I am positive “So Excited” appeared on MTV. Many do not know that because MTV does not show videos when most people are awake.

I agree with # 33. I didn’t realize that MTV never aired her video in question after the Superbowl incident either. I also agree that delirious, deranged, and demented Britney Spears still got airtime after flashing her bald pussycat on several occasions also. She was also the opening act on the MTV Video Music Awards as we all know.
I was a HUGE Janet fan in the 80’s, 90’s, and early 00’s. But frankly I think that Janet is too old for the type of genre music that she sings today. She is also too old for the overly choreographed cheerleading style dance moves that she still tries to do. I mean how much popping and locking and ticking and flicking is she gonna do…is she still gonna be doing this at 50…cuz she will soon be pushing 50!
Also she IS a bonafide SUPERSTAR…but let’s be honest…Janet cannot sing. Her voice is so weak, that on several of her songs, I haven’t a clue what she is saying. When Janet was in her teens and early 20’s singing Let’s Wait a While, Control, The Song with Blackstreet, Pleasure Principle, Twenty Foreplay, The Song with Busta Rhymes etc…SHE WAS THA BOMB!!!

She had albums flop with MTV exposure. “American Life” was a true flop and I remember MTV did a special on her that whole day it came out. And Hung Up was the only true hit from the Confessions on a Dance Floor album. All of the true artist seem to have their slumps (madonna, Janet, and Mariah(She also had 2 flops in a row)), but they are true artist and will get back to the top. Yeah Charmbraclet and Glitter were back to back flops. Yes Glitter was a soundtrack but it was also her album cause it was all Mariah. The sad part was the album was good in my view, just that the movie was so bad people never gave the album a chance, but charmbracelet was not good at all, but I loved Glitter. This interview is good!! I’m glad she’s talking about the album and what was going on over at Virgin. I still believe that Janet knew she wasn’t going to renew her contract and that after Damita Jo was handled badly she thought to herself let me keep my best shit, end the contract, find a new home, and give my fans what they want. She’s a business woman, she made her first million at like 7 years old, glad she stays away from all the endorsement deals, I feel it cheapens your brand if you do too much even though the money is good. Movies are a way better endorsement deal for her because she gives a solid performance maybe not oscar worthy but your not thinking why her lol. The same Beyonce who, after the Super Bowl incident, canned a duet she’d done with Janet, only to phone her later and ask to sample the track on the final Destiny’s Child album. Is it? Is it the same Beyonce? I don’t think so because she was on the other end of the call when Janet HUNG UP IN HER FACE so I’m sure she knows Janet’s not that into her.

I am happy MTV is going to show Janet’s video, because it so creative and hot. I agree they should have never given her so much flack for that Superbowl incident. However, I do have to defend them on the “Britney” tip. The superbowl halftime show was produced by MTV, so Janet’s booby debacle made them look bad. Britney’s cooch-flashing had nothing to do with MTV. Besides she was not on live TV, she was just getting out of a car. That’s MTV’s reasoning behind disowning Janet, while still allowing Brit to perform. And Brit did earn them a 23 percent hike in ratings, so their line of logic proved itself in dividends. Now, i do think Janet’s incident was accidental and Britney’s was alot more careless, but that facts have to be recognized.

Until they die, Madonna and Janet are both the Queens of Pop. Only true pioneers can claim such a title. I have to say I am really surprised at some of the disrepectful comments about J on here. To be honest, everyone should just appreciate that the Black community has a pop icon that has still maintained to be around for 20+ years. I think that this issue has something to do with determining who sets the norm. In America, White culture sets the norm for everything. Regardless if Janet’s incident was intentional or not, she appears to be sluttish or nasty because she stepped out of the conventional roles for a Black woman (being second-tier, that is).

Justin, on the other hand, came off as someone who made a HORRIBLE choice. I am going to respectfully disagree with you here. Janet was “punished” because America and its legacy of slavery cannot deal with the idea of a black woman’s sexuality in any way other than “hooker/Jezebel” . It is a very old story that goes back as far as slavery. For America, a black woman’s sexuality has to be either 1. owned and controlled by the ‘master’” or 2. suppressed as something dirty.

Thus every mainstream “white” movie can show the majority of corner-hookers as black women, but the same white media will demonize the very idea of a black woman being in charge of her own sexuality. So if you are not willing to be their “nappy-headed ho” then you are only permitted to be mammy (ummm.check The View and every other white movie/show) or Sapphire (sassy, flippant mouthed black woman who constantly berates black men). In the stereotype ridden mind of white America, there is no room for a black woman who is all-woman, who has full ownership of her sexuality, and makes her own decisions about what to do with that sexuality. We are expected to either be “a Ho” or a mammy with no sexuality at all. (I’m not even going to list the black female celebrities who fall into these categories.

The message that everyone missed is that one black nipple shut down all of America…that’s powerful but for all the wrong reasons. Brittany and Madonna can tongue-kiss on national TV and its just fine.

I saw “So Excited” on MTV–I don’t think a lot of people got up and saw the video when it aired in the morning and most people weren’t interested in the video to put it on TRL. To say that MTV didn’t air the video is flat-out wrong in my opinion.
