ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: WELCOME TO HOLLYWEERD

Thursday, January 24, 2008

hollyweerd.jpg

♫ Hollyweerd - Have You Ever Made Love to a Weerdo?

The newest splash on to the MySpace hipster scene is Hollyweerd with their funk-jazz-soul-hip-hop fusion hit, “Weerdo.” Pictured from left to right, The Love Crusader, Tuki, The Dreamer and Staggo Lee, make up the fearsome foursome that music columnist and critics have called “Beatles-esque.” Regardless of whether or not you agree, you can’t deny the feel-goodness of “Weerdo,” with its pulsing baseline and warm saxophone interlude.

Performing to sold-out crowds and not even being able to keep promo CD’s in their position anymore, Hollyweerd is most definitely a band that you need to be on the look-out for in ‘08. The roles have switched. You used to laugh because they were different - now they’re laughing, ’cause you’re all the same.

Make sure you check out Hollyweerd on MySpace and let them know CL sent you! Also, be on the look out for more music and updates about their project.

Why does Brian only promote Atlanta artists? Spread out a bit more man. I’m sticking to Angel’s artist spotlight’s atleast she is switches it up.

These fools sound like a broke-down Outkast.

#4, I’m from atlanta - so when I see artist that I like perform, I post about them because I have seen them live and know what they can do.

don’t worry though! we will be posting about other artists soon, because we’re in the process of setting something up. it should be interesting. :)

I like it. And yes they do make me a little reminiscent of Stankonia, but its better than Soulja Boy and that blasted T-Pain mess.

Its hard trying to be an individual and market to the urban audience. But I support these “WEERDO”S”

10.

Thursday, January 24, 2008 /

THANK YOU BRIAN for this one. Been following these guys for a lil minute. Their sound is innovative and they dont really sound like outkast. They maybe reminiscient of them but not the same exact sound. But who isnt in the industry. KOOL KEITH- KANYE WEST/ BEYONCE-DIANA ROSS/ AMY WINEHOUSE-JANIS JOPLIN/ T PAIN-TEDDY RILEY/ CHRIS BROWN- MICHAEL JACKSON/ I COULD GO ON FOR DAYS. everybody is a copy cat. MACY GRAY-NINA SIMONE

This sounds a lot like Organized Noise. It’s sounds like something Sleepy would make. I’d have to hear more than this to be sold, because this sounds a bit gimmicky.

39.

C MOVEMENT

Thursday, January 24, 2008 /

I have to say, I am feeling this track…Brain you are correct once you see a performance it gives you a totally different out look about the song.

This single does not require no performance for me to see the direction these young men are headed, however I would like to see the performance because I like good music.

Support these raising star while the other fall…this goup has the potential to stay in the sky

41.

gg boo

Thursday, January 24, 2008 /

To me listening to the first few minutes sounded Outkast-y, but i’m sure they have other songs with more of their own flava.

The second guy, Tuki looks like a cross betweem Malcolm X and Q-Tip.

42.

yup ....you right

Thursday, January 24, 2008 /

uummm…I wouldn’t buy it, but its cool. but dudes are definitely biting Andre 3000 style, and not even Andre 3000 curent style like Outkast Atliens album.I mean i get that they are trying to be creative, but usually that means coming with somethin original and innovative and just becuz you switch up a few words with spaceship (whip) and wierdo (playa or thug) and talk/sing in a lazy flow and add a few space age soundz dosen’t mean this is different or creative. And what is up with the picture of these dude, they like some old washed up dudes who didn’t make it years previous and decide to group up. i am sure they would probably be good LIVE group like this usually are. the song just o…k

43.

CherishTheDaze

Thursday, January 24, 2008 /

Sounds like Outkast but bout time Brian a song that is actually good. He always says “I can definetely appreciate….” UGH…enough–not EVERYONE is good!

46.

Connected

Thursday, January 24, 2008 /

This shit is HOTNESS! Since they’re from ATL, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re connected to Outkast, but they’re dope in their own right. Breath of fresh air if you ask me, and there’s DEFINITELY room for new energy in the biz right now. Hollyweerd needs to head straight to Los Angeles ASAP! I’ll be at the show with the rest of the artistic, fashion savvy, creative peeps when you come!

I’m sorry but I can’t deal w/ this type of music. It’s too…I dunno…there’s something extra weird…and not in a good way!

Altho, I do like that so many artists are trying to different, trying to break the stereotypical mold of what music is ’suppose’ to represent. But this is just…wow…I’m like speechless!

Wow ! Mixed this track ????? Love the reverb on the guitar at the beginning, love the compression on the vocals, love the panning and placement of the instruments in the stereo spectrum. Love the reverb and compression on the Sax, love the punchy kick.
Love the spacy effects on the vocal at the beginning of the track and I love the fact that the track is not overly squashed. Nice song too, lil “Outkast like” but good…

88.

89.

Cami J

Thursday, January 24, 2008 /

I’ve been watching da Dreamer and artist like him try and come up in the Atlanta scene.

This music is it.

You don’t see too many young cats listening to smooth music as much as we listen to snap songs here in the A. But the whole WEERDO MOVEMENT provides an alternative that still grasp attention, atleast my attention.

plus… i play they saxophone so i can appreicate a saxophone solo…

This music is it.

99.

Negrolibre

Thursday, January 24, 2008 /

Just like anywhere, in Atlanta there’s a sound, rhythm, dialect, slang, cadence, all of that. Just because the vibe is similar to Outkast don’t mean cats are biting. Usually, it goes back to sharing a foundation in artist like Kilo, Organized Noise, and yes OutKast. When you’re setting up from the same building blocks and history - things will sound a certain way on the surface. Don’t confuse the foundation with the inspiration tho. I dig this, I’m gonna be cruising all around A-Town to this.

Hehe… They are cute, just like Cartoon. Recently, quite a few celebrities were said to appear on the hot singles’ club interracialromancing.com. OMG!!! They are indeed so
rich that they feel boring sometimes to need new things?

I had to listen to this twice. I like the jazziness behind it and it is different. The Rhymes were all right… but a good first effort.

Brian…proofreading is for real writers…try it some time!

“Performing to sold-out crowds and not even being able to keep promo CD’s in their position anymore”
CD’s in their position?! Riiight.

“Hollyweerd is most definitely a band that you need to be on the look-out for in ‘08.”

Hollyweerd…a band?! Staggo plays the sax. Okay. That does not make them a band. Be for real!

Well I love this song. To those of you that say they are Outkast reminiscent….duh because Stankonia is there second home and Andre 3000 is a huge influence on them. They do not sound like them, you have to hear other songs. Like my favorite “Summer Breeze” ….Lupe Fiasco fell in love with thsi song and had them open up for him once in Atlanta. So haters continue to do you……HOLLYWEERD is doing big things.

Maybe Im a little biased because im friends with one of them and Im from Atlanta.

This is straight ring tone music. They sound like left over outkast…

What exactly makes these guys weirdo’s? The fact that they wear tight jeans and shop at urban outfitters? pshhh

The whole spaceship intergalactical shit is played….Outkast and NERD are the only ones who can still do that.

The world’s ears need to hear music with substance, these fellas don’t make the cut.

Ehhh. Music is going to hell. I yawned throughout the track.

There is nothing fresh or innoative about the song. Spaceships and weirdos?
We’ve all heard this before, if not from the legendary Outkast then from N.E.R.D.

Tight Jeans and Dunks don’t equal weirdos….

atl has a knack for making ring tone songs, and this is definately another one.

but hey…thats just my opinion.
