Just as I suspected, there were hold-ups to Jennifer Hudson’s much anticipated debut album. Apparently, 2007 was supposed to be her year, but the label has scrapped the album that she’s previously recorded and Clive Davis has put the J. Records signee back into the studio to trade up. It seems as though the team didn’t think that the material was strong enough and that consumers wouldn’t purchase the project.
Ryan Tedder, front man of Mosley Music Group band OneRepublic, has spoken out about the state of Hudson’s album, considering that he’s been signed on to helm some writing credits now that Clive is taking the album in a new direction.
“They made half an album and ended up scrapping it. Clive — wisely, I think — said, ‘No one’s going to buy this. We’re trying to turn her into Aretha Franklin, and that’s not realistic,’ ” Tedder said. “They scrapped a bunch of songs and started fresh. I heard a Timbaland song that was by far the best song she’s done. I do wish, and I know the label wishes, that this album had come out six months ago. But Clive’s smart. He didn’t want to just put out a crap album just because of the momentum.
I knew it. I just had a feeling about this. We’ll see though. It has been said that Jennifer’s album is be released sometime during the year’s second music quarter. But they may have more work cut out for them than that think. I think Ryan was right when he said that the label wishes the album had come out 6 months ago, because frankly, I’m uninterested.
KELLY ROWLAND UPDATES
The release date for the rerelease Kelly Rowland’s Ms. Kelly album was confirmed on BBC Radio 1 yesterday during their chart countdown. On the reworked album, Kelly has released her first single with Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy, “Daylight.” The set will also contain productions from J.R. Rotem, who is responsible for Sean Kingston’s mega-hit, “Beautiful Girls,” as well as Nate “Danjahandz” Hills, who has produced along side Timbaland and his responsible for Britney’s “Gimme More.”
Kelly, who is promoting her third single in the US is doing wonderfully overseas. “Work” is the current single both here and overseas. As stated in a post earlier today, Kelly has made comments about the flop of her sophomore set, as well as the rerelease.
“The sales weren’t as good as I wanted them to be and to be honest, I did feel sad about that for a little while. I felt that the industry was fickle and for a minute, I felt like I didn’t want to be a part of that any more. I feel that the label should have promoted it more the first time around. But they’re excited now, so that’s all that counts.”
Honestly, I feel bad for Kelly too. I hope that Michelle Williams doesn’t fall victim to the same fate, with her third solo album, which will be a contemporary R&B release. “Stop This Car” is supposedly the first single, but randomly got great feedback.
LIL’ KIM LEAVES ATLANTIC RECORDS

According to BillBoard, rapper Lil’ Kim has left Atlantic Records and intends to release her upcoming as-yet-untitled album independently.
On DJ Kay Slay’s Sirius Satellite Radio show Streetsweeper Radio last week, Kim said that she has no ill feelings toward Atlantic Records. She said she was afraid to release her music independently several years ago but is now more comfortable in her knowledge of the music business to work her project. It’s rumored that the MC will join Capitol Music Group’s independent arm, Imperial Records, however Kim’s management was unavailable for comment.
Lil’ Kim’s upcoming album, which was originally supposed to drop in February, is now set for April or May 2008.
It seems as though a lot of artists have been talking about going the independent these days. I think that route is better suited for artist who are already established and know that they can move numbers, so I think this might do well for Lil’ Kim. I’m excited about her new project, ’cause I’ve been loving all her remixes. We’ll see!
Hmm, I find it funny that Brian is ohh soo interested in Mya’s project that’s NEVER coming on, Brian have been spewing hate on JHud recently, maybe because he is a Beyonce stan? How the hell could a music fan be interested in Danity Kanes & Britney Spears crappy songs, but oh I’m uninterested in Jhuds/WTF? What people aren’t getting about J.Hud is that her style of singing is more along the Whitney, Areatha lines which is too old for the audience of today that their gearing her music towards. Clive knew this and knew it wouldn’t sell. Concrete leaked a single as well as what she had on Ne-Yo’s album – yeah she can sing, but you need more than that today. I think she’ll sell ONLY if she has a BANGER like “I Will Always Love You”, etc. A BIG SONG; otherwise, anything fast or mid-tempo is going to flop because her image isn’t sexy and I DO NOT want to see her dancing with those knocked knee’d legs. I wish her well, but she’s doomed before she can get out there. She’s a more accepted version of Chrisette Michelle who is a wonderful singer, but her style’s too old and people don’t get it.

my prediction before was that the label was going to have a hard time making music for her that would translate on an album and still be marketable. Brian I knew something was up because back in October of last year Jennifer Hudson’s friend on Youtube “Superstar James” put up a video of him and JHud riding in her Hummer and he asked her about the album and she sounded frustrated about the album she said “I’m trying to get this album out, I hope yall will like it, I don’t know” and then when the video spread to a few blogs her friend took it down, because it was plain to see that the album was not going good (this was around the time MTO posted about her album being scrapped.) So I knew it was true.
It is very unrealistic to think that J Hud will be the next Aretha Franklin. That shit just sounds stupid. There will never be another Aretha and I doubt that J Hud even comes close. I’m not waiting for her album and I probably wont buy it either. If I wanted to hear a fat lady scream and yell out songs I’d go to church.

#16, Management is NOT the LABEL. Management is not who Kelly Rowland was referring to in her statement on ‘lack of promotion’. If her LABEL didn’t push her album hard enough for her liking, that has not a got dayum thing to do with her MANAGER pitching her to magazines for covers (which she got) radio stations for interviews (which she gave) TV shows for appearances (which she made) and even lil’ ol’ black blogs like THIS ONE for excliusives and contests (which…hello CL Kelly Ro Lookalike Contest.)
Kelly ain’t mad at her Daddy slash Manager, and she has no reason to be. He did his job, and got that girl PLENTY of exposure when she needed it. Kelly might could be mad at her label, but ultimately? She shouldn’t be upset with nobody but herself for putting out less-than-strong material that people didn’t connect to.
I love her to pieces, but it seems like ya’ll people that stay hollering about how she needs to dump her manager because they don’t play her out like her sister have FINALLY gotten into Kelly’s head and made her talk stupid shyt. She’s NOT as driven and polished and accepted as her sister yet, hence the differences. But its nobody’s fault but hers people weren’t feeling the music. All you have to do is look it up, she keeps her supporters informed!

when i heard Jennifer Hudson was working with the production duo THE UNDERDOGS (Mario,Tyrese, Rueben Studdard, Fantasia,Monica) on material on that scapped album, I knew her material would be mediocre. I have yet to hear any REAL “fire” from her as a recording artist. Sometimes BIG voices don’t always translate into hit CD’s, just ask Jennifer Holiday (the oringinal Effie from Dreamgirls) her solo career didn’t really produce anything exceptional. Neither did Tonya Blount for Sister Act 2.
word to Clive Davis: you need to stop pairing your artist with the medicore production the Underdogs, they are sole reason Ruben Studdard and Tyrese (and others) on your label had horrible album reviews and sales. Drop them like you did Olivia (after you used her top 10 hit Bizzoune to launch your label)

As for myself………I shouldn’t be saying this AT ALL lol, but since you asked……i’m related to a producer (i want name him, but he is a very well known producer in hip hop and r&b) that has worked with Jennifer in his recording studio penning tracks for her c.d., and i had the opportunity of being their! She is nothing short of AMAZING in person….so i know first hand and personally that this girl can sing ANYTHING, and hearing her voice LIVE is like WOW (truely OUT OF THIS WORLD)! When she would sing everyone would sit in awe….mouth to the floor lol. I’m dedicted because i hate when people talk about shyt, and they really don’t know what the hell they’re talking about LOL! It’s all a bunch of garbage…..I just can’t wait for the public to hear her music!

Kelly Rowland’s second CD is the sh*t! The world slept on it, and Kelly has every reason to feel a little dissapointed – it’s a strong album – far better than her first and many other big albums of 2007, but it seems that’s not all you need in the music industry today, which is sad but true!
Hopefully the re-release won’t see them scrap the great songs on the original CD, and she’ll finally get recognition for the great album she made.
Kelly Rowland has a very good voice i think she needs to work with people like clive davis to get her in the front lines. Her album MS. kelly was one of the best albums that came out in 2007 whoever pick out her single should be fired because the song still in love with my ex and better without you are hot song her love always are like bad habit that she wrote herself. she is way a better of a singer then people like rihhana or ciara leytoa luckett, chris brown because the singer standard really has gone down but her voice is very nice and beyonce’ maybe bigger becuase she is manged by her father but she is a nasty bitch and her vocal training maybe but her she cant sing all like that and she would be nothing without jayz and she knows that.
