Yet overall, “The Color Purple” — which boasts Oprah Winfrey as its over-the-title producer — has had an impressive track record during its nearly 2 1/2 years on Broadway.

It recouped its $11 million investment a year after it opened on Dec. 1, 2005. It won a Tony Award for lead actress LaChanze, who played the role of Celie in the adaptation of Alice Walker’s beloved novel. It also has consistently attracted Broadway’s hard-to-get African-American audience. And by the time it closes, it will have played 30 previews and 910 regular performances.

The current cast stars Broadway newcomer Zonya Love as Celie, pop diva Chaka Khan as Sofia and singer Bebe Winans as Harpo. Barrino had previously played the role of Celie.

This summer, Atlantans will get a chance to see “The Color Purple,” when the national tour arrives at the Fox Theatre during the National Black Arts Festival, July 15-Aug. 3. Theater of the Stars will present the show.

It’s not…if you want to. But I won’t hold a professional stylist to the same standards. To put together an outfit with color coordination as a paramount object is sterile. And that’s what Keyshia’s stylist does….oh and Magic Don Juan.

It seemed that after she really blew up with “I Shoulda Cheated,” her stylist tried to do okay. Her outfits in “Love” were okay… the pieces and layering was nice ( but the stylist still relied too much on color as a compass IMO). But it seemed that they got more and more into this “Keyshia is real” “Keyshia keeps it real” and her style was so simplified. I don’t know…either it’s clever marketing or her stylist is playing her because after seeing the woman talking on tv, I just don’t think she would have told Keyshia to wear that black romper with the leopard print scarf or that too little denim romper with her boobies flattened on 106th and Park or that chiffon top with the floral pattern with denim shorts a chain belt and suede bootie to her album release party…if she wasn’t playing her lol
