Here we have new music from the beautiful Estelle. I absolutely love the vibe of this song, and I love the sound of her voice. As we told you last year, The UK sensation is the first artist to be signed to John Legend’s new ‘Homeschool Records’ label. I am very excited about this project, the more I hear from her. She is funky to me. I love this girl’s imagery. “American Boy” is definitely a ‘diggable’ track, it’s from her upcoming album, Shine which has recently been pushed back for May 2008 release.

Hi, I just wanna come on the mic to say let’s not compare Janelle Monae to Estelle. Each have their own musical style. I personally prefer Ms. Jane over Estelle’s, just a tad. Don’t get me wrong, Estelle’s vibe is uber cool, and I’m definitely appreciating the “outside of the box” approach sans the light skin and lace-front wigs. We need more newcomers to get more creative and not limit themselves. However, I think that Janelle’s voice is purer, smoother, and definitely more classic.
With that being said, I’m looking forward to more of Estelle’s stuff.

Her voice isn’t all that great in my opinion, but I think people will like her. The song is different, got a good vibe to it. She couldn’t go wrong throwing Kanye on the track.

I would never compare her to Lauren Amy Weinhouse stole Laurens act. dam Estelle is has U S A potential, we all know it is difficutl for UK r& B to make it here but besides that Bailey rea chick she has a good shot especially with Kanye on board. Her other song that she had a video for was just a touch sounded too popy commercial like. It sounded like a jingle for a deorderant commercial. LOL! But this song is fun and cool kind of a house music Soho feel. Its a good look. She could possibly be compared to Kelis! But Kelis has way more sex appeal- but I look forward to seeing more from estelle.

sorry to say it but, what’s “new” or “different” about this estelle stuff? not to say that it’s not great or I don’t like it, but this sounds like disco or french house. is what makes this new and different the fact that a lot of other black artists are content with just playing into what other people expect to hear and whats popular right now (E.I. getting drunk in the club, snappin fingers, and doin steps)? sad but true, but i’m glad to see theres more hip black artists comin on the horizon.

Estelle is “ok”.. im not totally impressed by her skillz.. the production on “Just A Touch” was unique so it stood out.. this is retro on the production side.. Ye.. could do better, she sounds whiny.. and im sure Ye got his nutz off taking her to “NY” like she obviously wanted.. Does having top selling Ye on this make it any better.. NO.

Estelle is talented. She puts in a lot of work in to her music so hopefully you guys in the states will feel what she is doing as her first single didn’t do well in the UK. She’s always had the comparison with L Boogie, simply because she raps and sings. Many people that watched her rise in the UK will tell you she’s a rapper first and that her singing voice is OK, but not great and that she needs vocal training so hopefully she’ll get that. As for her looks, I guess everyone has their opinions, but many have said the sexy look the label is trying to put out for her won’t work as she is more of a tom boy.
Regardless, let the music speak for itself and hopefully she will get the success and support from her fans.
Oh @93 Melolly that mentioned the success going to her head, I know a few people that worked with her in London and many of them would say that she did change, got a bit rude to some people that helped in her career when she was coming up. So in light of that, if it does go wrong for Estelle then I hope she doesn’t try to ‘beg friend’ all over again.

I think she most definately sounds like L Boogie….if you hear the song Come Over ft. John Legend those who say no will change their minds. Woke me up out my sleep when I heard her singing because I thought it was Lauren. Go to utube and put in Estelle come over ft. John Legend and I am sure you will agree. Can’t wait for the album either because I can’t find the song to buy…nor download (legally…LOL).
