aww man it brings me back too the place and time i can remember 2001 graduated from high school just finish enjoying my birthday a few weeks prior . Just sitting in my bedroom and the news came on saying aaliyah passed. I thought it was another rumor so i change the channel and turned on the radio it was so true. I cried man did i cry. It was like a family member passing it still hurts today. Because i watched her grow from her very first video . such a beautiful ,beautiful soul R.I.P BABY GIRL I miss you so I cant even look at videos and your movies the same anymore it just hurts too watch. I remember the night Aaliyah died as well. I was a freshman in college. So very sad to hear. Aaliyah was really beginning to come into her own and it was so amazing to see. She really could have done alot in these seven years. Time really flies…She was very original and beautiful inside and out. Even though she has the copy cats (i.e., Ciara…) they will never be her. R.I.P Aaliyah, truly an angel and missed beyond belief.

Wow #206…our stories are very similar…it’s crazy! I also graduated from high school in 2001 and on that faithful morning I was in very high spirits. My birthday had just recently passed (on August 16th) and I was preparing to move to campus for my freshman year in college. The night before, around 3 am my brother came in my room while I was sleeping to tell me that Aaliyah passed away. I was still half asleep so I dismissed his comments and went back to sleep. I woke up at 8 am in a panic because I thought I dreamt the story of Aaliyah’s death . The first thing I did was go to his room and ask him if it was true. He said it was, but I still did not believe him. Soon after I ran downstairs to our computer and I went to mtv.com. Unfortunately, all of my fears were confirmed. Talk about pain…I cried so hard you would’ve thought someone close in my family passed. It was to the point where my parents had to console me. And they vaguely knew who she was at the time.
Sorry for the long commentary, but I say all that to reiterate that there will never be another artist in our generation that will evoke the such feelings with their fans as Aaliyah has done. She was warm, graceful, and beautiful. We all felt connected to her and that is rare for anyone. Aaliyah we miss you and we love you xoxo. May your soul rest in peace!
