POLITICAL ROUND UP: READY FOR A BLACK PRESIDENT? / CLINTON FALLS ASLEEP / NEW BUSH MOVIE? / USHER @ OBAMA RALLY?
Tuesday, January 22, 2008

According to a recent CNN poll, 72 percent of whites and 61 percent of blacks surveyed believe America is ready for a black president. Two years ago, only 65 percent of whites and 54 percent of blacks felt that way.
Both whites and blacks are concerned about the following in the same order: the economy, Iraq, terrorism, health care, gas prices and Iran.
In regard to race relations, 52 percent of black Americans say the issue will pose a problem in the United States, compared to 43 percent of whites. Fifteen years prior, though, in 1993, 55 percent of blacks and 53 percent of whites felt that way.
The survey was conducted by phone Jan. 14-17 with 1,393 adult Americans: 743 whites and 513 blacks.
If you haven’t done so already, check out the Concrete Loop 2008 Issues Poll.

STONE SETS SIGHTS ON BUSH

(Photo: Splash Images)
Hollywood director Oliver Stone is in the process of developing a script about President Bush and how he came to power. Stone hopes the film will hit theaters in time for the general election next fall.
Stone told Variety that the film will focus on how Bush was able to win the White House and will be a “true portrait” of the 43rd president.
“I’m a dramatist who is interested in people, and I have empathy for Bush as a human being, much the same as I did for Castro, Nixon, Jim Morrison, Jim Garrison and Alexander the Great,” Stone said.
“I want a fair, true portrait of the man. How did Bush go from an alcoholic bum to the most powerful figure in the world? It’s like Frank Capra territory on one hand, but I’ll also cover the demons in his private life, his bouts with his dad and his conversion to Christianity, which explains a lot of where he is coming from. It includes his belief that God personally chose him to be president of the United States, and his coming into his own with the stunning, preemptive attack on Iraq,” he added.
Who will be playing the commander in chief? Josh Brolin, from American Gangster and more recently, No Country for Old Men.
According to Stone:
“Josh is actually better looking than Bush but has the same drive and charisma that Americans identify with Bush, who has some of that old-time movie-star swagger,” he said.
USHER TO APPEAR AT OBAMA RALLY?

(Photo: Splash Images)
CNN is reporting that R&B superstar Usher will appear with Sen. Barack Obama at a rally in Orangeburg, S.C., on Tuesday.
Usher won’t be performing; instead, he’ll speak about why he is supporting Obama.
This is not the first time Usher has spoken out in favor of Obama.
“I stand here representing our youth,” he said at a rally in Atlanta last September. “If you want change you have to get involved.”
Glad to hear that more people are getting involved in the political process. I remember hearing Usher call in to MTV’s Choose or Lose Special during the last election urging his fans to vote and letting the world know that he would be voting in his first presidential election.
Update: Usher’s dad, Usher Raymond III, died last Friday in Atlanta. No word on whether that will impact his Orangeburg visit.

# 72 - ABSOLUTELY. It is absolutely just as ignorant to vote for a candidate simply because he/she is a certain gender- and thank you for pointing that out.
I agree with you 100% - there is a bias.
Had Obama cried on stage about the woes of being black (I’m not saying Hillary’s cry was about being a women - but one could assume that) it would be a wrap for him. Not only would he have lost white people, but I believe black people certainly would have dropped him. I believe people were a little soft to it because she’s a women and it’s ok for her to be ‘human’, however, a man could not have pulled that off. White or black he would have been perceived as weak.
There will always be double-standards - but were talking about the president here! We must use the same ruler for all when measuring there capacity to take on this position.

I am only speaking to those of the democratic party, the republicans want Hillary to win….it has been said all over the media if you are paying attention, it was even stated in our papers here where I live, my post man is a republican and he said yes because we can beat her because many of those who voted for Obama which were a lot do not want her in office and they will even vote republican or independent. that is the strategy even Senator Kennedy and others have asked Bill to back off of Obama because the party needs him and that he should go after the republicans and not Obama and that he should let his wife run his race, and Obama is correct he is running against Bill and Hillary.
Even after the debate last time and they interviewed those who watched, they asked in the fianl analysis who they would vote for and they said Obama because he has a better chance of winning for the Dems.
None of the old boys want Hillary of Bill in the white house again and the Republicans sure as heck don’t.
I personally am fed up with this political process after watching Hillary and Clinton at work, I wish Mr.Obama would tell the US and these dumb a_ _ black folks who have their noses up the Clintons a_ _ _ _, living in the past way in the past to kiss his a_ _ and go home to his white and family and let Bill and Hillary have this time country and the white house, if I were him if the people don’t respect me as a man they I would say the hell with you all.
This shit is sick…..all because an African American desires to be President and two people who have control issues and think the white house belongs to them and they have all the answers for this country and no one else has any sense but them…give it to them, because I promise you I will never vote for them Clintons ever again.
Bill and Hillary ain’t sh_ _ and they only show up at our churches during election times and the only reason he is down there in SC because he is vote pimping for his wife and blacks folks are so gulllible, he is only using them and they can’t see it.
On black woman interviewed in SC said the reason she would always vote for the Clintons because Hillary is the only one who can go in their and change everything in one day, this old itch is sick, and delusional at best.
I hope the witch (Hillary does win and the republicans tear her to shreds and I don’t want to hear another black person say we need a democrat in office), you yave your chance and your iignorant behind the times gullible and decieved behinds don’t have sense to see this.

#72 - ABSOLUTELY! It is absolutely just as ignorant to vote for a person based solely on gender! - Thank you for pointing that out.

Had Obama cried on stage about the woes of being black (I’m not saying Hillary’s cry was about being a women - one could certainly assume that though) it would have been a wrap for him. He would have lost both white and black people. Any man that would have done that would have been perceived as weak. Because it was Hillary many people said that they were glad to see her being ‘human’.
While doube-standards will always exist we must keep in mind that this our future president we are talking about! We cannot bend this way or that way on the grounds of race or gender.
Lets do as Dr. King dreamed and judge based on the content of character (in addition to stance on major issues, etc. :-). We must use the same ruler when measuring who has the capacity to take on this major role.

OUR NATIONAL SECURITY????
Tuesday, January 22, 2008 /
I’ve read these comments has anyone of you geniuses with your comments ever thought about our national security?????? It’s not what the Clintons want and that is power…….they are not thinking of the good of this country…that is why THEY planed their return to white house years ago.
The countries we are at war with a war which Hillary says she will get the troops back in however many days are countries which have no regards for women, they hate their mere existence and truly hate women leaders and they are sitting back right now waiting to see if we are this tupid to delegate a woman in leadrership at this time in this country????
This is not time for this womans lib….. bullshit.
Like Stephen Kings said in his endorsement of Obama this would be a wonderful time in this world for an African American to become president and he also eluded to say that the Clintons have too much baggage.
And most of the tv media news oulets proudly say the Clintons will do whatever and the destroy whomever is in their path to make history the first woman Presiden and to do third term in office through their strategy.
Just some food for thought!!!!!!
Have fun children………..this is your country and wahtever you decide you will live the consequences…..

Kamee'-- OBAMA for president!
Tuesday, January 22, 2008 /
I LOVE Obama. And I’m glad that he is finally standing up to some of the attacks from the Clinton administration. Me and a girlfriends of mine were discussing this today. I think America needs a change. Obama is like the J.F.K of our time. He’s young and fresh, with innovative thought. Besides that, I believe he has a greater chance of changing the way the world (especially militant nations like, Korea, Iraq, Iran, Africa, who believe women should be seen and not heard) views us. If they are going to change the economy regarding our trade practices and foreign oil, to lower everyday American energy cost, this will have to be done by a man. Hillary will get in the faces of those men who run those nations and get her feelings hurt. They already don’t like Americans, let alone a woman. Besides that, people in America may feel that Bill Clinton did good for America, but what about other nations of the world? If she wins, (which I hope she doesn’t) she’ll be persecuted for guilt by association. I’m sorry, but those men have been bread to believe women are inferior to men. They will not respect or take her serious. This election is not only about healing America, but also nations of the world for a better economy and trade practice. I honestly believe he has a chance.
Thats something to think about people.

Hillary did not “rip barak a new asshole”. She was barely convincing, and was only consistent in trying to diminish barak’s reputation with lies and misleading remarks. Minorities on a hold should just stop backing someone because of their last name. She is not as experienced as she claims to be. She failed at enacting universal healthcare because she’s a very divisive and power hungry person, and her husband is also obssessed with the spotlight. In such a great democracy, there should not be two families exchanging power for over 20 years. After a while progress is lost, and all thats left is people trying to quench their insatiable thirst for hunger.

@ Visonary: My sentiments exactly.
As I posted in # 81…….it is time for a change. As you stated, The Bushes and Clintons have ran this country for over 20+ years. If we’re going to have a real chance for homeland/world change, it will have to come from a new President! Other world nations have been rubbed wrong by the past two administrations. If we want change, we have to vote change. Obama is the best contendor for change. Simply put.

It seems that Bill is trying to get back in the house, not Hilary.Everybody voted Bush to be in the White House because he was the son of Sr Bush, but now people want his ass out (9-11, War In Iraq & Katrina). So you tell me are any of you actually voting rather because of her experience?Or she cried on national TV because as a woman we are emotional and you connected because she is a woman?Well wouldn’t it be nice to be connected because I see someone like me?But vote who you vote, but don’t tell me I’m ignorant because I’m voting for Obama and happen to be black.Either way people are never going to be satisfied with whoever is in the white house because it’s hard to please everybody.

I really don’t put a lot faith in “polls” because people say one thing to appear a certain way or they tell the pollster anything to get them out of their faces or off the phone. I think these polls can be misleading.
My condolences to Usher and his family.
—————————————————————————————————————-
I totally agree about the polls.
New Hampshire should clearly remind folks that polls don’t mean squat.
And while I’m excited about the idea of an intelligent, competent Black man running for President of the United States, it is crucial for Black Obama supporters to remember that at best we represent 13-15% of the U.S. voting public. Even if EVERY Black person here voted for Barack, we won’t be enough to put him in office. Our vote is definitely powerful and important, but we’re outnumbered. It’s nothing personal - the election is simply a game of numbers. If we were 70-80% of the U.S. population, we wouldn’t be having this discussion.
Every American should vote for the candidate that they believe in most. What is troubling though is that many will allow themselves to be suckered in by the media through the “polls.” If many aren’t careful, they will allow their voting power to be influenced by “polls” which are, at best, faulty. And New Hampshire was just the beginning. Polls had Obama ahead in Nevada too - yet Hillary won. Though their votes didn’t count so far, look at Michigan. About 21% of the Democratic voters went to the polls during their primary. The majority of the Black votes went to Obama - yet Hillary won again with 55% of Michigan’s votes.
I just hope that we won’t be fooled by voters who will “poll” Black but “vote” White.

I just want to say for the record who hasnt nodded off in church or anywhere else for that matter. I mean lets just be real about the situation. I betting my money that most of you if not all of you dozed off at some point at church this past sunday, thats if u went LOL! And other thing i am sick and tried of hearing my people say vote for obama because he is a black man. Him being a “black man” should have nothing to do with voting for him. So i guess the next time that we have some type of elections in my home city i should just vote for the black canidate because he is BLACK! And it is so funny how when everybody was jumping on Hillary Clinton it was all fair play but as soon as the tables turn and people started jumping on Obama they were being to harsh! What every happen to the double standard, no wait i forgot that got thrown out the window as soon as we realize that Obama was a BLACK canidate. However you choose to vote in the forthcoming weeks just remember that each person has a right to vote, so use it! GOD BLESS

To be honest supporting someone solely based on skin color or gender is absolutely ridiculous. I’ve seen it happen in my community, and because of it, nothing gets done. People must understand the facts at hand, READ. They can promise change as much as they want, but inability to act on or achieve leads to false hope. It DOES take someone with experience, and being from Iliinois I DON’T feel Obama is ready for the white house. He was only elected senator a couple years ago, and prior to that he was unheard of. Just prove me wrong Senator Obama, and maybe I’ll decide whether your “CHANGE” outweighs experience and respect. I’ll be supporting Clinton until then.
