POLITICAL ROUND UP: KERRY ENDORSES OBAMA / ROSEANNE SOUNDS OFF / RICHARDSON OUT

Friday, January 11, 2008

Senator John Kerry, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee, embraced the presidential candidacy of Senator Barack Obama in Charleston, S.C., saying Mr. Obama “had the greatest potential to lead a transformation, not just a transition.”

“Who better than Barack Obama to bring new credibility to America’s role in the world and help restore our moral authority?” Mr. Kerry said, speaking at a rally at the College of Charleston. “Who better than Barack Obama to turn a new page in American politics, so that Democrats, independents and Republicans alike can look to the leadership that unites to find common ground.” [ Read the article in its entirety ].

Roseanne Sounds Off

rbarr.jpg
(Photo: View Images )

Roseanne Barr has published a tirade attacking Barack (misspelled ‘Barak’) Obama as “corporately owned” and “great for young people who are naive and iconoclastic.” She also rips into “Oprah Winfrey, beloved of women,” for “[choosing] a flashy man with small credentials over a seasoned woman politician with 35 years of experience.”

“Oprah has given us Swartzenegger [sic] and Dr. Phil,” Roseanne writes. “If that was not offensive enough to decent thinking people, now she brings us Obama.”

In a later entry, Roseanne apologizes for “sounding like I don’t like Oprah or Obama.” She explains that she “just got carried away with [her] preference for Hilary [sic] over Obama.” Check out her rant and apology.

Richardson Drops Out

brich.jpg
(Photo: AP PHOTOS)

Bill Richardson ended his long-shot bid for the Democratic presidential nomination yesterday after finishing fourth in the first two contests in Iowa and New Hampshire.

He praised all of his Democratic rivals but endorsed no one. He encouraged voters to “take a long and thoughtful look” and elect one of them president.

“Despite overwhelming financial and political odds, I am proud of the campaign we waged . . . and most importantly the influence we had on the issues that matter the most to the future of this country,” he said.

Richardson, 60, announced his decision at the state Capitol, saying he was returning to “the best job in the world,” as New Mexico’s governor - a post that term limits will force him from in 2010. With the New Mexico Legislature convening for its annual one-month regular session on Tuesday, he said with a grin, “I’m back.”

I’m 17, bu when this election rolls around, I’ll be 18 and I’m DEFINITELY voting. I can’t believe I’m interested in this election; maybe it’s because Bush isn’t running? smh.

Man that Rosanne mess had me laughing. She is one of the most annoying “somediancs” out there, and is well known for speaking nothing but ignorance.

Ayy J. Dakar, I got a question; who are YOU endorsing for the Democratic race; Hilary or Obama? I’m not feeling Hilary’s whole “swagger” and “attitude” about her whole run towards presidency, and Obama sounds like he’s gonna bring a change. I just want your opinion.

John Kerry dissed both John Edwards and Hillary Clinton. Kerry chose Edwards as his running mate in ‘04 and Hillary endorsed Kerry’s presidential bid in ‘04. This may not have that much of an impact to his campaign, but Kerry has worked closely will all three of these nominees, and he chose to endorse Obama. That’s big in my book.

I don’t believe John Kerry is endorsing Obama because he thinks that Obama is the best for the job, He is endorsing Obama because it is his way at getting back at Hillary and Edwards.

Edwards and Kerry never got along, during the campaign in 2004 they clashed and argued over many things including how to campaign. After the loss Edwards promised Kerry that he would not run for president in 2008, and ran anyway against the wishes of Kerry, which made Kerry hate Edwards even more.

Although Hillary supported Kerry on numerous occasions, their relationship was strained when Kerry made a comment when he said (I’m not quoting) something about if someone doesn’t want to go to school then they can go fight in Iraq, which caused a lot of controversy and backlash against Kerry. He was criticized by many for his comment, including Hillary Clinton, which surprised him and they have not gotten along ever since.

So when I see Kerry endorsing Obama, when his two biggest competitions are Edwards and Clinton, two people that Kerry has personal dislike for makes me wonder if he is just endorsing Obama because it is his way at getting back at Edwards and Clinton.

I’m sorry, but I’m with Roseanne all the way.

Bush has our government and economy in such a state of disrepair that we need someone who really knows the ins and outs of the political system. Hilary is exeperienced, and when it comes to running the damn country that should count for something.

Obama’s ideas seem great, and I am an optimist, but when you’re dealing with the lives of real people, you have to have a focused, realistic plan. In short, I do not believe Obama will be able to pull off the things he says.

We have to fix Bush’s mess and all the things that are broken before we can leap to his idealistic goals. He is progressive, and I like that. But, we need to get our heads above water before we can talk about the shore.

So Obama campaign is in a good place financially speaking. But do you really want a man who lied about his Vietnam record supporting you? I think it’s good to have all the candidates kept on their toes. Hillary assumed the nomination would be hers and Obama running against her has mucked it up. For all the poeple who think Obama doesn’t have a clear-cut vision: Do Some Research!! Hillary has had 35 years to ‘find her voice’. We need to be concerned about having our votes counted and other potential voter fraud - whomever we decide to vote for. Black women may be the tide that turns this election. What do any of these candidates plan to do for me? And we need to strategize as Black people how to get our needs met no matter WHO wins!!

#4: Now usually I don’t do this, but, uh, under the advice of legal counsel, I have no comment. Nah, I’m kidding. If I had to choose a Democratic candidate right now, I’m not sure I could, because I, personally, haven’t been impressed with any of them: Clinton keeps talking about ‘experience’ and Obama is all about ‘change’ while Kucinich and Edwards are pretty much left to their own devices and silent voices. In my humble opinion, it’s as if the Democratic nominee for 2008 has already been decided (well, the frontrunners, at least) and I wish the media would be more unbiased in its coverage of the election.

#24: Yes, the New Hampshire Secretary of State’s office says it will conduct a hand recount of the votes in both the Republican and Democratic primaries starting next Wednesday. Rest assured, Concrete Loop will keep you in the loop.

#29: According to Ms. Washington, in a photo essay for last Sunday’s New York Times Magazine, “my politics are probably closer to Dennis Kucinich. I am a huge fan of his; however, Barack Obama is really what this country needs right now.” Check out the photos.

Peace and blessings,

It is interesting we have Roseann putting her political spin on things. She quoted as saying, she will endorse “Hillary (or any woman) over any man for president.” If this is not the most feministic statement, I don’t know what is. What bothered me about Roseann’s statement is she chooses to air Obama’s dirty laundry. Let’s be fair, I can also air out Hillary’s dirty laundry. Hillary, as well, voted for the war. Hillary and her husband supported the NAFTA trade agreement, and were instrumental in opening US companied to foreign competitors— causing US companies to uproot their businesses to other countries.

Here is a quote from Roseann:
…”I am so sorry for sounding like I don’t like Oprah or Obama. I do. Oprah has been a force for good for a long time, and I just got carried away with my preference for Hilary [sic] over Obama. I think she is smarter and better than he is, but either of them is better than any Republican, and will get my vote no matter who ends up on top…”

She thinks, Hillary is smarter and better than Barack Obama…and noticed she only singles him out. How can she make that claim? Have you test both candidates, have you measured their IQ…and since there are many facets to intelligence, how do you measure intelligence? To me, this is a feminist woman speaking. I wouldn’t say Hillary is smarter or better, perhaps, more experience.
And Obama by far is the best orator. So, in what way, is Hillary better than Obama? I heard these two candidates speak. I heard their message and their promise to America. Both of them share similar views. But there is a marketable difference between Obama and Hillary. And if you want to know the difference, you only need to listen to both speeches at the end of the NH primaries. Obama words can uplift an entire crowd. NO question he is preaching a message of Hope and Faith…In these trying times, only an arrogant person ( Roseann) would forsaken hope and faith. I’ve been through Reagan for 8 years, the Bushes for 12years, and the Clintons for 8 years….it is time for a new Regime. The country seems ready for a new face. Say what you want to say, young people are coming out in droves and there messages are clear: they want Obama.

I say all of this above just to say this…if you really understood the political process in this country, then you would know that the entire political institution is a farce. The president elect is only a “puppet.” Those who run and control this country, do so in shadows.. If you want to know, who really runs this country, then follow the money trail.

In a capitalistic system, money is power…and Federal Reserve Bank is the true power in this country ( and even the world). The way i see it, you can elect Hillary or Obama…but, their “will” is subservient to the “will” of the FRB.

Now, your assigment…go research the FRB…and find out, which elite familes run the FRB ( Federal Rersever Bank)… They are the true president and policy makers of this world.

I really dont comment on the political stuff but um it’s mighty interesting what some of you guys are saying. I’m not going to put anyone on blast or anything like that but if you once was a fan of obama, and now your not really sure anymore, find a way to get back on track because i heard this man speak and he sounds as if he can really make a change in the world that old gray head bush messed up. I’m not saying all of it can be true, because candidates can lie, well actually they do lie but sometimes they can bring change. We have all seen what bush has done.lol To be quite honest i was really into both candidates (hilary clinton and barack obama), I think mostly clinton but after i witness her break down i notice that she’s kind of weak. A president should show that they’re strong and they got it all in control, not breakdown in front of billions of people on national television. I know you should show people your human and all but dont show your weak. well people who dont agree with my comment can…………. um just dislike my comment, but its just my opinion.

i think that it is very ignorant of people to “bash” candidates without supporting their claims with valid reasons. how in the world can you in one breath say “obama is a puppet” and in the next say “hillary is the best” but not provide reasoning for either reasons? #58. you sound dumb as “SCUM” the end. i wish that i could vote because obama would surely have my vote. i am a 15 year old african american woman & i think that the simple fact that obama has faith and hope makes him a lot better than most candidates. statistics and facts can only get you so far. “statistically” we should have BEEN out of iraq. says who??? the people with “experience” the fact that obama is new makes him much more appealing because hsi opinions have not yet been completely tarnished by many things that can affect choices made by people who have “experience” i believe that barak obama would be a breath of fresh air to the united states and if he stands next to his beliefs of faith and hope he will surely win this election.

Here are the reasons why Roseanne”s “opinions” have no validity:

1. Being married to the president does not equal experience: Hillary Rodham Clinton has no bearing on running this country during the Clinton Administration because she was not the president, Bill was. Now rather or not she advised him is neither here or there, but at the same time we voted for BILL not Hillary. The only experience Hillary has is being a Senator which last time I checked was the exact position that Barack Obama has. She graduated from law school, so did Obama. So, correct me if Im wrong, but for as Im concerned they are on the exact same level for as experience. The only time you are in an presidential election and have had experience, chances are, you have already been elected in one term.

2. Oprah Winfrey can vote or endorse anyone she chooses, not because she is billionaire, but because she is just like any other American citizen who has the right to vote for anyone he or she chooses. . If she has voted or endorsed republicans in the past, so what? its her choose. She has publicly said she has voted across all political lines (democratic, republican, and independent. She is also not the be all and end all of all American women. I think women can and I know some who have made their decision on who they are going to vote for without Oprah’s assistance.
If she wants to vote for Obama just because he is black, whats the problem with that? White people do it all the time. Oh I forgot, many white people forget that they are also a RACE. So when they vote for someone of their skin color, its like whatever, but when black folks do, its a race issues. Whatever. If Oprah was going to endorse and vote for hillary clinton, people would have said “Oh, she is pulling the gender card” So what is she suppose to do, vote for an animal.

So Roseanne once upon a time, you had a great sitcom, I even like to look at the reruns, but pls sit down and shut up. Also, spare us your apologies, if anything own up to them, dont go backing down now. Woman up!
