying their music, nah.
they did a great job on kardinal offishall’s cd “not 4 sale” song called “digital motown” thought it was just a girl, but it goos to see faces to the name.
