POLITICS: BILL CLINTON SAYS OBAMA MIGHT WIN

Bill Clinton said Friday that Barack Obama’s campaign was very impressive, and the Democratic presidential candidate “might win.”

“He’s put together a great campaign. It’s clearly not a fairy tale, it’s real,” Clinton said. “He might win.”

Clinton had called into activist Al Sharpton’s radio show to try to address the controversy over his remarks just before the New Hampshire primary that seemed to say the Illinois senator’s campaign was a “fairy tale.”

On Friday, he said that reference was meant to describe news coverage of Obama’s war vote, and of his campaign, and not the viability of his presidential run.

“I was addressing a specific argument. That doesn’t have anything to do with my respect for him as a person or as a political figure,” said the former president.

But he said black voters should support his wife Hillary Clinton over Obama because “You know where her heart and where her life has been.”

its definitely is NOT a fairy tale. Obama has my vote.

  2. CHILLYPHO

    barack obama WILL win.

  3. keekaboo

ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS RESEARCH AND MAKE AN EDUCATED VOTE…I LOVE OBAMA BUT HE HAS ONLY BEEN A SENTATOR SINCE 2005..AND HE WORKED IN THE GOVERNMENT SINCE 1998….THATS NOT ENOUGH EXPERIENCE TO RUN A COUNTRY…I JUST HOPE EVERYONE REALIZES THAT OUR FUTURE IS IN THIS PEOPLES HAND…SO PICK WISELY

  4. Diamonds & Girls

At this point ANYONE is better than Bush…We’d be better off with a 2 year old in office.

    Barack the vote! =)

  5. JstBReal

I thought Clinton was a great president when he was in office. But it seems he’s somewhat backtracking his statement. First he says Obama might win, then later states that black people should vote for his wife because of her record. Me personally, I think Hillary stands for some great issues as does Barack so I wanna be fair and not just vote for Obama just because he’s black. Either way I’ll be at the polls supporting the best candidate. Anybody better than the buffoon we have in office now lol.

  6. NoVa

I think it would be a shame if people voted for candidates based on race.
Granted the fact that Obama has a unique name, and has so much culture in his family he is very qualifies to interact with people of diferent cultures instead of being closed minded. But listen to this and this is my opinion not something I want to cause a fight on CL…..

many of us (black or otherwise) really don’t care about non americans. Alot of people in this country rided with Bush and his decisions to go and invade other countries because he told us there were toblame for 9/11. Many of us blacks in America are still very blindly patriotic regardless of what this country has done to us.
Barack understands this and wants to change the way we see ourselves and are respresented around the world.

Barack Obama seems to be right now THE ONLY unifying force in politics that can go on Tyra, politic with Jay Z and Kanye, yet present a focused senisble and intelligent standpoint for ALL Americans in the hallowed halls of the US government. Representing many races in the senate, congress etc

There is a very big gap betwen our parent of the NAACP era and US generation X and Y. All they see is the saggy pants, rap videos and the culture surounding hip hop and claim we are lost, but there are so many “hiphop” pundits, intellectuals, bloggers, celebrities and public figures who respect the past do not bring down our culture and bring it up, however tey were raised in today’s enviornment. How many other blogs have gone to the lenthgs of CL and got a Political commentator? (KUDOS CL).

So naaah Barack is not a fairy tale, his is the “greatest story in politics” ever told.

    Just my 6 cents

  7. Yes, I think he will win too. You see the LOOK my man giving old girl in that pic????

  8. Between Bill”s fairy tale” remarks and Hillary trying to minimize the efforts that black civil rights leaders had in the civil rights movements…the Clinton’s can kiss my black ass.

I’ll continue to do my research, but I’m leaning towards Barack at this point.

  9. downhome88

It is refreshing to see that people are not voting just to vote, but are looking at the issues. The way the government is now has a lot of people ruined and it is time for change. I would love to see a minority in the office, but there are still way too much things going on for him to be safe. All the racist things people do and even the other day with the Tiger Woods comment, I don’t think Obama would be safe. I hope that people can realize that a minority is as equal as anyone else, but I don’t think that the US can handle a minority right now.

“She has a plan, not just a good speech. I like that.

I had a classmate in college who was a great speaker. He would always raise his hand in the class with sharp questions and opinions. He was our professor’s fav, and a lot of us admired him because he really can talk. Exam came, and he flunked. Eventually he did not finish his semester. He kind of remind me of someone who can talk so well, yet I’m not sure whether he can deliver.”

    So True.

IF MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR THOUGHT THAT WAY WE’D ALL BE USING COLORED BATHROOMS…

LETS STOP THE SLAVE MENTALITY AND MOVE FORWARD…..IT WILL REQUIRE SELF-SACRIFICE ON OBAMA’S PART, BUT IT’S NECESSARY FOR US TO BREAK THAT GLASS CEILING….

THAT KIND OF FEAR YOU EVOKE IS NOT WHAT WE NEED RIGHT NOW.

oh hush #12, my boyfriend is a free mason and they are some of the most open minded people you can find. yeah you may find some bad apples in the bunch…henry ford…michael richards etc. but for the most part they are great people and i laugh at all the dumb ass conspiracy theories.

  15. Krazy K from DUVAL

    LETS DO IT OBAMA!
if hilary wins, she will try to fine underage smokers $3,000 and is not bringing up enough answers for the environment. Hilary is a senator too! what experience does she have? watching big Willie get blowed? she is a cold person. Obama is a great person, and i have been studying his plans. i don’t want just the fact that he is charismatic sway my vote. So far, I like what he’s saying. And i’m sick of the public dogging out the fact that he’s not ‘black enough.’ What the hell does that mean? he’s bi-racial anyway. So to the white people dogging him out, your dogging yourself out. Some people are so dumb..I guess because he speaks proper english? America is stereotypical and crazy. Go Obama.

  16. Latane

Today Hillary Clinton unveiled a $70 billion economic stimulus package aimed at making it easier for millions of people to pay their mortgages, college loans, and home heating bills. The five-part plan is designed to help homeowners hurt by the housing foreclosure crisis and the projected economic crisis of recession.

    Her plan includes:

**Establishing a $30 billion housing crisis fund to help states and localities deal with the fallout of foreclosures. The federal money could be used to ease the effects of vacant properties with anti-blight programs and helping local housing authorities buy and rent out vacant properties.

**Setting a 90-day moratorium on subprime mortgages of at least five years, or until housing lenders have converted mortgages into loans families can afford. The proposal also would increase the portfolio caps at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

**Providing $25 billion in emergency energy assistance for families facing rising heating bills. While 37 million families are eligible for energy assistance, only 5.6 million, or 16 percent, are slated to receive any aid this winter, the campaign said. She is proposing immediate grants to all 37 million eligible families.

**Providing $10 billion to extend unemployment insurance for those struggling to find work while supporting families.

**Providing $5 billion in energy efficiency by doing such things as giving tax credits to encourage purchases of low emission vehicles and efficient appliances windows and other clean technologies. She also proposes funds to train and put to work people making public buildings more energy efficient.

  17. Dame

No Bill please tell me where Hillary heart has been? And make up your mind will it be Obama or Hillary.

People keep mentioning experience what does that to do with anything. Bush didn’t have any experience and has run the country into the ground.

I hope whoever wins will stop the recession we are headed for. They will spend the 1st four yrs cleaning the mess Bush has made and they hopefully will get re-elected to do more.

  18. Latane

Obama and Clinton both talk about change, but what is Obama doing to make change, what has he propsed to make change? Hillary had made change in the past and is currently putting plans into motion that will make change.

Last time we voted for someone who was likable and because they had good speeches we got George Bush and look where we are now. Obama is all talk and no substance.

  19. Chris Styles

Did anyone see 106&park Friday? BET is such an embarrassment to black people! Why the hell did terrence say that Hilary Clinton is the first female to run for president of the U.S. That last time I check the first female to run for president was Shirley Chisholm, and she was black! And after she ran several other women though not black ran after so what the hell he he talking about? Come on this is BET they should know facts like this and repeat them often, not only during black history month!

  20. @Latane…Hillary’s plan also failed to mention where the whole 70 million dollars is going to come from…I doubt it will appear from thin air

@Chris…damn straight I can barely watch BET anymore with all the ignorance that is expressed

Also isn’t this kind of old news as in almost a week ago…???

  21. YES!!!!

#3 (now this is not necessarily about you, but based on what you wrote, it’s my comment and I’m not bashing you…)

Bill Clinton was a governor people!!!! A governor! He was a nobody before he ran! People back then doubted him because he lacked “experienced” but guess what? he won! So wtf is everyone talking about experience this and that, when you can look at JFK and even our president today, who based his experience on being a governor from Texas and having his daddy be president! So I’m tired of this experience bullshit as an excuse for not voting for Obama if you all are not voting for him based on that, then that’s totally pathetic!!

  22. Wow So It's Like That?

    Very well said Nova #6!

  23. brit

Hate it or love it Mr. Clinton is telling the truth.

  24. @latane

I understand that Hillary has a plan…all I see in this plan is her tossing money at the issue. she is speding, spending, spending…but, who is going to pay, pay, pay.

In her plan, she never proposes a tax cut…under her plan, she will have to raise taxes…and if she does raise taxes, guess who will be affected? The middle/working class.

You see, Hillary is for big goverment…Under her plan, Health care will be managed by big Goverment. I’ve learned a long time that big Goverment is the most wasteful capitalist institution in America. Who do you think pays the goverment employees?…The tax payers.

So, latane, while i understand your argument, you are forgeting the real issue. The issue is not just to throw money at the problems….this country needs a massive restructuring…and to be honest, i have seen Hillary’s vision…I am not that impress.

  25. Reading is Fundamental

@Aikes…This is not old news considering Bill Clinton said it just yesterday (Friday, January 12) on Al Sharpton’s radio show, as stated in the entry.

    Reading is fundamental.

  26. My heart beat plays his favorite song

Latane…. without resolve, anytime there is a post about Hillary or Obama, u go above and beyond to bid for her campaign… good for u, but it will be in vain, because Obama WILL win. Take that to that bank!

  27. Bill Clinton’s comments before the NH primary were very calculated & purposeful. He knew what he was doing & it worked.

  28. AVE ONE

The photog did capture something…it is interesting the way that Obama is looking at Hilary. Even though her face isn’t clear her expression is like “whatever”.

  29. MusicQn

I’m looking at all the candidates before I make a decision. We can’t just look at race or gender when voting but what’s their agenda on the various issues including stopping the attack on lower and middle-class Americans’ pockets. I plan to make my voice heard when the California primaries come Feb 5th. Anyway, whoever wins has a big mess to clean up.

  30. DOB

    This is a hard decision!

I like Obama, but Clinton seems to have some good plans.

I’m not sure where I stand at this point. I’ll keep listening to what they say in the upcoming weeks.

  31. #20: While I agree with your assessment of BET, Shirley Chisholm was the first major party (Democratic) candidate for president in 1972. 100 years prior to that, Victoria Woodhull of the Equal Rights Party, was a presidential candidate with Frederick Douglass as her vice president.

    Peace and blessings,

  32. DALESHIA FROM THE BRONX

okay lets not forget that we should not be voting merely on ‘experience’.. as you can see where that got us last time…. think about that..

secondly, we need a president that has unifying power which is the only way to get anything done… have we forgoten about congress… the people who actually pass the presidents proposed bills…..
Hilary has shown us that she can cross the politcal barriers and capture republican support… and Obama has….

and Hillary has a bad rep with many of the other senators ever since she took o the new york state senate office…
as of right now i’m torn in between the 2. i like both of they plans.. but i just. think that obama will actually be MORE able to get his plan underway…

lstly..all the states that are having congressionl elections this fall need to start doing their research.. because if the democrats lose power in the house and or senate…. and hillary we to win.. she’ll just be sittin’ in office for 4 years doodling… so i’m continuing to watch this….and i hope everyone is doing the same…its about unifying a largely separated country…. also.. PLEASE GO OUT AND ACTUALLY VOTE…

  33. juju

WHY DO PEOPLE THINK HILLARY HAS SO MUCH EXPERIENCE!!!!!!
BEING THA FIRST LADY DO NOT COUNT!!!!!!!!DO NOT GET FOOLED BY THAT SH*T!!!!!!!!OBAMA IS EXPERINCED!!

  34. MusicQn

@30 I like Obama too. They have another debate next week in LA so I plan to watch to see how they handle themselves.

  35. Lissa

that picture is so intense…. but you know? either way the election goes, its gonna be a BIG change. A GOOD change. I’m ready

  36. Ara

Bill Clinton is using reverse psychology now, but I still say ………..BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  37. Latane

Actually Hillary’s plan is to help middle and lower middle class families, her plan would increase taxes on people making more then $200,000 a year and wouldn’t necessarily affect those of us not making that much money.

I love her ideas with lowering interest rates for college students with loans, because as a college student myself that would help immensely and her plan for providing $3500 to families a year to help with college costs.

  38. DALESHIA FROM THE BRONX

yeah so true # 29… whoever wins has a hot ass mess to clean up…yo thanks bush! 8 years of breaking us down to vietnam era… great job.. but your time has fucking expired.. take your as back to texas…. yo.. i so want democrats to win texas… that’ll be a huge slap in the face..

yo J. Dakar.. when was the last time democrats actually won the electorial votes of texas..if ever?

  39. #39: The last time the Democrats won Texas was in 1976 with Jimmy Carter.

    Peace and blessings,
    J. Dakar

  40. @latane..

i can promise you the world also….but, a promise is a far cry from reality. The reality is, she would need to tax more than the small wealthy minority to cover her spending demands. Right now as it stands…35% of your taxable income goes to goverment. 8% goes to SS and Medicare. Now, let’s say you retire and you are about to recieve your SS check…anywhere from 50% to 80% of your social security benefits will be taxed. You have state tax, sales tax…and every other taxation system devised to suck money from your pocket.

The real issue is simple…we are living in an ultra competive global market. In order for american companies to compete with the world, it needs to find cheap, quality labor. Plenty of the quality paying jobs have left to overseas…do you know whose plan it was to globalized US market place?…the clintons. And nohing is being done to resolve this issue.

You see, here lies the problem…prices of goods and services will continue to increase, while the pay rate for the average american remain the same. This is the real issue. What cost a dollar yesterday, now cost 2 dollars today…and 3 dollars tomorrow, while your salary remains the same. I don’t believe in taking money out of my pocket to pay for more shit that will make some long nose fucker rich in goverment.

  41. WHAT?

THOSE VOTING FOR OBAMA ONLY BECAUSE HE IS BLACK ARE MAKING A HUGE MISTAKE. THIS IS YOUR FUTURE AT STAKE. DO YOUR RESEARCH AND EDUCATE YOURSELF ABOUT BOTH OBAMA AND CLINTON. THERE IS NO COMPARISON…..HILLARY IS MORE QUALIFIED.

  42. roundbrown

Yeah I’m with you JuJu. Michael Baisden’s show the other day pointed out that Mrs. Clinton does not have that much experience herself. Being in the white house and running the country are two different things. But I still haven’t made up mind on who is the better candidate yet.

  43. Dame

    Nevermind I see it now

  44. In the picture Obama is thinking……”old b!tch”
And Hillary is thinking……..”what is that Negro looking at”

    Yeah, I’m a mind reader :-)

  45. @ Daleisha, I don’t think the Democrats have won that vote in TX since the 70′s. Before that, believe it or not, TX was Democratic state!

  46. Karee

I was all for Hillary Clinton until I heard Barack Obama speak. I really think the Clintons have the record to back them up but Obama seems to be a man of integrity and enthusiasm. I would like to see Obama/Clinton running together in office; that would be the best of both worlds

  47. Naw Son

    Hello All,
Have we gone mad. Barack is the best choice for Presidency. Why? because he is not your typical candidate. You ever say to yourself, “I could run the country better then that”? We all have, he’s that difference. Not blinded by Washington’s politics of one hand washes the other. He has not made that many alliances with big businesses like Bush and Hilary Clinton has. He is, as or right now, clean. I don’t think if we wait until he has 10 plus years in the business of government, that he will be the same candidate that we see before us now. He could actually go from logically thinking to dumb quack, sitting in congress listening to the same jargon daily. I suggest we vote with sense. Hilary is tainted, we all know that. She has taken a shot at us Americans with that fake crying display, thinking we are dumb enough to buy into her being an emotional, pms-ing, mother and wife, that just wants to bring the country back to it’s glory. That’s just a swipe I can not deal with and if you think the rest of the world, that is light years behind us, see that we pick off of emotional displays, they will definitely blow up another building knowing we are just compassionate suckers.

i’m voting 4 hillary clinton obama does 2 have a plan and i’m not voting 4 him, i dont care what his race is he is not recieving my vote

    Mrs. Clinton 4 president 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  49. americans for change

Hillary and Bill respresent politics as usual, text book political genius. They will say what they need to say for what ever audience they are speaking to. But putting Race aside. Think about Katrina, how was the “poor” treated, not to include Blacks in that equation. Where did all the money go that Bush 1 and Clinton suppose to have raised. Ask the victims of Katrina. Better yet ask T.D.Jakes, how Bush 2 decided to bring him along with him to see the destruction, some what as a “see some Blacks think I’m great.” What did Bush’s Mother say, “well these people are better off now than they were before”. Think people, for Keekaboo, and all you other haters on this website, It’s not about our race, it’s never about our race when it come to us. Think when was the last time we had a true candidate, Black or other wise we can believe in. Young Black men hate themselves, we have the highest Black on Black crime, why, because we don’t believe in ourselves. We never come together for any positive cause. It is always hate, hate, hate . Don’t tell me what to do, I’m for the status quo, Give me a break. Don’t let your vote be taken away from you, Barack Obama is the BEST THING FOR AMERICA. HE IS THE ONE.

  50. Chris Styles

Thanks for the info J. Dakar I left out the major party part! But clearly Mrs. Clinton is not the first female to run 4 pres. of the U.S.so if you (meaning B.E.T.)doesn’t know the facts they shouldn’t even attempt to speak on them! They should leave it up 2 brother Jeff(bet correspondent)I like most of the points that he makes.

  51. kyandi

i’m sorry, but Hillary Clinton is the best person for president!

Some black people are voting 4 Obama just because he is black

    Hillary Clinton 4 2008 PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!

  52. Ninagirl1

Its the right time for a black president. Obama will be the first but I gurantee there will be more black presidents to follow.

  53. TT

I just want to quickly piggyback off of Keekaboo’s comment and remind everyone that the President does not run the country all by themselves. It is there job to surrond themselves with a great cabinet that will assist in the decision making. So yes, Obama is inexperienced but so are the rest of the candidates. No one has direct experience with “running a country” until they…run the country. However, we must choose a candidate that we feel will surrond themselves with the best folks…cause they def don’t run it alone.

  54. Div

    I absolutely love that photo!

  55. Keeping It Real

    GO Obama!
I have looked at both of their records and I find both of them to be good Presidents, but I don’t want someone to pull all kinds of crap because the going gets tuff. I’m a mother of six and own my own home I was fortunate to not get caught up in all the scams when purchasing an home because I did my research. I have read Hillary’s plan I think it’s another one of those short terms fix, because there are so many people who are loosing their homes. We all have gotten into a bind where we saw an easy solution to fix the problem and now the problem is bigger than when it first started. I ask do we want someone to come in and give us a temporary solution or a long term solution. Also her bill includes help for energy but we all know how that works, so if you make over 20,000 there is no break for you. I listen to her when she speaks at different forums and she starts off as a changed person but then she starts talking about the same old politics. SO I’M NOT ONE OF THOSE WHO WILL VOTE FOR HIM BECAUSE HE IS BLACK. I WILL VOTE FOR HIM BECAUSE I THINK THAT HE IS THE BETTER CANIDATE!

  56. JSCENE

I never figured Hilary as a whiney cry baby, and who the hell want’s a emotional person as a president who displays emotions so freakin easily; not me….we need a soldier 24/7……for me, she definitely lost points with that crying display…woman are already trying to debunk the notion that we are “too emotional”, and therefore, not equip to run things..

  57. Team Clinton

Go Hillary! She’s got my vote.

  58. Shop Girl

YOU PEOPLE ARE REDICULOUS! “BLACK PEOPLE ARE VOTING FOR OBAMA BECAUSE HE IS BLACK”. THE LAST TIME I CHECKED WHITE AMERICANS VOTE WHITE AND THEY DON’T APOLOGIZE FOR IT. WE KNOW THEY PREFER THEIR OWN BUT WHEN BLACK PEOPLE STAND UP FOR ANOTHER BLACK PERSON, WE CRITICISE AND QUESTION OUR JUDGEMENT.

IT IS TOO EARLY IN THE RACE TO SAY WHO IS VOTING FOR WHO. EVERYONE IS GOING BACK AND FOURTH BETWEEN CLINTON AND OBAMA AND KNOW ONE KNOWS WHAT THE OUTCOME WILL BE AT THIS POINT.

AND ENOUGH WITH THE NO EXPERIENCE. DON’T FORGET THAT RONALD REAGAN WAS AN ACTOR AND AROUSED THE AMERICAN PUBLIC INTO TRUSTING HIM. AND LETS NOT FORGET THAT THE PRESIDENT DOES NOT MAKE ALL THE DECISIONS ALONE. OBAMA WILL BE UP AGAINST SOME PEOPLE WHO WILL RESIST HIS WAY OF THINKING AND WILL TRY TO STOP PROGRESS AND UNITY JUST BECAUSE HE IS BLACK AND THEY DON’T WANT PEACE.

HELL, LOOK AT WHAT THE CURRENT PRESIDENT HAS DONE IN THE NAME OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND HE DID NOT DO THE DAMAGE ALONE. MOST OF THE PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY ARE AS GUILTY AS HE IS.

THIS COUNTRY IS A MESS POLITICALLY AND THE PUBLIC JUST SITS BACK AND LETS IT HAPPEN. MOST OF THE SAME BLACK PEOPLE CRITICISING OBAMA HAVE THE SLIGHTEST CLUE ABOUT HOW THINGS ARE BEING DONE IN THIS COUNTRY SO DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU PUT OUT A GRADE ON THIS MAN. AND AS FOR MRS. CLINTON. SHE THINKS AND THOUGHT SHE HAD THIS RACE IN THE BAG BECAUSE OF HER EXPERIENCE AND THE FACT THAT BILL IS SUCH A GREAT CAMPAINGNER.

I DON’T KNOW WHO WILL WIN AND GOD HELP US ALL AFTER THE VOTES ARE IN BECAUSE WE ARE GOING TO NEED IT NO MATTER WHO WINS.

BUT I WILL SAY THIS. IT IS TIME FOR SOMEONE WHO’S GOT THE BALLS TO GET IN THE RACE AND GIVE THEM A RUN FOR THEIR MONEY AND I AM DAMN PROUD THAT IT IS OBAMA. GIVEN THE HISTORY OF THIS COUNTRY AND THE LENCHINGS THAT WENT ON NOT TOO LONG AGO I SAY GOD BLESS OBAMA AND FIGHT THAT HE IS UP AGAINST. IF HE WINS THEN GREAT BUT THAT IS ONLY THE BEGINING OF BATTLE. THIS MAN COULD BE KILLED JUST BECAUSE HE IS BLACK ESPECIALLY IF HE BECOMES PRESIDENT.

I SAY, OBAMA HAS MY PRAYERS BECAUSE THIS COUNTRY HAS SUCH DEEP ROUTED HATRED FOR THE BLACK MAN WHO PUSHES FOR CHANGE. I SAY, YOU HAVE TO GET OUT THERE AND TAKE A CHANCE FOR CHANGE AND AT LEAST OBAMA IS PUTTING HIMSELF OUT THERE. WIN OR NO WIN? THE MAN IS STRONG!

  59. NYLady

#52– Let’s say your statement is correct. SO WHAT??!! Seriously, so what if some people are voting for Obama because he’s black?!!
Do you think in white households they are so conflicted about voting for a white candidate? No!
Why do we (blacks) always have to overcompensate to look ‘right’ or ‘politically-correct’ to the larger masses.
You have white women (and some black woment) running around saying they want to see a woman in office. And they are certainly not apologizing for it– nor do they have to.
I’m going to go out and say I love Obama– I love what he stands for- and YES, I want to see a black person in office.
