The beautiful Leona Lewis is setting up shop to release her debut album, Spirit in the United States, after garnering some huge success overseas in the UK. Endorsed by American Idol’s misfit, Simon Cowell, Leona’s debut album is going to hit shores in the spring.
“The first thing I said to Leona was, ‘Look, I don’t care if it takes three years-we will do this album and we’ll do it right,’ ” SyCo head Simon Cowell told Billboard late last year. “She is an artist I can trust.”
J/SyCo Music will release the disc here on April 8 and the first single “Bleeding Love,” is now on iTunes. The new video debuted this week, and it’s directed by the popular director Jessy Terrero.
For its U.S. edition, Spirit will include two new tracks: the Akon-penned “Forgive Me” and “Misses Glass,” written and produced by Madd Scientist and RockCity. Spirit has been an immediate phenomenon in the U.K., where it debuted at No. 1 on the album chart in November. “Bleeding Love” was also a multiple-week chart-topper there.
I actually am digging Miss Lewis. I hope that she can get the same steam over here as she has in the UK.
GNARLS BARKLEY TITLES ALBUM ODD COUPLE
Along with leaking a new single, Gnarls Barkley has revealed that their album will be titled, Odd Couple. Though the album title is extremely appropriate, it is adapted from the 1968 film and ’70′s sitcom of the same title.
The project will release it in April via Downtown/Atlantic. The duo of Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo is still finishing the project, having recently recorded with live musicians in Los Angeles. Fans are really excited to see what Gnarls Barkley is going to be giving up this time around, considering that St. Elsewhere sold 1.345 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Kelly is still keeping herself in the press, making statements and appearances overseas while gearing up for the rerelease of her sophomore solo set, Ms. Kelly. Instead of promoting her own rerelease (which is what she should be doing), she is talking about what former Destiny’s Child bandmates are doing.
“Beyonce is actually recording, she started to record for her new album and Michelle is about to release her new single ‘Stop This Car.’”
I’m proud that Michelle has gotten a little attention with that snippet for “Stop This Car.” I just want to see what the whole songs sounds like. It may be a big deal for her, considering that she has been in the shadows, gearing up to release her first solo contemporary R&B record. Kelly didn’t give too much information about the Beyonce record — it’s been said that Beyonce is recording a dance album, that Timbaland is mostly producing, and then it was later said that her album will be taking a more country direction. We’ll see.
MARIAH CONFIRMS NEW SINGLE
Even though Mariah’s single was supposed to premiere on radio this week, she’s changed it up again. They are really trying to keep this project under wraps. The thing is, she needs to just drop it. I think they are worried.
Def Jam is doing shows. Just drop it and see what people think. The new single that was chosen is apparently titled “Touch My Body.”
Before, the label was toying with choosing “Migrate,” featuring T-Pain, as the single, but that’s not going to happen. Mariah’s new album, titled That Chick is supposed to be dropping in April. I don’t understand what the hold-up is on the project, I guess there’s just trying to perfect whatever it is that she’s got going on with That Chick. I’m just wonder what the material is going to sound like, what the video is going to look like, and how Mariah’s going to top what she did on Mimi.
