Guess who was spotted shopping with his girlfriend at Fred Segal in Park City, Utah on Monday? Hint: This isn’t the first time these two were spotted out and about.
It’s John Legend and his girlfriend model Christy Teigen. The couple shopped on Main Street and walked fast to avoid the paparazzi.
John recently defended his choice of women:
John Legend just can’t win. Even though he’s earned critical acclaim and a gaggle of Grammys — five, to be exact — the singer says he’s more often being judged on his penchant for models.
It’s not helping that his latest girlfriend is Christine Teigen, a Thai-Norwegian catwalker from Seattle whom he met when casting the video for his song “Stereo.”
“People are automatically condescending,” Legend tells us. “They expect her to be dumb and say, ‘Oh you’re just dating a dumb girl because she’s hot.’ But people judge you either way. Ok, first of all I am a living witness that love is blind but either our people are STILL brainwashed, or is it simply a coincidence that black men of a certain stature seem to have bought into mainstream America’s value of beauty? Black women are the first to start screaming “ah they look so cute together” and “they would have pretty babies”, while black men are leaving black women in droves. Or dating Black women only if they have caucasian features.
But on the other hand, maybe it’s the Black Women’s fault. Nowadays, ANY BLACK MAN who isn’t a thug or present himself as one, is almost immediately labeled “suspect”. This whole gay thing has gotten black women paranoid. Or if he doesn’t disrespect women or has no interest in the Hip Hop culture, he is labeled “corny”. Black women have got to open their minds when it comes to Black men.
Lastly, black women it’s important to know that at the end of the day, a man wants a woman. Martin Luther King said it was important that women keep their femininity. I’m not talkin’ a woman who is prissy and afraid to break a nail, but a woman who is a lady and presents herself and acts like a lady. Each person is different but a black man doesn’t want nor need a “homey” or a “ball-buster”. Let a man be a man and ladies be ladies.

Exactly. I am concerned for individuals who stereotypes people and assume things just because of a race or gender. Its so unjust. If I had a dime for every time some thought I am attracted to a ” thug” because I am Black woman, LOL.
Now I was always told by my elders that people judge or assume things based on how they look at themselves or what they use to be and presume that everyone else is like them. I could be wrong…but its just a thought.

Poster #38 and #42, let me try it this way. Why are so many Black Women today so quick to label a Black man ‘suspect’? And in many cases it is for what I see as the most minute innocent things. The standards by which a Black man today is labeled ‘suspect’ have changed dramatically. That standard has changed, even in the past 10 years.
The “evidence” required to question a black man’s sexuality today is insane. And though it is not full-proof, in too many cases, the most obvious way to avoid the accusation is if the black man acts like or is a thug, which gives way to the belief that most black women require thug type characteristics in a black man.
Considering we are a minority in this country, Black men of a certain stature are going away from black women at an incredible pace IMO, and there are a lot of reasons why, one being many black women not being open enough to accept a variety of types of black men.
Again, just from my experience and the experience of others:
1. A ball-buster is a turn off to men.
2. A nasty attitude is a turn off to men.
3. At the end of the day, a man wants a women, not a ‘homey’.
4. Men are attracted to femininity (I don’t mean prissiness), so women should strive to carry themselves as ladies.
5. Let men be men.
These are reasons or issues often heard from some black men with regard to black women and why so many of them are going outside of the black community. And with all due respect and no offense, I think too many black women have lost site of those things on that list.
And before anyone call me a racist, I am not, it’s just the fact that the numbers of Indian, Asian, Hispanic, White, etc., MEN with black women on their arms, are no where near that of Black Men with Indian, Asian, White, etc., WOMEN on their arms. My concern has nothing to do with my thinking Black people are superior to everyone else or that other races are not good enough for Black men. It’s the fact that I look at professional sports teams for example and wonder how many of the white men on those teams have black wives. Then I wonder how many of the BLACK players have non-black wives. Are the numbers the same or similar? I think we all know the answer to that, but my thing is WHY is it so lop-sided? The same with Hollywood. I have no problem with other races of women in black videos. But as a whole, are black women used as much in white, hispanic, asian videos? If not, why not? And why don’t our people care about the disparity?
I’m all for Love being blind but the disparities can’t be ignored and I’ve wondered if Black women themselves have been a factor in why those disparities exist.
*note* And please no one bring up Robert DeNiro or Bill Mahyer. I know some may interpret my words as saying NO MEN of other races date/marry black women. That is not my point at all.
