POLITICAL ROUND UP: GORE DEFENDS SAME-SEX MARRIAGE / HUNTER ENDORSES HUCKABEE / CHENEY’S ‘DAY OF RECKNONING’

Thursday, January 24, 2008

Check out this video of Al Gore, chairman of Current TV, who posted a one-minute speech on the video-sharing site stating why gay marriage should be legal.

HUNTER ENDORSES HUCKABEE

(Screencap: CNN)

California Rep. and former presidential candidate Duncan Hunter announced Wednesday he’s endorsing former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee.

“I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail,” Hunter said in a statement. “Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China’s emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America’s industrial base.”

“Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee’s candidacy that compels my endorsement,” he added. “Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well.”

CHENEY WARNS OF ‘DAY OF RECKNONING’

(Photo: Splash)

In a speech before the Heritage Foundation conservative think tank, Vice President Dick Cheney warned that a “day of reckoning” is near if Congress fails to pass a bill soon that would replace an expiring law that expanded the government’s ability to conduct warrantless surveillance of suspected terrorists.

Last August, Congress hurriedly passed the Protect America Act after Mike McConnell, the Director of National Intelligence, told lawmakers that technology changes had lessened the ability to collect intelligence against terrorists. The law expires February 1.

Good for Hunter and Huckabee….as for me….Obama 08!!!!!!!

I always liked Al Gore!!!! I like the fact that he so involved with whats going on in our environment….I saw his film concerning Global Warming….its amazing!!!!

Why cant two people of the same gender be together…if they love each other?
We have alot of Man/woman couples who are married and cant stand each other but stay together for different reasons…..for the kids….money…putting up with bull just so they wont have to stay single….

And some heterosexual couples just make a mockery of the meaning of marriage….and the only amount of respect for it left in this society!!!

Step it up J.D……Your posts are starting to become my favorites!!!!!

Same sex marraige, hell no. Therefore, its gonna make it seem ok for same sex to get married then, and there will be no meaning of morals anynmore. People can just do wat they want.

News Flash #17 Rotex……people already do what they want. Rights I say yes to….thats a no brainer…same sex couples should have the EXACT same rights as heterosexual. Its the concept of marriage that sometimes troubles me. In my opinion marriage has a religous element to it, which therefore creates a certain amount of contradiciton/strife; specifically when speaking about Christianity. Marriage in a legal sense is different however.

19.

WhatIThinkIs

Marriage is a joke now in the US. So who really has morals? Nobody! So if a homo couple wants to get together, let them. In due time, they’ll just mess up like a hetero couple will.
I’ sorry, but I can’t be worried about wh loves who when thi country is headed for a recession, kids have guns in schools yet no books, folks are being mutilated over seas by US Military for no reason while waisting our tax dollars, etc. I mean really though. What’s more worth my concern?

About former Pastor Mike

Thursday, January 24, 2008 /

You know people are talking about Obama attending an afrocentric church and when Huckabee was a Pastor his church was one of the most segregated churches onSunday morning , you may see some black christian evangelicals (who are undercover ) secretly telling their members to vote for him , and even sending out materials, cd, dvds in the mail with undercover support of Huckabee. I know because I recieved them in the mail from a well known ministry, it does not say vote for him but his picture is in the printed insert and the taped broadcast are in the teaching.
They are keeping quiet because if he talked about his religious beliefs then maybe folks would not vote for him. He is getting endorsements and funds from ministries….and I can name them most of them are the ones who are up for scrutiny now about their finances?????
Pay attenton young people don’t let them church folk sneak one up on you!!!!!
I am a Christian (so is Mr.Obama), but I know how hypocritical, racist and bigoted that evangelicals can be using the name of the Lord.
Sin is sin in the eyes of God they pick their sins.
As far as integrity and character those are the two things that impressed me early about Obama, when the Cintons were always talking about experience I would say integrity and charcter a bigger thing with God than your abilities.
Mr.Obama has impeccable character with no hidden agenda, and integrity and no hidden agenda.

This is so true…in fact y cousin goes to a well known bible college mostly white and he says we all should be the fly on the wall during many conversations.
The media says race is not an issue well don’ believe them he said most evangelicals do not want a black President.
The republicans really want Obama out of the game , the are so glad Bill is messing with Obama.
They know McCain is too old and that Huckabee could beat Hillary. These republicans are the same ones who tried very hard to impeach Bill and evangelicals are hard on adultery and they are not wanting by any stretch of the imagaination trying to put the Clintons back in the white house they know if they beat Hillary they have finally gotten the Clintons because they worked hard to get him impeached and he did not, puit mud on their faces.
You better believe they have a strategy and the party will work together they are not divided like Obama and Hillary and that is mostly due to Bill and Hillary, becuase as far as they are concerned the white house is their house and they planned this many years ago.

27.

WHO IS HUNTER????

Thursday, January 24, 2008 /

HE IS AN EVANGELICAL CHRISTIAN WHO HAD DECIDED LONG AGO TO ENDORSE HUCKABEE BUT YOU ARE NOW JUST HEARING ABOUT IT…….THESE POLITICIANS DO NOT RELEASE THEIR RELIGIOUS BELIEF OR CHURCH AFFILIATIONS BUT THEY WANT TO TALK ABOUT OBAMA AT LEAST HE TOLD THE TRUTH AND SAYS WHERE HE GOES TO CHURCH AND WHO IS PASTOR IS…AND TRUST ME THEY HAVE ALREADY DECIDED WHICH CHRISTIANS WILL GET KEY POSTIONS IF THEY WIN WHO BELIEVE AS THEY DO…HUCKABEE MAY EVEN LEGISLATE AGAINST ABORTION AND THIS IS NO JOKE, THOUGH I THINK IT IS WRONG BUT I BELIEIVE PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE A CHOICE BECAUSE WHATEVER CHOICE IS BETWEEN THEM AND GOD AND WE SURE DON’T WANT TO GET BACK TO ILLEGAL ABORTIONS IT WAS DEADLY DURING THAT TIME…..BECAUSE IF A WOMAN OR YOUNG LADY HAS AN UNWANTED PREGNANCY SHE WILL AND HAS IN THE PAST GONE TO THE EXTREMES TO ABORT THAT CHILD.
HUCKABEE HAS A HIDDEN AGENDA I TOO BELIEVE!!!!!

Is it wrong for the government to discriminate against people because of an age difference if we should be “promoting the kind of faithfulness and loyalty to one’s partner”. What if a 13 year old and a 50 year old adult want to marry? Shouldn’t we celebrate the loyalty and love that they feel for each other when they fall in love? Why can’t an adult and child be legally married if they love each other?

Thursday, January 24, 2008 /

@Jesus Take The Wheel don’t say that. you sound very uneducated. a child marrying an adult is not the same thing b/c children are not considered to be mature enough to know what love is. if you think a 13yr old knows what love is, then you might as well let them drink, join the army, etc. i mean two adults loving each other is completely different and you know it. you just have a problem with gay marriage and will pull anything out of thin air to make it look bad

and @cmeez don’t bring that up either b/c during jesus’ time, jewish ppl would marry within families b/c they didn’t want foreigners into their families. they wanted ppl who had the same beliefs as them to be in their families so they would marry within a clan and most of the time the bride and groom would somehow be related (probably would be distant cousins- i doubt jewish ppl do that anymore though)). so don’t bring that up like it’s something that would be new or would arise from gays getting married when it’s already been happening.

36.

Thursday, January 24, 2008 /

i swear some of you anti-gay rights ppl are very funny. you act like we’re living in a perfect, sin-free heaven-like type of world and that gay marriage is going to bring us down and make god mad at us. i don’t know if you’ve noticed but there is sooo much sin going around that even if god had a problem with gay marriage, i highly doubt he would waste his time thinking about it. with all the serial killings, rapings, racism, etc. going around he’s got other things to worry about. YOU also have other things to worry about. ppl complain that they want their kids to grow up with morals and that’s why they’re against gay marriage yet their kids probably aren’t perfect now anyway. i know too many of these kids who are staunchly against gay marriage also yet turn right around and start smoking blunts and sniffing cocaine. i know a girl who is literally having sex with a different dude every week but acts like gay marriage is an abomination. i know ppl who steal then turn around and talk about how gay marriage shouldn’t happen b/c it’s a sin. and these are all ivy league kids so you’d think they’d be smarter than that. hypocrisy at its best

@34 Well while we’re at it how about fathers marry their daughters once the daughters become a consenting adults? Love is love, right?

@35 You cant be serious. Marrying a distant cousin during “jesus’ time” and marrying your own sister/brother in 2008 are two different scenarios. Actually I think that homosexuality and incest between consenting adults is a great analogy.

***patting myself on the back for thinking of it***

@ 36

“serial killings, rapings, racism…” “smoking blunts and sniffing cocaine”

You just compared homosexuality to your list of sins above. Last time I checked none of these things were legal either. So why should gay rights be any different? You’re right people are going to do what they want, but why does the government need to endorse it? Furthermore, how is homosexuality any different than consensual incest among closely related adults? (i.e. siblings, father/daughter)

I find it really sad that you equate incest with homosexuality; it’s quite different. Two same sex adults getting married in no way challenges the sanctity of marriage between a man and a women. There is nothing wrong with the government endorsing an act that should have never been illegal in the first place…

@Cmeez no i said IF god had a problem with it (b/c since i haven’t talked to him-and i’m assuming you haven’t either but if you have, please let me know- i don’t think i’m in the right place to say what he has a problem with and what he doesn’t) it wouldn’t be the number one thing on his mind, seeing that there are crimes being committed everyday. being homosexual is not a crime. YOU might think it’s a sin but it sure isn’t a crime and marrying your partner shouldn’t be a crime either. and incest isn’t illegal in ALL states. it’s actually only completely illegal in 24 states and has limits in other states. in france and japan, it’s legal. i’m not sure about other countries but the point is that you can’t use the whole “well then why don’t we allow incest” argument incest might be taboo like homosexuality is and will always be but it’s kind of allowed. i mean even the laws that make it illegal only apply to father, daughter, first cousins-basically close relations but they don’t apply to 2nd cousins so contrary to popular belief, incest isn’t truly illegal.

When He makes a move in your life, you know that He is the only person that could have done what was done. So, if you believe in Him, knowing that He knows what’s best…..the same goes for His Word. He is His Word. If the Bible says homosexuality is a sin..then its a SIN. So I will never vote for a sin to be ok in man’s eyes. F**k man! I serve God, and I will go with what He says all of the time. What would be next… Liars wanting pergury to be legalized..or murders saying I was born a murder so it should be ok for me to kill? @Cmeez, You make great points I agree with everything u said.

@UGHH, For the most part incest IS illegal

@ AKA NY, Just because something was done in the past that doesn’t make it ok in the present. There were killers, rapest, and theives back then too is ok to do those things today.

Anyways I don’t really care either way about the whole gay marriage thing. As long as it doesn’t become an infringment on others rights, like the talks about placing classes in school to teach tolerance/acceptanc for homosexuality to children a year or so ago. I didn’t agree with that at all. We are all human beings and should be treated as such without question I most definately agree with that but if someone does not agree with homosexuality and wants to teach there children the same no school should be teaching them different. As long as whatever decision is made doesn’t effect everyone else I don’t think most people have a problem with it.

so how would two men/women getting married to one another negatively affect society? how does this impact the rest of us? Why don’t some of yall ask yaself that question instead of running to getyourbiblequote.com. As far as im concerned, Joe and Sue getting married doesn’t mean anything to me, so why am I going to lose sleep over Joe and Mike or Sue and Meg? I’m not.
(Incest, however, has the potential to bring about mental and physical retardations in any offspring that may be produced from that relationship as well as screwing up the genetic variations pool in society. Even with that said, I still don’t feel directly affected.)
Stop using your religion and ideals to dictate how individuals should lead their life. Accept people for who they are and if you don’t agree with homosexuality then don’t participate in it.

What would some of you do if your child was a homosexual? Men and women are committing suicide everyday because they cant even find someone to relate to nor can they turn to their own family for love cus everyones so busy trying to pick and choose what part of the bible they want to abide by instead of simply following the basic principle of Christianity.
