♫ Nicole Wray – Stand Up
Anybody remember Nicole Wray? She only released one album and struggled to release new material over the past few years. I actually liked the direction that she was going with her track “If I Was Your Girlfriend,” a couple years ago, but it didn’t catch on as well as I thought it would. Over the last couple years, I’ve posted a couple of new tracks from Nicole, like “Take Your Man” (supposedly produced by Rich Harrison), but none of them seemed to produce any buzz.
This new single, “Stand Up” is produced by Dame Grease, and is apparently from a new album that Nicole plans to release sometime during 2008. I like the production of it, but I’m not sure if I’m quite sold on the song. I want to hear some more material to see what direction Nicole’s going in.

I don’t like the lyrics or the content in general. Is generic at best (sip on Patrone, get your hair done for your man blah blah). I think she needs to go back in the studio and try again.
I love her voice. My favorite Nicole Wray song will always be “Eyes Better Not Wonder” (not sure about the title). I love that song and that is a beautiful picture of her.
#10….I agree. I just saw the Janet video the other day and I thought the song was just okay. It was nothing to jump up and down about. I was actually disappointed. We hear talk of how all these younger singers are recycling her style. But she’s doing the same damn thing! It’s time to hang up the towel as far as I’m concerned. Twenty years is enough….
I like the song it’s catchy and the production is hot. I wonder if it’s going to radio or if it’s just a buzz single. I don’t know who Dame Grease is but he has some talent.

I mean the production is pretty hot, but TO ME the song is kind of your ordinary, run of the mill, Christina MilianISH “Say I”, BeyonceISH “Get me Bodied”, Mary J BligeISH “Just Fine”, “people are gonna hate —but you do you boo!” song. I love these songs but I think the subject matter is getting old. I don’t know maybe I’m just on the vibe of Emily King, Estelle, Ledisi and Chrisette Michele right now…..
