♫ Estelle feat. Kanye West – American Boy

Here we have new music from the beautiful Estelle. I absolutely love the vibe of this song, and I love the sound of her voice. As we told you last year, The UK sensation is the first artist to be signed to John Legend’s new ‘Homeschool Records’ label. I am very excited about this project, the more I hear from her. She is funky to me. I love this girl’s imagery. “American Boy” is definitely a ‘diggable’ track, it’s from her upcoming album, Shine which has recently been pushed back for May 2008 release.

Visit Estelle on MySpace to hear more tunes and if you love what you’re hearing, pick up her debut album, Shine in May of this year.

  3. I'm_kinda_a_big_deal

    second? I guess?

She reminds me of a new generation L boogie….Shes tight.

    not pretty….but shes tight.

  4. Mperfectlyflawed

I know I have heard this beat b4… where is it from??

  5. Greg_Arious

My friend used to sing back up for her but she got her fired because her voice overpowered Estelle’s. Lol.

  6. Vida

Definitely agree with Big Deal, I was like Yay! Lauren Hill reincarnated, now we can hear what we might have heard had L Boogie not gone crazy!!!

  7. It’s ok and definately different. This song has a nice beat. It has a way of growing on you.

  8. MorganLady

I really like this. Im glad Kanye is back in the studio:-)

  9. Forest

For those that slept on Will.I.Am’s jawn. This beat is used on his album. This is dope, Will’s song is fresher.

  10. blockstar

The beat is from will.i.am’s latest album entitled songs about girls and the tracks name is impatient, and if you ask me it’s way better than estelles attempt even though it was a descent song.

  11. Oh wow. How refreshing! I love it, I love it, I love it. I’ll definitely buy this album when it comes out.

I’d really like to hear more music like this on the radio. Thank god for XM Radio!

  12. Becca the Promo Mami

reminds me of house music (trust me – im from chicago – i know)
she kinda has a janelle monae vibe too

    i like it.

  13. #12: When I heard it, I automatically thought Janelle Monae, too. I’m really feelin’ this.

  14. I can’t wait to listen. She’s cool and anything Kanyeezy touches is hot so I’ve got high expectations.

  15. Ms. Maye

It’s very unique, but it’s good to have a little change… i like that song that she has out now called, “Wait A Minute”… Do ya thang Kanye.

  16. kimwill02

    Looking forward to her album.

  17. Jodie

    “Tell em wagwaan blood….”
I’m lovin this track …love how she called it American boy but still kept some UK-ness in there.

  18. kris-e-tina

    I love it! =)

  19. Nana

i really like the track. but there’s no way i could compare her to Lauryn…i just dont here it. It’s time for something different in the industry, she’s a breath of fresh air.

  20. Bryce

She’s nothing like Lauryn Hill…please stop comparing!!

  21. V-Licious

LOVE IT! Nice summer feel to it. Good luck Estelle!

  22. I wouldn’t compare her to Lauren Hill….more like Janelle Monae…

  23. CapCityChick

This song has that John Legend feel to it…Like Im supposed to be running around in Paris with my man and a video camera recording goofy things people do when they are in love..LOL

  24. H2O

    ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

  25. nkrumah

It will be funny if people love this song cuz the beat is from an album that most people hated on, “songs about girls” will.i.am solo debut. Errone needs to go over that album again cuz it was dope.

  26. Joy

Her music is hot! She has a really good stage presence as well. I can’t wait for her album!

  27. I'm_kinda_a_big_deal

listen to her first single, wait a minute (just a touch). Her aura is very similar to the L boogie and Janae (I concur)

  28. Chicagorilla

This music is from will.I.am’s album. Is Ye bitin or is this a remix os “Impatient”?

  29. Feeling it!

Why are people saying she reminds them of Lauryn Hill??? That girl don’t look or sound like her.

  30. RileyFinesse

We all should know by now that Will.i.am is a business man. He sell beats and produce beats. So I am sure she paid for using the track, furthermore Will.i.am gives beats to artist he feels can do something positive with it. I think Estelle accomplished that. I love the song, it’s fresh and it’s different! Kanye also adds a nice feel to the track. John Legend picked a great artist to represent his eclectic style of music!

  31. Tamika

This song is soooo hot. Plus I support anything with my boy Kanye on it.

  32. a.k.a. new yorker

it’s kinda cute. i prefer “wait a minute”

@nkrumah he set himself up for failure when he released “i got it from my mama”. that song was one of the worst songs that i’ve heard in a while. no originality, just girls shaking their asses. i thought the concept was disgusting. i had more hope in him

  33. FallBackHaterz

    @#17- I agree!

I love ‘Wait a minute’, thats my jam

  34. Bryce

After hearing Kanye’s verse, I kinda wish it was just HIS song…

  35. blackisbeautiful

I knew this was a Will.i.am track when I first heard it..lol..I wasn’t feeling Estelle at first but when I saw an interview she did I loved her instantly she has a very funny sense of humor..lol..this song is better than the last one..so maybe I will check her out ;)

  36. blackisbeautiful

    @ 29

I agree “Songs About Girls” was a dope album it’s just “I got it from my momma” was just trash..but “She’s a Star”, “Fly Girl” , and “Heartbreaker” are my joints..from will..lol..but there are many more..Will is the truth don’t sleep on the brotha!

  37. Have Not Thought of a New User Name

I wouldn’t compare her to Lauren Hill but I do like her. Everytime I see the “Wait a Minute (Just a touch)” video on VH1 Soul I jam lol.

  38. lola

    this is hotttttt

More uk artists need to come over to the states with their sh*t
alot of london based artists have great stuff but dont bother crossing over here

    unique

    shes great!

  39. Mayne

I’m diggin’ this tune! This takes me back to life in London. Nice sound. Holla at your bred’ren

  40. nunya

Kanye’s verse is hott… but the rest of the song is rubbish in my opinion…

  41. Tennis

That is hot!!! Now that is good music.

  42. MidnightSnack

wow this is nice! i didn’t like her first single but this is definitely the the business..she reminds me of Kelis (not the milkshake version the re-imagined version)

  43. Ladyssolady

I absolutely LOVE her music!! It’s new and refreshing!! I love hearing something ‘different’ and not that same cookie-cutter mess!!! I always thought those from ‘across the pond’ have/had some of the best voices. Btw, I know I’ve heard this beat somewhere before too!

  44. tsweet

I love this track. Her voice is so refreshing

  45. Mariah

I love this track & I’ve only played it twice! Estelle is definetely someone I’ve liked since she came out in the UK a few years ago, her sound is definetely different and I’m glad she’s trying to break the US :)

I see no similarities with her and Lauryn Hill though, I guess everything considered “different” and a “breath of fresh air” is related to Lauryn? Whatevs. Ms. Hill just needs to go into rehab & sort her shit out. I miss the old Lauryn!

Anyway I’m babbling. I’m just glad she’s repping the UK! “Tell ‘em wagwun blud” LOL…you know!

  46. Mariah

“I always thought those from ‘across the pond’ have/had some of the best voices.”

    We do! ♥

  47. Michology

reminds me of 80s music….very funky and retro…she is bringing the fire…..people from london are loving her boi !!!!!!!!!!!

  48. huh

    love it
estelle is one of the most talented artists in the music industry, shes a great rapper and singer so guess thats why everyones comparing her to L boogie.

personally i think l boogie is in a league of her own, shes incredible artistically
but estelle is extremely talented and i love how the song has an american vibe but she still throws in the london slang.

this song does hav a bit of a janelle sound to it, but both artists are great so i dont thnk we need to compare them

  49. a.k.a. new yorker

estelle is nothing like lauryn but i think lauryn is overrated anyway

  50. HTownStandUp

Love it!! She makes me wants some more ‘Ame-ri-can Boys’!! I like her voice style, the fact that she raps and sings and especially how she is holding it down for the chocolate sistas! hold it!

  51. Dame

I like it Estelle does have a nice voice. I was just reading about her in Rolling Stone magazine.

  52. cc

Eh, it was alright. Her voice is weak. She needs some singing lessons.
I like the song, just not her singing it.

  53. cc

Eh. It was alright. She needs some voice lessons to strengthen her voice and correct her going flat.
I like the song, just not her singing it.

  54. Stop With the Comparisons

The only similarity between Lauryn and Estelle is that they both sing and rap. This is a pretty solid song and I like the “just a touch” song. Very interested in hearing more.

  55. Daydreamer

I have to agree that Will I Am’s Impatient is better. Estelle’s lyrics are great but another beat would have been better. Kanye is amazing as usual always reppin Chicago!!!! House Music All Night Long
