Tyler Perry brings us another film this year starring Angela Bassett and himself. Meet The Browns, another film based off one of his stage plays, follows a single mother from Chicago (Bassett) that struggles to make ends meet. After learning about her father’s passing, she travels to Georgia to meet and bond with a family she never knew she had.

Awwwww…seems like it’s gonna be good.
i know i will go see this and the movie theatre will be super packed with church folks…
man this looks promising . cant wait
I never saw the play, but the movie most likely will be good. His last movie “Why Did I Get Married” was REALLY good…
Tyler keeping the black actors working… His touch has been golden, this will probably be just as successful. Definitely good for a laugh.
This look like a good movie. I’m glad to see Angela Bassett on the screen again fahreal. Love the momma from Soul Food.
Excited to see Angela! I know she is going to do great! The movie looks like it will be a good story. I dont too much care for the t.v show but hopefully it will be kind of different
Here we go again lol
I like when ‘The Soup’ did a parody of a Tyler Perry movie…they were like
Tyler Perry starring in Tyler Perry’s, “Tyler Perry”. Written and directed by Tyler Perry
LMAO
Can’t wait!
Here it is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJoleJnSHeg
Thank God for youtube!!!
Should be good!!
This should be interesting changing a comical play to a drama/comedy lol we’ll see how this goes because some of Tyler Perry movies aren’t that good but his plays are awesome
i feel like Tyler Perry is the only person making movies for black people right now…. and though his movies are successful….
is his (monopoly) necessarily a good thing?…
Terry just love him some GA!And I’m going to see this because Angela Bassett is far the best actress in Black Hollywood IMO.She don’t get the props I think she deserve.@JLewis I think I saw that LOL,Joey is a nut.
Tyler Perry don’t play. They let him get one foot in the door and he invited himself all the way in. I really liked Why did I get married. Happy to see a black man makin money and employing other black actors/actresses.
I will see any movie where Jenifer Lewis acts a fool lol
Oh gosh I said Terry, excuse me Tyler.
Another Bullshit MOVIE!
I can’t to see this movie and I’m glad that Tyler Perry is putting all of these talented black actors/actresses in his movies. I just want him to put every black person in hollywood young, old and new in all of his movies and furture projects.
# 10, you are funny.
I love angela b!! I will support this movie
I love when we all can chorale behind something of positivity. This is what Black America needs to do more often. #13 asked if his monopoly was a good thing, and I have to say perhaps it is. For some reason, when there is only one person representing our views we can all unify behind that person, that is what Tyler Perry has become for the film industry. He is the only one telling our stories, through our people, and making it appeal to the masses. I thank God for figureheads like Tyler Perry. May he be continually blessed.
I love Tyler Perry’s movies – there is ALWAYS a message in them. Can’t wait to see “Meet the Browns.” I’ll be in the theater on opening day, as I have been for every other movie he’s releases.
God, Angela Bassett has got to be an inspiration to all women over 40. She is just adorable. And the play was just hilarious.
yea, ima go see it. but doesnt it seem like all these tyler perry movies seem a little repetitive?
I love tyler perry films…….but his movies all have the same beginning, middle, and end.
CAN’T WAIT!!!
Looks/seems like all the others….next!!
I’m sorry but I love to support black Hollywood but DAMN!!!!!!
How many times is Tyler Perry gonna re-do the same movie, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again?
“Single mother/father struggling and they need help so they go to their family, have a good ol time eating at the dinner table. (Insert church scene)….they go outside and have a barbecue, the lead character meets his/her love interest and they’re also single with relationship issues…(Insert Madea)…THE END”
Can we please get some black movies with some substance? Where are the “Do The Right Thing”s at?
There’s also a new movie coming out called “Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins”…basically the same premise as this movie only slightly different. Please don’t support bullsh#t like this.
ANGELA BASSETT IS A RAGING FORCE OF TALENT. NO ACTRESS IN HOLLYWEIRD, BLACK OR WHITE, CAN MATCH HER, EVEN IN THEIR BEST BLOCKBUSTER. IT ANGERS ME AT HOW UNDERRATED THIS WOMAN IS!
I loves me some Angela and Jennifer! Angela is the greatest actress. I wish she got greater roles cuz girlfriend deserves and OSCAR! Jennifer is a mess and a half and I love her. Brown is too funny! Now I wish Tyler would stop recycling plays and stuff, especially actors cuz that Lance Gross can’t act. I’m sorry but he just can’t. I love Tyler though and I will be supporting this, just not that horrible House of Payne.
Did yall see his play The Marriage Counselor”? Its a must see!
This looks good!!! I’m glad he finally used David and Tamela Mann in a movie. I will go out support!!!!
To #28 why dont u be glad that there is a BLACK MAN in WHITE HOLLYHOOD making BLACK MOVIES b/c white people dont give a fuck about portraying us.
Y so much negativity against a black man doing GOOD? Damn. And where are all of his movies rehashed. Can u please clarify that better b/c so far you havent.
His first movie, Diary of a Mad Black Woman was about a woman who was fooled by her husband and left the relationship to. I thought it was an okay movie, although it was horribly structured and didnt have much of a successful genre identity. But it was Tyler Perry’s first and even he acknowledged the mistakes.
Then came Madea’s family Reunion which was a step up from DMBW, but still weak. yet, its premise was not the same as the movies b4 or after it.
Then Came Why Did I Get Married, which was still awkward in parts, but it was a GOOD ASS MOVIE. I was surprised at how good it was. Tyler even acknowledged he stepped his game up. ANd it was about blk married couples working out their difficult marriages. There was no “family”. How does it compare to his first 2 films?
Now this movie coming up, Meet the Browns. Im expecting good things b/c Tyler Perry has learned a lot about the film industry.
And please, tell me which of his movie are all about a single mother going through a tough time until she reunites with her family. Please, explain.
People are just hating. Even on BET the Crank that 2007 crap special was dissing Tyler Perry’s movies as if they’re all the same. The guest they had up there were unappreciative that a Blk man could make something positive for blacks out of Hollywood.
Wake the f*** up
And another thing, why the hell did this dude have to bring Angela Bassett, one of the greatest black actresses of our time into this mess of a movie? She once had a great untainted resume of films (excluding “Vampire In Brooklyn”) and now Tyler Perry has to screw it up. I hope her check is F-A-T for this movie
Tyler is trying to teach BLACK AMERICA good values. Maybe u oughta learn instead of hating
don’t really like tyra, they threw in madea and i might see it, looks okay, i never really look @ his other stuff like daddy’s girls or why married
@32
Just look at the reviews to all of his movies and you’ll see that they aren’t as great as you’re hyping them up to be. Maybe if black people cultured themselves and watched movies that weren’t just African-American related they would know that Tyler Perry’s shit sandwiches of movies aren’t good.
Have you seen some of the movies that were nominated for Oscars this year? And not just “American Gangster”?
All his movies have the same motive, and I’m glad hes trying to portray blacks in a positive light but it just is making us seem more incoherent as filmmakers than as human beings.
How is telling my opinion “hating,” some people need to remove that word from their vocabulary.
wow~~~ can’t wait to see this play““it’s gonna to be good! many people also discuss it at interracialromancing.com….seems that it has many fans now ^@^
I have nothing against Perry , but htier are many other BETTER black film directors
Spike Lee
Gina Prince Blythewood-Love & Basketball
Kasi Lemmons-Eve’s Bayou & Talk to Me
John Singleton-lately he’s been off, but Boyz in the Hood is a masterpiece and his Oscar nomination was for that film.
Denzel Washington-Antowne Fisher, The Great Debaters
The List goes on & on all of their movies are better than Tyler Perry’s over the top movies.
I can’t hate somebody that keeps Black talent working. Some of these people would have never gotten exposure if not for Tyler.
American Gangster got great reviews, BUT there were too many movies this year that got better reviews. This was a really strong year for movies and their are only 5 spots, but RUBY DEE got an Oscar nomination for her role in American Gangster.
No Country For Old Men
Juno
MIchael Clayton
There Will Be Blood
Atonement
Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Before the Devil Knows your Dead
Into the Wild
All of these movies got better revies than American Gansgter or The Great Debaters.
I’ll watch anything with Angela Bassett, even Strange Days!
Can’t wait to see the movie. I love Angela B.
I like what Tyler perry is doing, and far be it from me to down play a black man making it albeit dressed like a old black woman, but I wonder how long will we be supporting him because he’s black and not becuase he makes good films.
Can some on tell me why the protaganist in all his films is a lightskinned dude comming to save a down trodden “ssskrong” black single mother, I’m not comlaining (represent like it’s 1988 in here ya’ll) but what is that about , even in his plays it was like that.
@Tina
Exactly, I like Tyler Perry and respect him for his work ethic but the dude just hasn’t made a good movie yet. His movies are all plagued with bad editing, bad screenplays, bad directing in general and some of his casting is all off. The only truly good acting role he had for one of the black actors was Tasha Smith who actually made “Why Did I Get Married” bearable.
NOMOSOUL, wouldn’t be giving his movies such praise if he actually saw a movie like “There Will Be Blood” or “No Country For Old Men”…but then again I doubt he would bother because he would consider them boring.
…thank you #32 [nomosoul]…#28 [allleged] is a H.A.M!
This has nothing to do with the subject but look at this shit, It’s HILARIOUS
http://www.youtube.com/wa...;eurl=http://dlisted.com/
Hopefully one day Tyler Perry would be a better filmmaker. Maybe his film The Family that Preys Together will be a better effort. Right now I am looking forward to Gina Prince Blythewood (Director of Love& Basketball) The Secret Life of Bees. I’m also looking forward to Spike Lee’s Miracle at St. Anna and Lee Daniels( Producer of Monsters Ball and Director of Shadowboxer)Push.
No Country for Old Men was the Shit, I liked Juno , but I thought it was a bit overrated.
Haven’t seen There Will Be Blood Yet , but I will.
Sweeney Todd was so Tim Burton and Johnny Depp was good in it.
The Great Debaters was also good and Nate Parker was a standout.
@48
They got screeners of “There Will Be Blood” floating around limewire.
he changed the storyline a lot from the original play, but i’ll still go see this one.
i dunno if it will be as good as why did i get married though..i think that was his best movie
#49 It would take me a long ass time to DL a movie on my computer.lol.
Zodiac was also very good, but you have to be patient with it. The Director of Zodiac David Fincher is one of my favorite Directors. He Directed, The Fight Club & Se7en. This year he is directing Brad Pitt in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button -Taraji P. Henson is in that one.
I also want to see THe Orphanage I heard it was really creepy.
@51
Oh well, try and supporting a movie that actually deserves your money.
It ain’t like I’m hating his hustle but damn if I want him to make the same damn movie again, it just looks like “Diary of a Mad Black Women” only with a rehashed story line. And it pains me to see these movies get so much praise from blacks, Hollywood is indeed fickle when it comes to black actors and actresses and its sickening to see them playing thugs and gangsters all the time but Tyler Perry needs to either stop writing his own movies or just go into producing instead.
Has anyone seen that show “House of Payne” a show he writes, directs and produces? That show is terrible! In picture quality and in dialogue. And it basically is a representation of his earlier movies.
I thought This Christmas was predictable, but I enjoyed it more than Why Did I get Married…and it got better reviews than Why did I get Married.lol.
Angela Basset is one of my favorite actresses and I’m so happy to see her in a new film and a Tyler Perry one at that! The Browns are Perry’s most unique and hilarious characters
People shouldn’t be hating on Tyler, he’s making some nice yet hilarious (and serious) movies and keeping the talented Black actors and actresses in mind. He’s not Spike Lee or John Singleton, but he’s getting there, I mean damn he’s only been getting exposure in the public eye (Like him being on Regis & Kelly/Today Show exposure) for a few years and taking a play to screen isn’t an easy task. I respect the man’s talent and drive to create something that can entertain his audience. If you don’t like the stuff, don’t hate and don’t put down money to see it. I rather see Tyler Perry’s movies than that country shit of “Who’s Your Caddy” and the overplayed street dance/prove to the world how good I am at dancing movies of “How She Move” and “You Got Served”…yuck…
LOL @ #16
#55 How She Moves is getting excellent reviews from the critics, um Tyler Perry’s movies don”t. I appreciate what he’s doing, but it seems like now he should be better. Denzel has only made two movies and both movies are better than Tyler’s.
I dont think anyone that says t.p. movies are overrated and repetitve are haters. Obviously, I feel the same way. Yes, they are good movies. But when is he going to produce something that is Oscar worthy or atleast Golden Globe worthy? I have seen all his films, and I plan on going to see this one. But I would be lying if I said they werent all similar somehow;
1. man/woman actin up
2. man/woman fight the feelings of being in love
3. somebody has some insecurities
ALL of his movies have this and ya know it!
#55 How She Moves has an 88% with critics on Rottentomatoes. That is a better score than some of the Oscar Nominated films.
Tyler Perry’s highest acclaimed movie was STILL rotten with a 57% and that was Why Did I Get Married.
Im sorry Im just not a Tyler perry fan all his movies are pretty much the same. I actually went to see “Why I did I get married” now Im starting a blog “Why did I see this damn movie” I try to support my black actors and actresses but why do every black movie gotta be about a single black women struggle, a disfuntional family, a hood christmas film, is that the only shit we can comprehend. Check out “Lions for Lambs” “Juno”, or “Atonement”
He needs to learn his craft more, maybe he needs to see movies like DO the Right Thing ,No Country For Old Men or there Will Be Blood. Not to copy them , but learn what great filmaking is. That way he can put his creativeness to the use of putting great Black actors/actresses in quality movies. I’m sorry , but his films are just mediocre, that’s just my opinion. Or maybe he shoulod get someone else to write the scripts.
Lions for Lambs got some really bad reviews too.lol.
I think No Country for Old Men is the best movie this year.
