I am writing to express my disappointment that these honorees accepted an award from BET. That network has done more to set Black people back than any other in recent memory. I stopped watching it years ago when they shifted their programming from shows like “Teen Focus” to “Hot Ghetto Mess”. They have categorically waged war against Black women and girls by airing some of the most degrading programs since the beginning of the 20th century - yes the 20th century! Anyone who has a child or cares about the relationship between Black men and women should think about how watching so many denigrating imagery affects us! Some of these people are supposedly known for their platform supporting positive images of women of color, or are against abuse and violence, or education. I find it hard to understand why they could not have simply declined. Just like the African slave trade, there were white people ready and willing to exploit us, but they were greatly aided by the other Africans willing to sell their own kind out.

Ummm 24 YES it is that serious. Viacom owns BET/MTV/VH1. I could lmup them all together but the “B” was for Black and for a long time that was all we had. It was waaay better when the white controlled conglomerates ignored it and it was a start-up. I’m tired of seeing gyrating naked Black women, hearing b**ch and all that garbage and having the people who are MAKING the MONEY from it say in effect that’s it’s their business. It’s a free country certainly and I will protest, write letters and make my voice heard. Enough is Enough! When our people had enough they did something about it. Some people tried to stop it or didn’t understand why or were afraid of retaliation. If there was BALANCE I could change the channel for a few hours knowing something mentally challenging or thought-provoking would be on soon. But noooo…it’s pretty much 100% garbage 100% of the time. There is not enough variety. And for Bob Johnson to publicly attack Barack Obama was the ultimate insult. Hillary Clinton thinks he’s the man to speak to us about who we should vote for? Would she be sitting in a white church with Hugh Hefner attacking John Edwards? This also shows how little she thinks of Black women.
