Martin Lawrence, Cedric The Entertainer, Mo’Nique, Mike Epps and Michael Clarke Duncan pictured at the Hollywood premiere of “Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins” on Monday night. The film which is set to hit theaters on February 8th, stars Martin Lawrence as Roscoe Jenkins coming home for his parents 50th wedding anniversary.

I had the chance to attend a pre-screening of this movie and it was sooooooooo funny! I understand some of the comments about black people only doing comedies but are we not allowed to laugh now? This movie is far from a shuck and jive film it is a comedy that anyone with a family can relate to even across racial lines. There is more to the story than him just coming home it explores the relationship between family and how you choose to handle success.

Now as far as Adam Sandler, yes he is a clown, but his movies are not all silly backyard trailer trash comedies. Take Big Daddy for instance. He was an irresponsible new dad… but he tried… He wasn’t a black man who made it and forget his roots. It was sort of real life, hey piss on the wall just don’t cry i don’t care. It was sort of real… in a way. It wasn’t feeding into any sterotype. there are movies out there and tons of ways to be funny and not coon ourself. I’m tired of putting out money into ignorance. I’m tired of them making the same films over and over and giving them a different name hence this film. This is nothing but a remake of a Bernie Mack Episode i saw one. And it’s sad that this movie will make more money at the box office than a Catch of Fire, or Great Debaters, A Good Day To Be Black And Sexy… which is an innovated movie, that I’m the only blogger to blog about it. There are other movies out there which deserve the recognition and the well thought out intelligent black movies don’t get the press. So while you’re watching First Sunday about Robbing a Church, and This movie Roscoe Jenkins about other black Stereotype’s I’ll be reading a book.
@ Real Talk – I’m not sayin Raven is a dyke but she looks like one. None of the women in there are really dressed with a lot of skin showing, everyone is dressed nice and respectable. Raven has on a SUIT!! and the suit isn’t even sexy it’s just a suit. I own that exact same suit… It’s made for a man!! She could have worn something better it’s all i’m saying. She looks like a dyke. Its just my opinion.

BLOGXILLA…..I get your point but there are several black comedies out there that does not make black people look coonish as you say…..The Inkwell, Kingdom Come, Boomerang, Harlem Nights, Bad Boys I and II, All of Tyler Perry Movies, Are We Done Yet, Are We There Yet, Something New, The Best Man, Thirty Years to Life, even that last movie that came out I thought sucked The Perfect Christmas and oh of course I liked This Christmas and I could go on…..,I am a movie watcher rather its a DVD or going to a movie….don’t get me wrong I understand what you are saying we could go into Soul Plane and Who’s your Caddy and goofy movies like that…..but what seems like a terrible movie to you could be good to others because of there favorite actor or comedian…..and there are a lot of inspirational movies black people watch that we all appreciate I am sure…..and you talking about reading…..I got plenty books for ya too….I can go from Barack Obama’s book to Zane on you.

Raven needs to dress her age. I almost didn’t even know who she was in that picture. We all know that she became wealthy from her show That’s So Raven, Cheehta Girls, selling her products for little kids and the whole 9. But she is worth 400 million atleast she could dress her, do some lifetime movies, or just leave show business and have a family. That girl is worth 400 million she does not have to work again, but for the people she worked with since she was little might need that money she got and hell they are rich too.
