Even though LeToya was quoted saying that her album was to be released at the top of ’08, it seems as though she’s pushing the album back, and it will be dropping June 10th, via Virgin Records. This is interesting news, considering that LeToya’s debut solo album, LeToya was released under Capitol Records. That was a quick contract.
In any event, we posted a teaser track, titled “Swagger” and the readers were really digging what LeToya came with. Again, she recruited H-Town comrades Slim Thug, Killa Kyleon of the Boss Hog Outlaws and Bun B. Interestingly enough, “Swagger” has been getting some radio spins, even though it is not the first official single.
The new album, which has a release date, but no formal title, will have production from the talented Bryan-Michael Cox, Rodney Jerkins, Tricky Stewart & the Dream, Walter Milsap, J.R. Rotem (Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls”), Pharrell Williams, and if you read our exclusive interview with Teedra Moses, LeToya is interested in a track from her and Raphael Saadiq. It is also rumored that LeToya is to hit the studio with Timbaland. LeToya has also added hit-writer Adonis to the list of producers on the new project.
DMX IS TO DO GOSPEL & RAP IN ’08
Rapper DMX is planning to release two new albums in 2008 – one hip hop and one gospel. The two LPs, called Walk With Me Now and You’ll Fly With Me Later, will hit stores on the same day. DMX tells MTV:
“I (was) the first n**ga to put out two albums in one year, now I’m gonna hit ‘em again – drop two albums on the same f**kin’ day, yo. A double album will make muthaf**kas mad, because they gotta spend more money – plus it’s already a long (double) album. I’m talking about a hip-hop album and a gospel album.” The religious star – who once considered becoming a minister – promises the gospel album will be completely “without cursing”, adding, “How ’bout that one? No songs about bitches, no songs about robbing, just straight ‘Give God the glory.’”
Interesting. Good for DMX. If you remember, he did just sign a new deal, after being released from his Sony Music deal earlier this year. DMX has signed a deal with the music division of Canadian online gaming company Bodog Entertainment. Bodog Music is a part of the digital entertainment company, Bodog Entertainment International Group. More power to him.
MARIAH CAREY ALBUM NEWS
Mariah fans may be a little disappointed to know that Mariah’s as yet titled project, which was supposed to drop at the top of this year, will not be released until this year’s second music quarter (which means any time after April, pretty much). So it seems as though the whole marketing ploy Jermaine Dupri spoke of, with Janet and Mariah’s albums dropping on the same day, a la Kanye vs. 50 Cent will not be happening.
I’m not surprised — Mariah Carey’s follow-up to the hugely successful Emancipation of Mimi was supposed to be released late ’07, but was pushed back and now is suffering from another change of release date. Could Mimi be a little afraid that this project may fall short of it’s previous hit-laced album? In any event, sources have said that Mariah Carey’s new single is likely a T-Pain collaboration called “Migrate.” Why not, Mariah? If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.
MYA TO LEAVE MOTOWN RECORDS
In a recent interview with StarNewsOnline.com, singer/actress Mya revealed that she will be leaving her label, Motown Records and does not plan on signing with another major label. Here’s what Mya had to say:
SNO: When is your next album coming out?
Mya: It will be some time in 2008.
SNO: Tell me about your new album?
Mya: I don’t like to talk about my album until it’s out on the shelves. I’m not giving up too much information, but all I’ll say is I’ll have a series of albums coming out. The album is already recorded.
SNO: If the album is already recorded, then what’s the hold-up?
Mya: Every record company is in transition right now so when the record company has to wait for income then the artist has to wait. Sometimes an artist might decide they want to part ways when they don’t want to wait.
SNO: Are you planning on leaving your record label?
Mya: Yes. I’ll be leaving Motown Universal some time next year.
SNO: Do you plan on signing with another label?
Mya: I don’t really want to sign to another label. If you end up funding most of your projects, why not distribute your own product and make 100% of your profits?
Mya may be on to something. But hopefully, she can get Liberation released before she leaves the label. It’s been a long time coming. I used to be pretty big fan of Mya – but I just did not like the bulk of material from Liberation. Hopefully, she’s pulling an Amerie, hitting the studio and reworking some tracks on the album and adding some new flavor to release in the US.

Much success to LaToya Luckett. I’m glad she was able to have a singing career after the entire DC collapse! I have her first solo album and it’s good. I happened to be in the same shoe store in Vegas this summer when she was shopping and she was very sweet! I have nothing ill to say about her! Good luck LaToya!

DMX, in my opinion, is no more confused when it comes to the Most High than 99% of the other people. The brother is obviously battling spirits but that is his burden to bear and his demons just happen to be overt. It’s important to monitor the things that we say, but it makes no sense to be curse-free and have no understanding whatsoever of the Lord. When you read the scriptures and do the historical research one can see that the holy days that people kept, in the Old and New Testament, and the way that they worshipped the Lord was totally different than done today by the churches. As a matter of fact, the roots of the holy days celebrated by the churches: Christmas, Easter, etc., and all religions for that matter, can be traced to pagan idolatry.

MYA: one of my fav artists too, because i don’t kno (as neither do many of the people commenting about her and the record company) all i can say is that Motown does do their artists wrong looking on the outside, maybe it’s something much deeper than a financial flaw going on, i would have to get the inside story on them. As for Mya, i’m proud of her. in my opinion, out of all her albums “Liberation” was the best. i think she has grown so much as a singer and songwriter and you can tell that she was all real on that album. i hate it that many people wont give her a chance. but i guess they do that with all artists… once you fall off once (refering to her long break after “Moodring”) people don’t wanna give you another chance. AND to refer to someone’s earlier comment, she does more than sing. she acts, teaches, and raises money for many different organizations such as the breast cancer foundation, dance for kids, and save the music. i think this will be her year and whenever “Liberation” comes out or any album comes out i will support her all the way, she is a true hustla and i admire that. if some of these artists who dont do anything but sit on they ass can sell a record, i kno she can because she’s determined and a hardworker. I’m so excited for LeToya’s album. That is my girl and I’m so glad to know that even after all of the controversy of Destiny’s Child in the early part of the Milleninum, the woman was able to come back strong. Plus, she is blessed and successful all the while keeping a positive and humble attitude. I wish nothing but the best for this lady!
Also, I’m also looking forward to Mariah’s album. The Emancipation of Mimi was an incredible album that I could listen to all the way through and not skip, even though I liked Mariah Carey before, in 2005, I became a Mariah Carey fan. So, I wish her the best as well.

Gospel and DMX just do not go together in my opinion….that being said, I think artists need to acknowledge when they need an image/musical overhaul and change up either their sound and/or image. So best of luck to you DMX, although I kind of miss the where my DOGS ATTTTTTTTT!!!! days!

I have been a fan of Mya since 98 when she came out with It’s All About Me… I think she is an amazing perfomer/dancer but she just has not had any good luck with getting her music distributed properly. She also does many other things besides music inclduing, acting, fashion/designing, teaching dance and volunteering, so she has her hands in several different pots. I think if she just found another label or decides to go the independent route then maybe she will get back to her IT status, circa (1998-2001)because she is that DOPE! Don’t hate people appreciate GOOD TALENT!!!!!
