POLITICAL ROUND UP: CELEBS @ OBAMA EVENT / THOMPSON DROPS OUT / FALSE PRETENSES LED U.S. TO WAR?

Wednesday, January 23, 2008

( Photos: Corey Brunson / SCSU Student )

Barack Obama and many of his celebrity supporters stopped by South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, S.C., on Tuesday to speak with the students. Among the celebs were Kerry Washington, Chris Tucker, and Usher.

Corey Brunson, a student at SCSU sent in these photos and a recap:

Just thought I would share these pics with you guys! I attend SCSU and went to the Obama event.

…Barack hit strong points as to why we should vote for him, lowering gas prices, college tuition, extending the age teenagers can stay on their parents health insurance and much more. It was a packed house and afterwards they were all willing to take pics and sign autographs. It was great!

THOMPSON DROPS OUT

Former TN Sen. Fred Thompson may have played a U.S. president in a made-for-TV movie (Ulysses S. Grant in Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee), but he will not get a chance at the real role in November.

Thompson announced Tuesday he had ended his run for the White House after earning a disappointing third place finish in South Carolina’s Republican primary.

According to a statement on his website:

“Today I have withdrawn my candidacy for President of the United States. I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort. Jeri and I will always be grateful for the encouragement and friendship of so many wonderful people.”

As I mentioned in the Nevada Recap, South Carolina is key because since 1980, no Republican candidate has managed to make it to the White House without winning the state’s primary.

I actually thought Thompson might be a real contender; look at other actors who made the transition into politics: California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura, former President Ronald Reagan. Additionally, he ran the fourth largest presidential campaign behind Romney, Guiliani and McCain, respectively.

In farewell fashion, Sean Hackberth, who worked for Thompson’s eCampaign, wrote:

“Fred Thompson ran for President with his head held high. He offered conservative ideas that set him apart from all the other candidates. Politics is a strange affair. The person you think would be the best leader for America sometimes doesn’t win.”

FALSE PRETENSES LED U.S. TO WAR?

(Photo: AP)

A study posted Tuesday on the Center for Public Integrity’s website concludes that President Bush and top administration officials issued 935 false statements regarding the national security threat from Iraq in the two years following the 2001 terrorist attacks.

According to the report, the statements:

“were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses.”

The study found that in speeches, briefings, interviews as well as other venues, Bush and other administration officials stated on at least 532 occasions that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction or was trying to produce or obtain them or had links to al-Qaida or both.

“It is now beyond dispute that Iraq did not possess any weapons of mass destruction or have meaningful ties to al-Qaida,” according to Charles Lewis and Mark Reading-Smith of the Fund for Independence in Journalism staff members, writing an overview of the study. “In short, the Bush administration led the nation to war on the basis of erroneous information that it methodically propagated and that culminated in military action against Iraq on March 19, 2003.”

“The two parties have combined against us to nullify our power by a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ of non-recognition, no matter how we vote … May God write us down as asses if ever again we are found putting our trust in either the Republican or the Democratic Parties.” — W.E.B. DuBois (1922)

Wow you guys are really on BUSH, but instead of try to explain to the masses, remember everything they are saying about this war, THEY ( some group of outsiders who are outside the loop and believe that America will stay America if we dont ever go to War with anyone) Way back to the civil war. After they faught that war more people on the north were mad then on the South. There is always going to be war. If we cant get along with the people that live next door to us, why is it expected that we will get along with the next country over. And the funny thing to me is that no one ever did a survey with the Iraqi people. I’m talking about the ones that live over there in Iraq. If you live in the US you are AMERICAN. Not African American, Iraqi Americam, Mexican American. You live in America it should be first and foremost. There are educated people in Iraq but you dont see them on TV. What will be funny to see is how the black community will act if on the slim chance Obama is elected and we go to war with Pakastan. Will that be justifed?

Completely cosign w/ #15 & #17!!!

C’mon folks let’s be honest there’s not that big of a difference b/t Obama and Hilary. They both stand for the same things, the only difference is that Hilary has more experience in politics, and also has more connections. I think it all comes down to personality and charisma. That’s what people will be voting on, b/c both Obama & Hilary want the same things for Amerikkka.

As for Huckabee and Ron Paul…you must be joking! Huckabee is a heavily religious racistm and Ron Paul (as someone mentioned early), it’s shocking that his @ss is even still in the race, lol! Although, I do somewhat agree on Huckabee’s plans on immigration, but that’s pretty much where it ends on my agreement w/ Huckabee…lol!

Ms. Clinton has my vote…not barely two years ago I had never heard the name Barack Obama…Black people are soooo fickle…we change with the wind…Most black people cant even tell you why they are voting for Barack other than the fact that he is black…and we have never to criticize white folks…

Clinton practically ran this country when her husband was in office so I am already aware of the amazing job she can do

Lmao, I mean cosign @ #18; gas prices, college tuition and health insurance will help my black ass! WTF is wrong with many of you people!! I am Black and a Woman; when I say I support Obama, suddently I am only voting him because he’s Black. IF I said I support Hillary, it’s because I am a WOMAN. DAMN, do some you people think before you talk? I support Obama because I identify and agree with the issues he speaks about. I have been lookin’ at him since ‘05!! I live in New York, I know Hillary… “She’s alright but she’s not real, Obama that’s deal” to me!! Either love it or leave it alone….And to say that I support Obama because he’s Black is completely irrrelevant because if Jesse Jackson, Condoleezza Rice or Clarence Thomas were running for president right now, I WOULD NEVER SUPPORT THEM!

Obama ‘08!! Anything less TO ME is irrelevant

Truth is the Truth is right

Obama is a CFR and so is hillary clinton, they are both a part of the satanist/pagan illuminati freemasons..

Ron Paul is the only one not in the club.

and Ron Paul is still in the race because he has money and most of his workers work for free because they believe in the message, everyone else has paid campaign workers..

Ron Paul knows how to be fiscally responsible he knows how to get the most for his money.

How is it he totalled about 30 million dollars, and obama and clinton and guiliani have over 100 million dollars and they have all almost ran through that money but ron paul hasnt.

Lastly Obama and Clinton have the same donors

Goldman sachs
Jp morgan
you know the wonderful companies who help outsource jobs through manage trade with central and south america.

Obama is an empty suit and a false prophet

aparantly most black folks are too stupid to vote based on real issues

BARACK OBAMA IS THE TRUTH!!!!!!! AND ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE WHO THINKS OTHERWISE, REALLY NEEDS TO GO BACK AND READ THE FACTS! PEOPLE ALWAYS TALKING ABOUT BARACK DOES NOT HAVE EXPERIENCE, BUT DOES HILLARY REALLY HAVE EXPERIENCE??? HER HUSBAND HAS EXPERIENCE, BUT HE IS NOT RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT. DID GEORGE WASHINGTON HAVE EXPERIENCE BEFORE HE WAS TE 1ST PRESIDENT OF THE US?? NO!! B/C HE WAS THE FIRST!!! THERE IS A FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING AND YOU LEARN FROM YOUR EXPERIENCES!!! THE ONLY REASON PEOPLE ARE GIVING MR. OBAMA A HARD TIME IS B/C HE IS A BLACK MAN TRYING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF HE WERE WHITE EVERYONE WOULD BE ON HIS ASS AGAINST HILLARY!!! GIVE THE MAN A DAMN CHANCE!! HE IS ABOUT HELPING EVERYONE AND THAT IS SOMETHING THE US REALLY NEEDS RIGHT ABOUT NOW!! SOME DAMN HELP!
BARACK OBAMA HAS MY VOTE AND I AM MAKING IT MY MISSION TO ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO LISTEN TO HIM AND MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE BY VOTING FOR HIM!!!!

VOTE BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!!!!
VOTE BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!!!!
VOTE BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT!!!!

It is really hard to believe any politician…that’s why it is good to look at the debates and check out each politician history. As for Obama he really haven’t done much in congress…I would like to see an african american in the whitehouse but they have to be true to the game and stop feeding hungary americans lies…the only politician on this trail which has the experience, qualifications and solid history is Hillary Rodman Clinton, not saying she has my vote but hey..she is the only one qualified to deal with the international, economics, healthcare issues we have now.

Peace

Gas prices are tied to inflation

of course all politicians but ron paul will lie to you about it.

Gas will continue to rise as long as there is war in the middle east and the US borrows money to pay for the war.

DUH

Economics 101

OBama will not do any of that

Clinton will not do any of that

Ron Paul has enough respect for the public to tell them the truth, aparently he should just lie his way into office like the rest

@Ja

I agree that when you leave America, there is no such thing as African Canadian, African Chinese, African South American. America has classified people in categories for control. They want to keep track of how many foreigners are coming to this country. Well I know that almost 1/2 of the American population are consist of African Americans, Asians, Hispanics, Caribbeans, and Africans. They use these statistics to create chaos and manipulate the media into a frenzy.

I refuse to vote for a Clinton. I’m already tired of the monopoly that the Bush Administrative have going around and I personally feel that America is tired of the games that are played around with people lives. The Clintons have corruption behind their names. Hillary did start a campaign for Health care but she later stop the campaign because of payoffs by the Insurance Industry. The Clintons are responsible for jobs going oversees, Clinton was the one that signed the bill to allow free trade in the banking industry. Thats why we have some many unregulated occupations (real estate). Savings has gone negative. Look at the mess we’re in we have to borrow from foreign countries that were supposedly involved in 9/11 (Saudi’s). We borrow money from Asia to fund our Wars, but who ends up paying for it, We do, the taxpayers. Slowly but surely America will become China, Japan and many of the nations that the media portray as the enemies. I know many of you will say that the Clintons balanced the budget, well guess what the deficit remained the same. We have not had a President that is capable to decrease the deficit. America borrows funds from Asia to help support their consumer drive, that we fail to realize how are we going to pay down a debt with a depreciating dollar. We are no longer competitors amongst ourselves, we are competitors against other nations. We are being laughed at because we praise on the Constitution. But we have failed to realized that we are allowing the government and media make our decisions. People need to do the research and find out what each candidate is about based on their past, not just the current. America has failed on its people. V for Vendetta.

Yeah. But that’s how we gained everybody’s trust, by helping everybody. If we stop helping with the bans, they might go to the other groups. I can’t imagine what would happen if we lost our control.
