Even though Foxy may be behind bars, and trying to get her sentence lessened because of her hearing troubles, it’s not stopping her from releasing her latest album Brooklyn’s Don Diva, which was supposed to drop on February 19th. It’s been a long time coming too. This album has been through plenty of changes and so has Foxy. Hopefully this release will help her get her legal troubles together and she’ll straight out her act.

Foxy was to release two other albums (Ill Nana 2: The Fever and Black Rose via Roc-A-Fella) as follow-ups to 2001′s successful and acclaimed Broken Silence. I’m glad that there’s actually a solid release date though. The single is “When the Lights Go Out” and Foxy fans have been urging other fans to request the song for radio. I haven’t heard much of it on any stations here, but hopefully she is getting some more spins.

I’m a fan of foxy. I don’t like the singles selected because they are kind of light…they aren’t representative of her usual work. I thought that her first album was the best (Ill Nana), I wasn’t too fond of her second album and really liked Broken Silence. Nevertheless, I bought every one, and keep a CD of every one in my car. But her flow is one of the best in the industry, male or female. I will buy her album because I’m a fan and I want to support. I wish someone who could actually choose and lay tracks would step in and work with her.
R&B and Hip Hop is wak, there are not a lot of talented artist right now. What happened to the fun in Hip Hop, now everybody’s a gangsta, and wanna kill someone. I grew up with that ish, I defintely don’t wanna listen to it. It was cool when Eazy E came out, It was cool on the Chronic, It was cool with Biggie and Pac, and Jay Z. They all had a story to tell, but now all these ignit folk is treatin the music industry like the drug game.
Please stop buying this ish so it will die, and we can get some talented people back out.
@40 I think you are absolutely right! What gets played on the radio from her CDs is not representative of her best work. They used to do Jay Z the same way. I hated his music and thought he was a “fluff” rapper…until my husband and I got married and he brought his extensive Jay Z CD collection. When I finally got to hear the songs that weren’t played on the radio, I became a fan and haven’t missed one of his albums yet.
I also think people just generally hate Foxy and so they hate her music. She is cocky but if we are honest, the rap/hip hop industry was built on cocky MC’s. You have to brag, you have to be cocky, you have to be confident. Even the “conscious” rappers like Talib Kweli and Mos Def do their share of Swaggering–its just the culture.
Women who brag or are cocky–get labeled as b9tches.
Men who do brag are not held to that standard. Coincidentally, this translates into other career areas (outside of rap) as well so it would serve women well to examine this ideas and challenge them.
