Since the magazine is based in Hong Kong, you might not see it at your local bookstore. I’m just sayin.

The only thing I don’t like is her hair and its not that its bad but Michael’s wrap on the cover of Ebony looked much better. His hair looked like its bouncy and healthy. Let’s be real, marriage was created for average working people. People who need insurance coverage for themselves and their children and also the tax benefits of being married. When you are filthy rich you don’t need that. People talk about Oprah and Stedman but I agree if you have a committment with someone and you are financially secure, marriage may not be the best option. Look at these celebrity divorces –it’s a big train wreck waiting to happen.

I love Janet. She is my fashion icon because her look is always cutting edge and polished. She looks like a wealthy and successful star without the Christmas tree effect of tons of gold and flashing designer labels. Heaven knows I would give just about anything to have her body and beauty. I just wish that she would make better choices with her photo shoots and aim higher with more classy shots and not be azzed out on a sex sells pilgrimage everytime. To #34, marriage existed long before the bible. So using a Judeo-christian view on the institution doesn’t always work for everybody. You don’t have to be a “believer” to be married and you don’t have to be married to believe. Janet’s not saying she doesn’t believe in the spiritual connection one gets from marriage, but the act in it’s western form has long been a joke. I mean, marriage has been reduced to game shows and reality tv. You don’t need that piece of paper to be joined by the Most High.

Okay, her book…it’s more autobiographical now? I know she gained weight right after plans for it were publicized, but she’s lost the weight…so why is it still some sellout pseudo autobiography? I mean, I can respect her struggles with disordered eating but it’s as if they’re thinking that her gaining weight again blew the top off it all and now we know it’s crash dieting… Well, guess what? DUH! We know and we always have…the woman went from chubby to impeccably ripped in a matter of months. She’s up and down. We get it. Do the book as planned…every woman crash diets and fluctuates in weight. We never expected some holistic approach or long term philosophy!.

I respect what you are saying about crash dieting, but I don’t believe that is how she lost the weight. Janet was following the eating plan and workout plan that thousands of female “fitness competitors” follow. Interestingly, her build is much like theirs as well. For instance go look at http://www.oxygenmag.com (not plugging the mag just giving you an example of a female fitness magazine), and you can see that cutting out fat and carbs, eating chicken veggies, oatmeal, sweetpotatoes (plain) etc. and combining weights with cardio is the general workout and eating plan of female fitness competitors. 60 pounds in 4 months is what, 15 pounds a month? That is not excessive at all. And like Janet, when those women aren’t actively competing, they get a little heavier but look a lot heavier (muscle is more dense and tightly packed than fat) so they look “fluffy” like Janet did in the sweatpants pic.

I don’t understand why people are trying to push marriage on someone who has been married twice and divorced twice, both those marriages were made before God. Hell I think it’s better when someone respects the bounds of marriage when they know they aren’t ready for or right for it.

Exactly…thanks for explaining that. Some people just can lose weight easily if they are disciplined and go on a eating regimen. People with muscular structures can lose easily. Of course the lazy ass people question this cause they have no clue of how to skip their fat ass pass a buffet or slide the damn chair back from the table, then they want to accuse someone else of bad habits or cheating cause of course, they are incapable of any type of discipline or self control.

Thanks for the info, but I’m going to have to disagree…15lbs in a month IS excessive… And, some might argue that even if she were PERIODICALLY following some female fitness competitor’s regimen, it would still be “crash dieting”… (And, honestly, lots of them crash diet…living off protein shakes and dried meats in preparation for competitions).
….Most of the crash diets that have become so famous over recent years are from hospital menus…plans for people preparing for different sorts of invasive surgeries.

So, yeah…I’ve got to disagree…but as I said, lots of us suffer from disordered eating, lots of us crash diet…And, that’s why I’d prefer the book as it was planned before, without what I see as this sappy mea culpa confessional thing…because with such a preface, the actual diet/health tips are sure to be conservative, in hopes that readers won’t even allow themselves to think it a “crash diet.”

I think L.A. Reid is doing a fantastic job with this album promotion. The Hong Kong album cover is perfect. Instead of doing the usual U.S. magazine-cover blitz, they are sneaking her out little by little. Not over-hyping this release is a very smart move. Leaking the single- way to go. They’re creating almost an underground buzz around this album. I’m glad she left Virgin. They suck. Hopefully this comeback will be as big as Mariah’s. Gotta give L.A. his props, the man knows his shit.

I agree with Post #38 Charden. It amazes me how people think that they can live in sin and not be accountable to GOD. Anyone who is a believer in GOD and is fully sane know that they will give an accounting for their actions if they don’t repent. First, I am saying this respectfully (not to fight). My mother is an evangelist, I grew up pentecostal so I understand where you are coming from, but it is really not fair or arguably “Christian” to impose Christian values on people who may not be Christians. They either come to it or they don’t.

Also, I saw similar comments about Lauryn Hill’s position that she was married under Gods eyes and not under the law—who are we to say that is not valid? Adam and Eve did not have a marriage certificate from city hall when they were married under God.

Finally, I actually agree with Janet but I hope she gives Jermaine a chance. I was married when I was 18 to a nutcase. I Divorced him and thought I would never marry again because it is a contract between you, the person AND the government. If the government (i.e. the Court) says you can’t have a divorce…guess what, you CANT HAVE ONE. That is enough to scare anyone away from marriage.

That being said, I did eventually remarry and he is wonderful and nothing like my first husband. So I would have missed out on this if I had kept licking my wounds.

So I personally hope she gives Jermaine a chance, but not because I think God says she has to do that. I try not to tell other people what God told THEM to do….God can talk to them just like God can talk to me and it would be arrogant of me to believe that I had the only direct line to God.

I think it’s hyperbolic, extending my comments to hate and above all self-hate. I say that because you see them as “hate” and I can do nothing to mitigate/refute that, I’m sure. The fact is they would come closer to praise as it was about, in the beginning, wanting Janet’s weight loss/workout regimen. Janet Jackson is the cover model for the January ‘08 issue of Hong Kong’s Prestige Magazine. The singer is making a comeback in ‘08 and let’s just say I have a feeling it’s going to be a good one. Check out the photos and read some snippets from the interview after the cut.

Will you do a big world tour when your album is released?
Yeah. I was actually supposed to tour with the last album, but we didn’t because I was actually in Atlanta and Island asked me if I would consider not going on tour, start the new album and then go on tour.

You’re working on a new book that chronicles your struggle with weight?
It’s not necessarily about yo-yo dieting, it’s coming from my soul. It has been tough at times – even when I was younger – so it talks about those times and what triggered me to come out of it. Also it gives little nutrition tips in the back on how I did it. It’s not strictly about nutrition . . . it talks about the struggle that I had.

We’re not married. I call him my boyfriend. Jermaine calls me his wife, I’ve heard him say that as well . . . But not yet. I don’t know if that will ever happen. Maybe, I really don’t know. Now people think you’ve got to grow up and get married and have a family, you don’t have to do that if you don’t want that. Just because everyone else does that doesn’t mean you have to.

Thanks for the info, but I’m going to have to disagree…15lbs in a month IS excessive… And, some might argue that even if she were PERIODICALLY following some female fitness competitor’s regimen, it would still be “crash dieting”… (And, honestly, lots of them crash diet…living off protein shakes and dried meats in preparation for competitions).
….Most of the crash diets that have become so famous over recent years are from hospital menus…plans for people preparing for different sorts of invasive surgeries.

So, yeah…I’ve got to disagree…but as I said, lots of us suffer from disordered eating, lots of us crash diet…And, that’s why I’d prefer the book as it was planned before, without what I see as this sappy mea culpa confessional thing…because with such a preface, the actual diet/health tips are sure to be conservative, in hopes that readers won’t even allow themselves to think it a “crash diet.”

I think L.A. Reid is doing a fantastic job with this album promotion. The Hong Kong album cover is perfect. Instead of doing the usual U.S. magazine-cover blitz, they are sneaking her out little by little. Not over-hyping this release is a very smart move. Leaking the single- way to go. They’re creating almost an underground buzz around this album. I’m glad she left Virgin. They suck. Hopefully this comeback will be as big as Mariah’s. Gotta give L.A. his props, the man knows his shit.

I agree with Post #38 Charden. It amazes me how people think that they can live in sin and not be accountable to GOD. Anyone who is a believer in GOD and is fully sane know that they will give an accounting for their actions if they don’t repent. We all know sex outside of marriage is wrong but people are past all moral sense and continue to do it anyway. Sadly some have reaped some bitter consequences as a result of their actions. All I know is that if I can look as together at Janet 10 years from now when I’m her age WHEWIE! I’ll walk around singing Kanye’s “Can’t Tell Me NOTHIN!” all day long.

When you are 41 and have the body of a 19 year old you are SUPPOSED TO FLAUNT IT. Heck, Janet shamed me back into the gym, has me up at 5 am everyday again!

I love black people–I really really love black people…I just wish we could let go of the hate and negativity.

I can find something that I like and admire about anybody and especially about other black women and men. If I CANT then I dig deep for it even if its something like “well…she is really–ummmm focused…”

You know, in certain ancient civilizations, particularly in central africa, speaking negatively of a person in an envious way was seen as witchcraft and was not acceptable….people accused of witchcraft could be put to death. People would be dropping dead left and right in today’s time with all the negativity we spew about each other.

I used to be really annoyed by Beyonce because I felt she was too hyped up by the media. But when I started to look for something positive, I found that her hustle is CRAZY and she should be applauded for that.

Janet is in AMAZING shape, beautiful and talented and she does this in a country where black women aren’t supposed to be any of those things least of all black women,over 40, who aren’t halle berry types. She should be applauded.

First, I am saying this respectfully (not to fight). My mother is an evangelist, I grew up pentecostal so I understand where you are coming from, but it is really not fair or arguably “Christian” to impose Christian values on people who may not be Christians. They either come to it or they don’t.

Also, I saw similar comments about Lauryn Hill’s position that she was married under Gods eyes and not under the law—who are we to say that is not valid? Adam and Eve did not have a marriage certificate from city hall when they were married under God.

Finally, I actually agree with Janet but I hope she gives Jermaine a chance. I was married when I was 18 to a nutcase. I Divorced him and thought I would never marry again because it is a contract between you, the person AND the government. If the government (i.e. the Court) says you can’t have a divorce…guess what, you CANT HAVE ONE. That is enough to scare anyone away from marriage.

That being said, I did eventually remarry and he is wonderful and nothing like my first husband. So I would have missed out on this if I had kept licking my wounds.

So I personally hope she gives Jermaine a chance, but not because I think God says she has to do that. I try not to tell other people what God told THEM to do….God can talk to them just like God can talk to me and it would be arrogant of me to believe that I had the only direct line to God.

I think it’s hyperbolic, extending my comments to hate and above all self-hate. I say that because you see them as “hate” and I can do nothing to mitigate/refute that, I’m sure. The fact is they would come closer to praise as it was about, in the beginning, wanting Janet’s weight loss/workout regimen. I can understand being a fan but what I cannot understand is this sort of selective casting of the veil, this muddying of everything that seems to put some artist or celebrity in an unfavorable light. It is just really my sincere and heartfelt “mission” to remind us that we have enough BS in the world from racism to fighting poverty to just trying to survive and we need to understand and support one another more–on a large scale. I’ve said the same thing about Beyonce posts, Mary J posts, Foxy Brown posts, etc. I’m a black woman so I probably focus more on the issue as it relates to black women.

I’m not one of those people who come at others sideways–as I stated in another post–I argue for a living (it gets tiresome) and so although I carry a “big stick”, I prefer not to use it when there is no reason to do so. I don’t come to concreteloop to fight–I come because the social interaction pleases me.

Think about it…with all the BS all of you face each day…don’t you think that reading or speaking negativity about things and people that you reallllllllly don’t even care about on a deep level, is one more emotional assault that your psyche could do without? Stress kills. *I’m smiling at you….

Life is too short to spend it immersed in negativity.

I know there is a place for constructive criticism–but I wonder sometimes whether people generally use that as an excuse to just be hateful and unhappy. (PEOPLE..not YOU or anyone else in particular.)

There’s something to be said for a man and a woman standing before GOD, clergy, family and friends declaring their love, devotion and commitment to each other (in good times and bad) for a lifetime. They are not only publicly declaring their love and commitment to each other, and thereby forsaking all others, but they are publicly holding themselves accountable to their public delclarations. Their clergy, family and friends are their to witness this delclaration and to help them uphold thier vows and support them in thier lifelong journey together. Remember it takes a village. The spiritual connections that are within a marriage should be evident prior to. Marriage itself does not create such connections, only the Holy Spirit does. Some people get married because they are either “living in sin” and feel dirty about it and want to make it official or they they get carried away by the rush of romance at the beginning of a relationship and call it love and base a marriage off that. Either way, those marriages are ill conceived and do not have the spiritual underpinnings of a blessed marriage that constantly and consistently asks the couple to reach deeper into the LORD and to lean not to their own understanding, but to HIS. Marriage is tough stuff. Not for the faint hearted or flighty. If it doesn’t work, one or more of the parties (man, woman, GOD) doesn’t want it to. Marriages don’t fail when you keep the faith (and the commitments).
