Looks like Beyonce is sticking to her album-then-film formula. Blackvoices reported that the singer will portray famed singer Etta James in the upcoming film Cadillac Records. The soul singer is mostly known for her classic record “At Last”.
The film explores Chicago in the 1950s and Leonard Chess, founder of the South Side Chicago blues label Chess Records. The piece charts the rise and fall of legendary artists who were part of the label including James, Muddy Waters, Chess, Little Walter, Howlin’ Wolf and Elvis Presley. Jeffrey Wright, Columbus Short, and Cedric The Entertainer have also been signed on.
Filming will take place in New Jersey and Mississippi…
Tyler Perry has already begun to start up his next film project and word is, Jennifer Hudson may star in it. Tyler Perry’s The Family That Preys Together focuses on two very different families that become intimately involved in love and business.
This will be Perry’s sixth film for Lionsgate following the release of Meet The Browns. Sanaa Lathan, Alfre Woodard and Rockmond Dunbar have already been confirmed as part of the cast…
Spike Lee is currently working on a new film that stars Derek Luke, Michael Ealy, Laz Alfonso, and Omar Benson Miller. Miracle At St. Anna is set in Italy during the 1940s and tells the story of four black American soldiers who get trapped in a Tuscan village during WWII after one of them risks his life to save an Italian boy.
It is based the acclaimed novel of the same name written by James McBride. Miracle At St. Anna is scheduled to hit theaters in Fall of this year.
Etta James being played by Beyonce? That trivializes Etta’s contributions to music and possibly the entire movie. I think Bey was a very poor choice.

Etta’s voice is so not Beyonce’s style. Hollywood needs to start casting newcomers or quit with the black films about black singers from way back when. I think it limits the type of films that we appear in.

I am sorry but this must be said, Beyonce cannot act. I read about this movie, and once they said Beyonce’s name by hopes went down. I don’t think I am a hater I speak the truth. Beyonce always comes out with stuff when everyone is on vacation. She never comes out when Alicia Keys, or Janet, or Mary J. Blige or anybody else who is great comes out. I agree halle Berry would have been a better choice. I hardly doubt Beyonce will ever win an Oscar, unless they become like the Grammys and hand out awards to everybody. I mean when music was music in the early 90′s do you really think Rihanna would ever have a nomination. I mean the great Barry White only won 2 grammys and Rihanna has like 5 nominations. I really wish the entertainment industry gets better, and only allow true talent to perform.

People said the same things about Diana Ross when she started acting, and like most people, the more you work on a craft, the better you become. And while there were and are still people who didn’t like her acting, Diana Ross killed, Lady Sings the Blues and Mahogany. People said the same thing then… she didn’t deserve to do Billie Holiday, didn’t sound like her…. same shit, different era.
Bottom line, Beyonce is a Entertainer. She is no more going to turn a movie role or opportunity than any one of you would turn down a raise or promotion.

In every movie that she’s had a starring role in, she was a singer! ‘The Fighting Temptation,’ she was a gospel singer, ‘Carmen :Hip Hop Opera,’ she was a singer, a role that is basically the same as above, ‘Austin Powers,’ she was a singer during the disco era. This girls choice of roles are all the same. I sincerly doubt she’ll have longevity.
