I know we predominantly post on black celebs, but Heath Ledger is one of my favorite actors so I know I’m not the only one SHOCKED by his death.
According to the New York City Police Department, Ledger was found dead in his apartment in Manhattan on Tuesday, January 22. [CHECK OHNOTHEYDIDNT FOR FULL UPDATES]
Our condolences to his family and especially his young daughter.
So sad, I heard about this earlier but am still in shock. I’ve been checking every site possible thinking it’s a joke. His role as the Joker was very demanding. I heard that he was taking two types of pills (prescription and over the counter.) I don’t know if he was trying to kill himself, but I know he was having trouble sleeping. His rep just released a statement saying that it was “accidentally”
Rest in Peace ~ Heath. Such a talented young man, who left this earth too soon. My prayers go out to Michelle, his baby girl, and his family and friends.

I heard this on the news today that he had passed away. He was a very good actor, I liked him in 10 Things I Hate About You. It’s just sad that his little girl is never going to have a relationship with her dad and I hope that his family and friends tell Matilda who her dad was .
This needs to be awake up call for all the people in show business young,old and especially Amy Winehouse.

Sad that these talents (Amy, Britney, Lindsey and now Heath) give these drugs so much damn power in their lives. He broke my heart in Brokeback Mountain. Despite your feelings on the subject matter of the film , his performance was so on point and to think all that talent wasted and for what….?
He was a excellent actor. He choose roles that were not always the mainstream. I followed his career from the beginning and I was looking forward to his next role. He will truely be missed. May he be safe in the makers arms now!!

He’s family said, “he also had pneumonia” so maybe that and the prescription sleeping pills were tooo much. Either way it’s sad that a little girl will have to grow up without her father, who from pictures looked like a devoted dad. =(

I loved Heath. When I heard he died, I felt the same as when I heard about Aaliyah, totally shock. I dont thnk he committed suicide, I think it was an honest mistake. I feel for his family, he’s still a human being.

I am truely saddened by this. Heath was one of the most talented /sexiest actors of our time. His knack for acting and he will be missed greatly.

Pneumonia is no joke, people die from it every day. It is sad people jumped to conclusions that he killed himself though.

That Ambien is no joke. I know first hand. I took one; and these were prescribed by my doctor, but the dosage was too low, so I doubled up. I woke up the next morning disoriented and couldn’t control my functions. I fell down the stairs and damn near killed myself. I can’t imagine mixing those with OTC sleeping pills as well. No wonder he overdosed! Poor baby!

I saw it on the news, which I rarely watch, andd they got to the entertainment part and I saw in the corner of the screen, a pic of Heath Ledger…but since I heard them say ‘drug overdose’ I thought they were talking about Brad Renfro and he just looked like Heath Ledger…that is until they said “Heath Ledger was found dead…” and I was like…. NO!
This is still so unreal to me. I can’t even like…grasp this right now. It’s been a few hrs since I found out, but like, it still HAS NOT sunk in! This is so bad!

i was saddened also. but dude was a user and abuser. so sad but true. im sure they will find other stuff in his system but it was no accident and he was def depressed.
Well, hearing about him on TV it seemed like he didnt want to be in the limelight, so The Batman movie making him a certified movie star isn’t something that he wanted. But he clearly signed on to do it because he thought it was an interesting part. I Know Jack Nicholson is biting his words about it.
Heath was such a talent and a cutie. This is a real loss, and I’m so sorry to hear it. I remember how adorable he was in “10 Things I Hate About You.” My prayers are with his family and friends. It has to be devastating losing someone so suddenly and publicly.

My heart goes out to his family and friends. Apparently he was sick for quite some time, he had pneumonia – he wasn’t suicidal. He couldn’t sleep due to his illness, that’s why the Dr. prescribed him sleeping pills. If only the media could stopped tarnishing his image like that. Let the man rest in peace.

Im beyond shocked.A great and talented up and coming actor.I feel so badly for his young daughter and family.Cant believe this.
I was shocked too when I heard about it…my roommate told me and I couldn’t believe it… At first I was convinced it was either an overdose because he was abusing drugs and alcohol OR suicide but now, reading what you’ve all said about Ambien, I am definitely reconsidering. My Mom’s friend gave her Ambien…and it’s weird because I can’t remember if she gave them to me or if she took them but I do remember whoever took them, they didn’t work… So, I can imagine combining maybe two with a three or four Benadryl if you’re completely insomniac.
Who knows? He did seem rather dark and fatalistic. But, I guess you’d need to be to think acting a meaningful enough escape.
I just heard on the radio that he was highly depressed. Whatever you do becomes your reality. I guess it was his wrong reality.

It’s unfortunate that this happen to yet another rising star, cause I’m looking forward to the movie “Batman” where he plays the “Joker” a darker version of him and from what I saw he’s going to be off the chain.

I cannot imagine how his family or Michelle must feel! (Poor Matilda…how they gonna tell the baby daddy’s not comming back??? I get teary eyed thinking about it)…..I saw him in Monster’s Ball and The Patriot. I remember being sad when he died in the Patriot. I thought to myself “at least it isnt in real life”. It wasn’t until I heard the news of his death that I realized how handsome he was…..how horrible….I hope he finally got rid of his demons and is at peace mentally and spiritually….

Why Heath? Notice that when actors or musicians play a dark role or sing or rap about death it happens to them: Brandon Lee: The Crow, Aaliyah: Queen of the Damned, Heath Ledger: the psychotic Joker, Tupac/Biggie: constantly rapping about death and them dying themselves, or some one killing them. River Phoenix: Dark Blood the movie he never finished due to his death. In the movie he plays a widower/hermit who lives as a on a nuclear testing site, waiting for the end of the world. In some way they become immersed in the persona or the intensity of the subject matter over takes them. Many usually turn to drugs and alcohol to ease the pressure they put on themselves as artist, and/or to ease the pressure of the media whirl wind. May Heath’s daughter and family be blessed with kindness and consideration at this time.
Hopefully his death wasn’t intentional, but if he was dealing with depression than, that’s different. I really liked him as an actor and was so excited to see him as the Joker… I love “10 things I Hate About You” that is so sad, he has a 2 year old daughter… Here he is a celebrity, money, fame but he’s depressed. Us ordinary people get depressed about the things he has (money, status, etc….), he was depressed about the things we have but take for granted love and you children. It’s funny how stuff goes full circle. May he rest in peace.
RIP Heath, I am truly sad he was one of my fav. actors too. I first saw him in the Patriot with Mel Gibson and I was in love with him right then and there. My condolences go out to him and his family.

Im so sad about his passing. He was a great actor and a very handsome young man. At cnn.com it says that his autopsy was inconclusive, which means they havent found a cause of death. I feel bad for that baby girl and michelle…………..
Timothy Stansbury’s death was tragic. Patrick Dorismond’s death was tragic. Amadou Diallo’s death was tragic. The systematic kidnapping of black and hispanic children across the U.S. is tragic. The suicide of some pill-popping, coke snorting actor is not tragic. It’s predictable. When you play a demonic role, you court demons into your psyche and spirit. Many of thee actors are outright Satan worshippers, i.e. Johnnie Depp and Jack Nicholson, so they know how to handle those forces. Heath Ledger obviously did not.

#226, Are you serious? Every death in its own way is tragic, because no one deserves to die. To reduce a promising actor down to a pill-popping, coked-out junkie is so wrong, on so many levels.
So Anthony Hopkins plays a cannibalistic serial killer, so he must be one on the side?
Johnny Depp is another actor, like Heath who chooses his roles carefully and opts to stay out of the lime light.
