POLITICAL ROUND UP: SIMMONS, CHOPRA, & CHAVIS WANT ANSWERS / HUCKABEE COMMENT TAKES HEAT / HUNTER DROPS OUT
Sunday, January 20, 2008

Hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, self-help guru Deepak Chopra and civil rights leader Benjamin Chavis want answers from our Presidential hopefuls.
The trio sent an open letter to the (then) eleven Democratic and Republican candidates still in the race for nomination asking them six questions on issues ranging from diversity to the environment, reducing poverty in America and ending the war in Iraq.
The letter promises to post whatever answers they receive on the internet. I wonder if they forgot about Mike Gravel (Democrat) and Alan Keyes (Republican).
HUCKABEE COMMENT TAKES HEAT

Presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee is taking heat from members of the gay community over recent comments he made during an interview with beliefnet.com.
When asked:
“Is it your goal to bring the Constitution into strict conformity with the Bible? Some people would consider that a kind of dangerous undertaking, particularly given the variety of biblical interpretations.”
Huckabee replied:
“Well, I don’t think that’s a radical view to say we’re going to affirm marriage. I think the radical view is to say that we’re going to change the definition of marriage so that it can mean two men, two women, a man and three women, a man and a child, a man and animal. Again, once we change the definition, the door is open to change it again. I think the radical position is to make a change in what’s been historic.”
This is not Huckabee’s first time under fire for comments on homosexuality. In Kids Who Kill, his 1998 book which examines causes of the increase of juvenile violence in the nation, he acquainted homosexuality with illicit behavior.
“It is now difficult to keep track of the vast array of publicly endorsed and institutionally supported aberrations — from homosexuality and pedophilia to sadomasochism and necrophilia,” he wrote.
According to Huckabee’s campaign, he is merely saying that he believes marriage should be between a man and a woman.
DUNCAN HUNTER DROPS OUT

California Rep. Duncan Hunter, ended his bid for the White House Saturday night.
According to a media alert from his campaign’s website:
Today we end this campaign. The Nevada caucuses reflecting only 2% of the vote for me. I ran the campaign exactly the way I wanted to, and at this point not being able to gain traction in conservative states of Nevada and South Carolina, it’s time to allow our volunteers and supporters to focus on the campaigns that remain viable.
With only a little more than a million dollars, making it the least financed Republican campaign, Hunter’s campaign never really got off the ground. He adds:
The failure of our campaign to gain traction is mine and mine alone. But we have driven the issues of national security, the border fence, the emergence of China and the need to reverse bad trade policy. Because of that, this campaign has been very worthwhile, and for the Hunter family, a lot of fun.

Fuck a Huckabee. Do NOT compare homosexuality to bestiality, pedophilia or necrophilia. I respect everyone who wants to revolve their whole life around a man who COULD have suffered a hypnagogic experience and 2000 years later happens to have millions of followers following his HUMAN ideas and ideals… But I and many others don’t. So do NOT mix your beliefs and religion with the law.

The problem with the world is that we are way too divided. In one way or another, we pit this group of people against the other group of people: white against black, gay against christian, muslim against the majority of the USA, atheists against believers, men against women, just to name a few. How can we as people ever stand together if we perpetuate that kind of mindset?

Mike Huckabee is right! What do you mean don’t compare homosexuality to beastiality? Do homosexual not use rats and other preverse acts for sexual gratification? He is totally right and legalizing homosexual “marriage” will open the flood gates to other groups who feel they were “born that way” as with men who want to marry multiple women or men, men who feel they “always” had as sexual attraction to children and should be able to marry them. There is a sick group who feels that having sex with a child is not harmful but beneficial to the child. They really believe this and feel they too were born this way. Some people feel what harm is it to have sex with their cow, sheep, horse, etc. because they too were born that way. Everybody will rationalize the perverted things that they want to do on the coat tails of whoever gets their way first. We have to preserve whats pure and true in this world or else all chaos is going to happen. If you fall for anything, you will fall for everything.

I 100% agree with Gina, a group divided will never solve the real issues at hand. I think its sad that people are still prejudice against gays especially African Americans and other races that have been oppressed by another, you want people to treat you equally yet you want to oppress someone else, turns my stomach, and I’m sure it makes Martin Luther King “turn in his grave”…Homosexuality is not interspecies, it is between two ADULT HUMANS of the same sex, and it is not the same as having sex with a child or another species of animal, that is pedophilia & Bestiality, whether they be a man messing with a boy or girl or a woman messing with a boy or girl, these are very different things, and should be treated as such. *Shakes head @ Ignorance*

It’s so funny to me how many ppl are up in arms over gays being allowed to get married. So what if they do get married, how does that change the price of rice? As in, how is that going to affect you personally? I believe that people should do what they want to do. Freedom is freedom in all aspects right? If Huckabee or any other radical Christians out there are worried about gays’ mortal souls, they should enlighten them as to what to do, and leave them to make their own choice. The Lord gave us free will to do as we want, why would we go against that and force ppl to do what we think is right? It’s up to God to judge and to punish, not us. I am a christian and i am straight, I beleive gays should get married. If straight ppl can get married and divorced mutliple times in their life, what about gay couples that have been committed for years? It’s ridiculous that in this day and age gayd would not be allowed to the same benefits as the idiots out there who get married then get divorced the next day. If huckabee and anyone else is so worried about the institution of marriage, they might want to turn their bible thumping rhetoric on those people. Especially those in the public eye.

It consistently amazes me at how ignorant people can be when it comes to “homosexuality”.
For one, i totally agree with above, you should NEVER mix religion and beliefs with the LAW. PERIOD! To tell 2 people they cannot get married b/c of their sexual prefrence is PREJUDICE. PERIOD. There is no way around it. And how DARE he compare homosexuality to beastiality and predophiles. Like are you fucking kidding me?!?!?
And to the person above. Maybe people arent born gay, but please believe its not something they choose! It’s most definitly not a choice. You ask any gay man if he had a choice to be straight or gay and 9 times out of 10 he’d say straight. Who would choose that life style you fucking moron! To have people telling you your going to hell everyday, to not having the same priviledges as a heterosexual, little shit that we just take for granted like holding hands in public with our girlfriend/boyfriend without getting strange looks. Mothers and Fathers sending their child to therapy b/c they think that its something that they may “Grow out of”. Disappointing your mother b/c she knows NOW her only son won’t be having grand kids. People have no IDEA how difficult it is, to walk in this world today and be a gay man!
And #17 is just about as ignorant as Huckabee! Like what the fuck are you talking about. Any person who would use a rat for sexual gratification is sick. That has NOTHING to do with their sexuality you dumb broad.
And see shit like that, those are the type of ignorant things people think of a gay person and assume, when i have never even THOUGHT about using any type of animal or anything like that in sexual acts. People are fucking IDIOTS!!
I’m sorry but to me, if you tell 2 men you cant get married you might as well tell a black person they cant sit at the front of the bus. Tell a woman she cant be CEO of a company. It’s PREJUDICE and your beliefs or your religion is not a good enough argument! The bible says this and that…well what if i don’t believe in the bible? Then what? Now whats your argument? Exactly.
As as for opening the flood gates to other out of the box things. Look we all have common sense. A man marrying a dog does not compare to any way shape of form to 2 men getting married. And thats ALL im going to say about that.

I, too, agree with what most of Huckabee said. I don’t agree with the comparison of pediphilia and homosexuality. But I think we should be careful when we support freedom because such freedom would allow man to marry child, animal or three women. Freedom is a convenient argument when we have our own agenda, but we must keep in mind of the harm such freedom might cause.

For those of you people agreeing with Huckabee to bring the Constitution and the Bible into one accord, I have five words for you: SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE.
And for the rest of you who have apparently gotten a personal phone call from God himself to pass judgment on others whose lifestyles and beliefs are different than your own: ….Oh wait, you DIDN’T get that phone call! None of us have the right to judge or condemn, even if you think you have verse after verse to back you up.
Live and let live, guys. Homosexuality compared to beastiality?? Come on! And the argument that if you allow same-sex marriage that it will lead to man-animal unions is RIDICULOUS. That same slippery-slope argument was used when blacks were fighting for equal rights. I mean, the same Constitution that some of you are fighting to uphold at one point claimed that blacks were considered to only be 3/5ths of a person. Should that have been upheld to? SMH at all the ignorance…

And as far as #37 with the Separation of Church and State.. I do believe that this country was built with laws and rules based upon God, and I just really cannot imagine what will happen if we stray away from that. Hucakbee is dead wrong and just an idiot to compare homosexuality to beastiality. There are plenty straight people who practice beastiality. It has nothing to do with being gay but more so that the person is sick in the head.
I am tired of people talking about procreation in terms of why gay marriage should not happen. Not all (married/unmarried) heterosexual couples can have children. There are plenty of infertility issues or maybe they just don’t want children so that is an invalid argument.
Another thing, not everyone is gay or will turn gay because of this. People are acting like it is the end of the world because all these gay people will become rampant and outnumber the straight population and no one will be able to procreate.
ps. sorry in advance for my grammar and/or spelling

What kills me though is half of the black people on CL who bash gays because of who they are, are the first ones to support R. Kelly who is a pedophile. I’ve heard plenty of black people say “I’ll support R.Kelly” or “It’s the white man trying to bring him down” or “I’ll still buy his music”. When I was in High School I had friends who were Christians and they were against homosexuality. They would say things like they would disown their child if they were to be gay. I don’t know how anybody could do that to their own flesh and blood. With all of these comments about gay people “committing a sin” It’s no wonder why there are so many black men on the D.L.

personally, b/c i’m a black person who has been discriminated against, i don’t think i should be discriminating against others. i mean the church used to use to bible to say slavery was ok. have we forgotten about that? but i guess at the end of the day, history repeats itself and just like blacks were oppressed and the church didn’t give a sh**, now we’re oppressing gays and the church again doesn’t give a sh** but ppl are too dumb, prejudiced, close-minded etc. to see that. the main issue is that the church hence the Bible is separate from the state so why is the bible being brought up in the lawmaking process

Homosexuality is wrong according to a majority of interpretations of the bible. On America’s money it says “In GOD We Trust”. If America and a majority of the people (this is a democrcy right?) actually agre a GOD exists and a majority of those people think the bible is right. Then what is there a discussion for.
Several years ago Ellen Degeneres was not allowed on television because of her overt open sexulity. what changed? How did they convince our minds that if you no longer accept homosexuality and have a dep sense of spiritual morality there is something wrong with you and you need diversity training. The media brainwashed a majority of people in a short period of time. Yet nooses can still appear on the cover of GOLDWEEK. hahahaha. When you take GOD and his word and morality out of the occasion there is the threat of becoming too liberal. Just like getting drunk is a sin, and leads to bad behaviour, just like illicit sex, and unprotected sex between two unwed people can lead to a child that grows up without a responsible father (which is accepted as the norm, now in our - black - community). A sin is a sin is a sin.
And I am willing to give scriptural reference to back up the things I have said. Only to those who believe in GOD and the bible. I will use any version of the bible they have.
Too many people want to follow GOD’S word when they want to or see the benefits but if they are doing something wrong and it is not condoned they flip.

And to all the people who disagree withpeople who are against homosexuality. Stop using what we may or may not listen to, other sins, other opinions and other issues like racism, sexism and general ignorance be compared from one subject to another. This is about homosexualiy and homosexualiy alone. People’s opinions on R Kelly, bad rap music and anything else is not justified or relative to this subject.
Homosexuality as an act is a sin, it is in the bible point blank. Anyone who wants to re write the bible or claim the bible was wrong for that or interprets the bible incorrectly. So be it.
Was Huckabee too stong in his condemnation? Maybe. But don’t shoot the messenger. Don’t frigging vote for him. But not all candidates are talking 100% bullshit. I bet there is some truth in all of them.

Back that up with scripture and kindly let me tear that reasoning down for you.
Not a debate but simply I know how and where you arrived and that thinking. The old testament law is not for us. JESUS died for our sins and now everyone who follows HIS teachings and believe in HIM are obeying GOD”S law.
As for Muslims I am not sure of their teching in full, but any writings that allow men to have more than one wife (so long as he can afford them and treat them with the up mot respect) I assume frowns on homosexuality.

I see many problems with your argument…
“Homosexuality is wrong according to a majority of interpretations of the bible. On America’s money it says “In GOD We Trust”. If America and a majority of the people (this is a democrcy right?) actually agre a GOD exists and a majority of those people think the bible is right. Then what is there a discussion for.”
I hate to burst your biblical bubble, but homosexuality existed long before the Bible was written. Maybe if you would expand your reading material to include more than the Bible, you would know that and you would be able to present a more well-rounded argument. Just because the majority of Americans may believe that a God or a spiritual being does exist, it doesn’t mean that they’re all Christians. There is a big difference between being ‘religious’, and being spiritual. We are supposed to be a country that practices religious freedom, a person can be Christian, Jewish, Muslim or they can choose not to believe in God at all. I personally do not feel that a religious leader (no matter what religion) should be president because to me it is a violation of the separation of church and state. There is no doubt that for someone like Huckabee, his religious beliefs will be influential in the laws that would be created or changed in this country. In a country that prides itself on religious freedom, I think that’s a dangerous thing.
If Christianity and the Bible were definite sources of “truth” to how we should be living our lives, yet Christians can’t even completely agree amongst each other, which is why there are different subgroups within Christianity (Baptist, Catholic, Protestant, Seventh-Day Adventist).
So be it.
No, this isn’t just about homosexuality. It’s about people dictating to others what acts are sinful, yet those same people are probably engaging in other behaviors that the Bible would deem “sinful”. It’s hypocrisy, “point blank” as you said. So, are you going to say that “one act is more sinful than the other” or that “a sin is a sin”, if I ask whether you had ever engaged in premarital sex? You’d probably give me the first response…

It’s the PEOPLE who voted for her. Get your angry suspicious mind out of here. Recognize. Hillary is here to make a difference backed with the knowledge of how the system works. YES I recognize that racism is still prevalent today, but ain’t nothing racial about this shit. EVERYONE has the opportunity to vote, so if you vote Obama DO IT. If you vote Ms. Hill, DO IT. Ain’t no one playing with the votes, it just happens that more people voted on Ms. Hill. Recognize, boy.
And my thoughts on Hucks… Honestly, I’m spiritual, but I don’t have anything with religion. If it works for you, go ahead and do your thing. But do NOT force religion onto people by integrating it with the LAW. If gay people want to get married, let them. It ain’t hurting NOBODY. And I am not going to sit my ass here idolizing a man’s word that could have stemmed from a bad dream. Logic, common sense, acceptance, love are the keys to a peaceful civilization. Great response, totally agree with you. I, too, consider myself to be more spiritual rather than ascribing to a religious belief system. MyPOV: Exactly, and that is why we are destined for greatness. We see further. We see past that. We see other possibilities. We don’t limit ourselves to one man’s ideas and ideals. Because what if that’s not the truth?
I wonder, if ALL knowledge would go away, and every written text about the knowledge from the past was GONE… I wonder if we would end up with the same religions and the same beliefs. Would someone else step up for us to idolize 2000 years later? What will be left standing? Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, or science? Educate yourselves. Think about it. Don’t quote others. Quote that voice in your head called common sense.
The main lesson we are left with: Love yourself and love others, respect yourself and respect others, work together to find the real meaning and truth of our lives.

————————————————-
No need to get the name calling, or I would just assume you just a hater and that my opinion effected your life.I’m not telling you to follow what I said, I was basically stating what I BELIEVE in, which mean I, I , and only I believe what I believe in.And if you READ what I said, I said I don’t care for homosexuality because people going to do what they want to do.Nobody cares if I’m a hetero, nobody cares if I’m BI,which is the only reason why I stated that and I don’t care what you do either.I’m not living nobody’s life BUT MINES.It’s discrimination, not prejudice (pre-judgement) which can not be acted upon it, so a woman can be a CEO, and black person can sit on the front of the bus and if they can’t it is DISCRIMINATION.
And I see so much generalizations up in here that everything become invalid.Like others stated I’m much more into my spirit than religion.Religion is a practice. But Hukabee is just a traditionalist that doesn’t know that times changed. But the law is always going to be tied up with beliefs anyway, I mean IN GOD WE TRUST is on the money (man-made) we spend. It is what it is.

72: That’s a wonderful example: Black people weren’t able to sit in front of the bus. Gay people can’t get married. Being black or being gay, you can’t change that. It’s part of who you are.
I think being gay can come from both, be it birth or the environment. Regardless, there’s nothing wrong with it in my eyes. I’m not hurt by someone else’s sexual preference and neither should anyone else.
I don’t know what the ‘real’ definition of spiritual is, but to me it means that my being, the individual that is me, my process of thinking, is something higher than the physical, my spirit. And in order to keep that spirit clean and healthy, I must do things that bring love, joy and happiness to myself and to others. But that’s my own interpretation.

I’m surprised at how convenient Christianity has become for some people these days…you get to pick and choose which tenets to live by…it’s almost as if religion can be customized to be “one size fits all”…
D. Lani, the story in the Bible that you are referring to Sodom and Gomorrah, and there are varying views as to why the city was destroyed. The reasons range from inhospitality of new guests in the city to sexual immorality (which includes PROMISCUITY, BEASTIALITY, RAPE, and ADULTERY). All of these things occur today, especially promiscuity, so if you are really concerned with the U.S. being destroyed, perhaps we should be campaigning for monogamy and faithfulness first.
Before we all go around condemning others for something that, in all honesty, is NONE OF OUR BUSINESS, how about we take a look at our own lives. Are you living “free of sin?” It’s like my grandmother used to say: Sweep around your own front door before you sweep around mine.

Although nature does provide the obvious evidence that men and women belong together, based on their biological differences and connections, it still bothers me to hear someone actually compare Homosexuality to bestiality. What ignorance…
So many hypocritical people on this site, justifying the bible as accurate, something that was written centuries ago. I believe in biblical errancy. They try to justify that the authors of the many books in the bible were inspired by God as they wrote those books. And yet they still commit so many sins but point their fingers at others. Humans are sick.
But did anyone stop to think that the bible’s authors were biased toward many of the issues they talked about. Meaning we’re only getting once side of the story.
You have to remember, MAN wrote the bible. Maybe inspired by God b/c there is indeed great wisdom in the bible and i believe in some parts, but some things just dont sit right with me.
I dont allow religion to hold me down b/c Religion is MAN-made. I consider myself a spiritual person.

S. THanks the story was slipping my mind!! And you’re right the cities were filled with a whole bunch of different types of sin.. I’m not campaigning for anything, I don’t believe Huckabee or just any one person can change the way America is headed without a much needed miracle, I just wanted to give my views on how America is looking today.
I’m not even saying that this country should align jointly with the bible because like stated before, its way too old. God doesn’t expect for us to stay in the same time frame from thousands of years ago, thats impossible. There were changes in the bible (i.e Old/New testament) and there’s obviously going to be changes now. I believe that we just need to keep up the morals from the bible.
Like I said before I don’t judge ANYBODY I leave that up to God. We all sin thats a given, so none of us has the place to judge.

D.Lani, I think I understood what you were saying, but my point was that we cannot know for sure what happened or didn’t happen, even though it’s in the Bible, we (as human beings) have no way of knowing that it’s true. PLEASE MARRIAGE ISNT WORSE THAN IT USED TO BE!!!!!!! This is the first time in history where people can marry who they want to, when they want to, even interracially it’s easier to marry the one you love that doesn’t look like you. Back then it was nearly IMPOSSIBLE to divorce, doesn’t mean the atmosphere was better, no. It’s just that women were stuck cause they had no money, so how could she leave with 5 children to raise by herself, bills to pay and no job? Not to mention a divorced woman was tagged NO GOOD cause she “couldn’t keep a man”. Then even when men wanted to divorce there was this whole society pressure, reputation even at his job. But they could have all the mistresses they wanted and get away with it because their women wives HERE TO STAY, had no other choice. The high rate of divorce is because people now have the possibility to get out of a toxic relationship. People used to be STUCK for 30 years and most times with people THEY DID NOT LOVE cause the family had arranged the marriage for ECONOMIC REASONS. And don’t get me started on 12 year old girls who were married to 40 year old men, and it still happens in many countries. In Africa, in India, in Arabic Countries and East Asia, in Russia, ARRANGED MARRIAGE is the most common type of marriage and that’s why they LAST more than in developped countries, women have no possibility of leaving even when they’re beaten up, men don’t really have the option to leave either but they don’t care cause they easily get away with having multiple mistresses.
I’d rather be in a country where I can divorce and be at peace than stay stuck in a marriage with someone that I don’t love and who doesn’t love me either.
Marriage wasn’t MORE SACRED back in the day. On one hand it doesn’t last as long as it used to, but on the other hand it has MORE MEANING than it used to cause people get more and more married out of LOVE and LOVE only.

Lullaby: Yes! I was just about to speak on that! Being with someone you don’t love but are stuck with because as a woman you’re supposed to stay at home and look out for the kids, despite of what you feel? That equals as a sacred thing back in the day? To me it doesn’t.
That still doesn’t mean people today should go marrying people just like that though. Just have a relationship if anything. Marry when you’ve been in a relationship for years and are sure that you want to be with that person for a while, not just a coupla months or weeks even. Unless you wanna spend all that green on a lot of ‘perfect’ weddings lol.
And on the gay marriage thing… Everyone should be able to.

Sorry I didnt respond earlier but I went to sleep shotly after posting….
Anyhoo…..
let me address some of your comments: Yes Homosexuality and wide variety of other sins were around before the bible was writen as we know it now. What does that mean? That every sin that ocured before the bibe was writen is allowed because GOD did not decree it a sin? What was the relevance of that fact/statement?
Actually I will go one step further. Give me one religion just one that actually condones homosexuality, or even turns a blind eye to it, one religion or spiritual teching that says it is okay for two consenting adults of the same sex to become sexually intimate.
I BET YOU CANNOT.
Yet when people such as myself give all kinds of biblical spiritual and documented reference to prove (in our minds and beliefs) that homosexuality is wrong, you all claim we are crazy based on the evidence we give.
Why do you do that? GOD speaks to us (we believe) through our teachings. Who or what force is speaking to you to tell you that you can sleep with who you want or when you want because you simply get a “feeling” or ‘desire”. Many people have very sordid illicit and “wrong” impulses and hve to control them, that is sin trying to define and influence them.
And finally….. YES I did have premarital sex. For which I have asked GOD to forgive me. Are you one of those ignorant people who think that because I committed the sin of premarital sex and there are many continuing to do so, that means we should continue to do so and that all other sins are justified? How broad sworded and defiant of our GOD’S laws!

To #89 Nova:
Yes, homosexuality existed before man introduced their selfwritten Bibles/Al-Qur’ans/Torahs/Tanakhs influenced by a hypnagogic experience (in other words, the voices heard in their dreams) to the world.
And yes, pretty much everyone of those man written books condone homosexuality as something that pretty much sends you right down to ‘hell’.
Yes, you are referencing to bilical documents written by men and their human ideas and beliefs, opinions. Not god’s, in my eyes. Has it ever crossed your mind that their god might as well be the voice they heard in a dream? Or what men from the past considered as their own ‘logic’, ‘common sense’ or way of thinking? Have you ever experienced a hypnagogic experience? I’ve heard so many people claiming they have heard god speaking to them, when in reality it was a hypnagogic experience. Look it up on wikipedia. Please do so. I’m not claiming your crazy, if that’s what you believe in. I don’t. I respect your perspective, so please respect mine.
The force speaking to me, as i said, is logic and common sense. Just because I don’t believe in god does not mean I’m a ’sinner’, it doesn’t mean I’m a bad person. I do many things to help my fellow human beings and bring joy and happiness just like anyone else. Will I go to hell because of that?

Homosexuality is a bond between two of the same species with the same level of thinking.
Homosexuality is a bond between two adults who have enough knowledge and common sense to know what love is about, not a child who’s young and learning about it.
Homsexuality is a bond between two beings involving reciprocal feelings, not a living being and a deceased being.
Then, HOW can anyone compare homosexuality to bestiality, pedophilia or necrophilia? Religion, science, power and money will spawn revolution and suffering, and in turn might cause the end of the world.

Dear VINA @ 93
I fully understand you and completely agree with your sensibilities. My opinions are all embedded in my faith and what I believe. The truth is. I believe in a GOD who sent HIS son JESUS to die for all of mankind’s sins. I believe that HE walked on water when HE was on earth. These things by definition are hard for some people to realize. But here is the thing. Many people (and my whole argument lies with these people specifically) who believe in one GOD and the bible MUST KNOW that homosexuality is wrong. It is written in the same bible they believe in.
As for people (like yourself I assume) who discredit the bible. Or at least have “issues” with its legitamacy. Meditate/Pray/focus on nothingness become one with yourself and free your mind of thought, and in that absolute silence and serene calm, allow your conciousness speak to you. And in that find the answers and I guarantee you that no matter what you call it whether “hypnogogic” a “trance like state” etc etc, the GOD I believe in or the greater force than ourselves will reveal some form of HIMSELF to you and the truth will be revealed.
America is a very young country. If we are to believe what has been documented. Christopher Columbus and that whole fabrication. America became “civilized” only 500 - 600 years ago (or somthing like that), so this is a very “brave new world” so to speak. So a lot of the social developments like a black president, woman president are not milestones anywhere else around the world, it is that us as America is finally shaking its own inbred bigoted view of things. I have heard of some blacks voting for Obama simply because he is black. How ignorant! It should be about good leadership, not colour of skin. I say all that to say that many people align themselves with Bush, bcause of his religious point of view, and embedded in that is that he absolutely despises gays (wrong I know) but his point of view nevertheless.

As for your wondering whether or not I’m ignorant (which, coming from a so-called peace-loving Christian, I would think that you could come up with a more constructive response than that), I think that ignorance may lie in blindly believing in an ideology when you have no concrete proof of its absolute truth, or never considering that there are other possibilities that may contradict what you have been taught to believe. Isn’t this what you claim people of the faith do? Where is the respect and tolerance for people of the book? All I hear is how Christians do this or Christians say that, Christians are hypocrites, Christians are not better than anyone else. Well, before you point a finger, watch your thumb that will point back at you.
Many Christians and other people of faith are not perfect, last time I checked no one is, and they do show respect and tolerance for all faiths, even those who don’t believe in anything. Many Christians do not proselytize, but simply share their faith through their actions or if asked. Many Christians open up their homes and do show love toward people the best way they know how. As do many Muslims and Jews whose holy book does not agree with homosexuality either. If you did not know this you can read the tanakh and the surahs of the qu’ran, or simply look at the penalties for homosexuality in Islamic countries under sharia law.
I say all of this to say that you can respectfully disagree with homosexuality and still show respect and love and kindness to all people.

Well, I wasn’t really taking offense to what you said, I was more so being sarcastic about it lol. It’s not always easy to tell the tone of a person’s speech when they’re posting something online rather than talking face to face. I respect your views, and as I said before we can agree to disagree.

Jesus God, some days I flat out get tired of being black.
Here you ignoramuses are, spewing homophobic rhetoric, and quoting Huuckabee to support it. Do you not know that Huckabee is a card-carrying white supremacist who just two or three days ago was down in South Carolina courting racist white evangelicals who hate queers, but hate your dumb black asses more?
Giving them a thumbs-up for keeping the confederate flag hanging over the capitol, he said, ” “If somebody came to Arkansas and told us what to do with our flag, we’d tell them what to do with the pole. That’s what we’d do.”
That pole sounds a lot like the broken broomstick a white New York cop shoved up the anus of Abner Louima, damn near killing him a few years ago. You may not remember Louima, but I guarantee you the Council of Conservative Citizens, the largest white supremacist group in the contry do. And Huckabee has been in bed with them for at least the past 15 years. In 1993, his speech was the highlight of their annual conference.
The Council of Conservative Citizens descended from the White Citizens Councils, the lynchers and rapists who fought integration all over the south, including Arkansas’ Little Rock High School.
Google the Council of Conservative Citizens and read their statement of principles. They say outright that they “oppose all efforts to mix the races of mankind, to promote non-white races over the European-American people through so-called ‘affirmative action’ and similar measures, to destroy or denigrate the European-American heritage, including the heritage of the Southern people, and to force the integration of the races.”
These lowdown dogs get something that you better learn quickget something that you bible thumpers (and, you don’t know jackshit about Jesus either, listening to them jackleg preachers who can barely read their names, much less Matthew, Mark and John

Sorry, I posted accidentally, and that last paragraph is garbled. I’ll write another post tomorrow because I need to calm down and figure out how to succinctly lay out the connections between homophobia, racism, classism, anti-Semitism etc. , so you’ll see why it is in all our interests to stop this senseless hate.
This is so important to me because I am tired of seeing young gays and Lesbians suffering at the hands of ignorant people who use the bible as a weapon. And, you’re wasting your time writing me back scriptures because I read my bible and I got scriptures too. We can start with Leviticus if you like.

if i’m not mistaken:
it is christian to separate church and state. 1. Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s, and 2. there was a point at which citizens attempted to crown Jesus as their king, and he refused. if you truly believe your god is all-powerful, don’t try to get your country to work on his behalf. he absolutely does not need your elected official to accomplish what he sees necessary.
thus, keep your religious belief of marriage as between one man and one woman in your church where you found it. in that forum, it is also okay to liken homosexuality to having sex with animals and dead people. a democratic nation is not the place for that.
also, the constitution does not define marriage as between one man and one woman. thus our president’s recent attempt at putting that in there. different states have different laws governing marriage and who may take part with whom.
governor huckabee wants to INFLICT his PERSONAL views on an entire country that doesn’t 100% agree with him. whether he admits this or not, such is the case.
please understand that this does not condemn or endorse christianity or homosexuality, but states that the two are unrelated and in a political atmosphere need not be mixed. there is someone who believes the opposite of you, and their belief is as valid as yours. leave them alone and vote for what affects YOU.

now, my personal input…
what difference does it make to your heterosexual self if two men get married? why should you vote or even have an opinion?
[likewise, if you don't contain a uterus, do you have any business determining whether women get abortions or not?]

That is the problem. People trying to enforce their religious views on others. This country was founded on religion but still I believe in human rights and the pursuit of happiness.
