Umm…can someone explain to what real, ‘Hip-Hop,’ is?

Is Hip-Hop music about selling drugs, bragging about how much $$ you got, how many women you banged. Or is it about discussing topics that affect minorities everyday? I have a hard time trying figure out what people mean, in terms of, what’s real/constitutes hip-hop.

Jay keepin these young boys on their toes! I don’t think this song is complete - it’s a snippet that DJ Clue played and he mostly played the chorus. No rapper can touch Jay lyrically that’s why he can still do it. There are a lot of similar rappers and they definitely try and bite the flow, but no one delivers like Jay. Stop hatin’ and keep appreciatin’ that he’s been giving you hotness for over 10 years. No other rapper can say that they did it consistely like him.

I know you might not be the biggest Jay neither am I but he did switch up his style. “Kingdome Come” was a very mature album done by Jay-z. However this style is not what people were use to. @159 - Rihanna just reached platinum in the US whereas Jay’s about 200K away from being platinum in the US (both are platinum worldwide). Jay just came out in Nov. whereas Rihanna came out in June. Can’t compare - besides. Jay’s sold tons of albums. Also, Rihanna’s on her 3-4 album and combined hasn’t sold 10 million. The shine she’s been receiving has been through modeling - not through here artistry singing. She hasn’t done well in reviews of her concert tours (stage presence, dancing, singing and ticket sales have sucked). She might be the one getting dropped. Jay can’t get dropped - he owns his label.
