ROUND UP: TIGER WOODS DRAMA / STOP THE HATE IN ‘08

Thursday, January 10, 2008

twoods.jpg
Tilghman’s suspension ends in time for the Buick Invitational on Jan. 24, when Tiger will make his 2008 debut.

Golf Channel suspended golf’s first female anchor Kelly Tilghman for two weeks for saying last week that young players who wanted to challenge Tiger Woods should “lynch him in a back alley.” Although Woods and Tilghman have known each other 12 years and his agent at IMG said he didn’t think there was any ill intent, Al Sharpton demanded she be fired immediately.

According to a statement released by Golf Channel:

“There is simply no place on our network for offensive language like this.

While we believe that Kelly’s choice of words was inadvertent and that she did not intend them in an offensive manner, the words were hurtful and grossly inappropriate. Consequently, we have decided to suspend Kelly for two weeks, effective immediately.”
[ Source ]

Before her suspension was announced on Wednesday, Sharpton spoke earlier on CNN’s “Prime News” and continued to push for her firing, saying he wanted to meet with Golf Channel because the comments were “an insult to all blacks.”

“Lynching is not murder in general, it’s not assault in general,” Sharpton said. “It’s a specific racial term that this [woman] should be held accountable for. What she said is racist. Whether she’s a racist … is immaterial. She’s a broadcaster. The channel has to be accountable to the public.”

Tilghman was helped when Mark Steinberg, Woods’ agent at IMG, said it was a non-issue and considered the matter “case closed.”

“Tiger and Kelly are friends, and Tiger has a great deal of respect for Kelly,” Steinberg said. “Regardless of the choice of words used, we know unequivocally that there was no ill-intent in her comments.”

Tilghman had said in a previous statement she apologized directly to Woods, and the immediate support from Woods’ camp was critical.

Stop the Hate in ‘08

Comedian Ricky Smiley is not laughing. In fact, after learning about a black couple living in a North Arlington, Texas neighborhood who were being victimized by an elderly white neighbor last week, he was outraged.

He and a group of pastors organized a march and town hall meeting of over 300 people last Thursday at Winbush Elementary School to make a stand against racism.

According to Smiley, this is a much larger problem then in just Arlington, Texas. These types of isolated incidents are happening more frequently across the country and racism and racial injustice in the United States most come to an end once and for all.

On December 19, the neighbor, Grace Head, verbally attacked Broderick Gamble and his fiancée, Silk Littlejohn, with racial slurs. Two days later, the couple found the words “Kill” and “Die Nigger” spray-painted on the garage of the new home they’re building. Two days after that, Ms. Head attacked Ms. Littlejohn with a two-by-four and was charged with assault, criminal trespass and failure to identify herself to a police officer. After she was released, she was arrested again three days later on a felony criminal mischief charge for jumping and sitting on the couple’s vehicle.

This couple, and everyone else, has the right and the freedom to move into any neighborhood of their choice. Why is this still happening?!

Tiger — good to see that you are still black. so what you are part asian. so what you married a yellow hair white woman. YOU ARE STILL BLACK!!! Every person on this earth will remind you of that every chance they get so there is no way to mask this fact. Funny how some men will try to overlook the obvious and then they are reminded in the most horrible way.

Texas — klan country.

I’m sorry but Tiger Woods is ok with it because he does not consider himself a black man.He claimed he’s years ago in Ebony mag that he’s more thai than black.Like someone said if he’s okay with it let it go,cause i got a hunch he wants this to go away as quickly as possible.

She was saying it in a joking matter… complimenting him for being such a good golf player… Im sure in the back of her head she wasnt like ooh let me think of something that happend 50 years ago to SOME black families and make a joke out of it… IM going to be honest for a second… The only thing that gives something like that power is black people responding to comments like that..acting all (fire her OMG i cant believe it).. that fuels things and gives it more power… You ever hear of stories of Asian or white people even making big deals about comments ever.. and just because they dont doesnt mean that comments arent being said. We all need to stop giving things like this attention…

Tiger woods and his camp must not understand that once this woman stated on air that lynching should be done it was no longer just about him. This IS an insult to all black people. This country is at a very sensitive point right now when it comes to racial injustice, racial violence, and racism in general. That statement effects all of us and she should be held accountable for what she said whether or not they are friends or if she was joking is irrelevant because lynching is not a joking matter AT ALL, EVER. For Tiger to act like this is nothing just proves that he could care less about his people. I understand that he is mixed but it seems as though if he could help it, he wouldn’t be black at all.

#5 I live in Texas and it is not “Klan Country” as you stated. I am black and there is racism, but it is like that in every state across the country. Racism is everywhere and not just isolated to certain states or cities. with that said, the couple should be arrested and jailed for their actions, and on top of that made to pay resitution to the couple. they only way some people will learn is if you hit them in the pocketbook.as far as Tiger Woods, I think he did the right thing by not making this into a bigger issue. what was he supposed to do, attack her? Tiger Woods probably realizes more than people believe that he is black. he is playing a sport that is known as a “white man’s sport” and I am sure he faced pleny of racism just stepping on the golf course everyday before he became a champion. he acknowledges both sides of his heritage which there is nothing wrong with. he might look black, but he is part Asian. Tiger Woods is a passive man, not weak. sometimes people have to take the higher road and not feed into the media hype.

Al Shaprton needs to shut the hell up. Why everytime something happens to the black community, that is negative, he has to open his mouth. I think the black community that was affected should be the ones speaking. In this case, this is Tiger Woods’ business, not his. If Tiger forgives her, let it be. Al always has to blow things up worse than they are. I have a feeling that she didn’t mean it the way it came out. People say things before they think and sometimes it comes out worse than what they meant it to be. I am not saying it’s ok to say hurtful things. I am saying that this is between Tiger and her and that should be it!

She deserved to be suspended. With no discipline, there would be no change. True she was joking, but there are plenty of ignorant people out here who would take the joke seriously and may think of acting on it. Watch the news. Anytime a person can kill and cook his girlfriend (someone close to him) a stranger can think to lynch a black person in their own back alley. IT’S SERIOUS OUT HERE IN THESE STREETS!!!!

Stop the excuses for letting the lady’s action be dismissed. If we didn’t have Al Sharpton and the black leaders before him, the black community would be sh**ed on with far less opportunities if any. Most of us are too scared to step out and speak up. I’m a person who will step out and speak up to anyone, especially in unfair situations, but when majority are afraid, I’m a minority count and therefore disregarded for better outcomes. PEOPLE STOP BEING AFRAID, FACE REALITY, AND BREAK AWAY FROM FEAR. FIGHT RACISM!!!! IT”S DEGRADING AND EMBARASSING!!! This situation only proves that eventhough the woman have known Tiger for 12 years, she doesn’t respect him entirely. That’s a joke that she should have kept away from the public and furthermore to herself. She showed her true color and character.

I think this is a case of inappropriate language. I don’t believe that she intended to be malacious but I do believe that people have to watch what they say, especially in this very politically correct society. Lynch is a word that no black person wants to see in a sentence next to a black person but since Tiger Woods is Cablanasian or whatever the hell he says he is, there should be no problem. He isn’t even offended by it.

Should she be fired? No, I don’t think so. I think the suspension will suffice.

How could what she said not be of “ill-intent”, espeically in light of all the racial controversery that has been going on lately. You would think one would be extra careful with their words at a time like this. She should be disciplined on that alone, just for being stupid.

I tell you what though, with Obama running, things are going to get alot worse than what we are seeing now. True colors are REALLY about to start showing. Madness…

Right is right and wrong is wrong no matter where it comes from and this is wrong. Black people need to get off the high horse and learn how to stand together cause this is offensive to all of us. This aint no joking matter. If my friend is jewish does it make it right for me to say don’t let me have to call Hitler on you? No. I bet the black people that shrug this off voted for Bush. Not saying we shouldn’t forgive and move on but we should stand up and say we’re offended and feel disrespected. This is a reminder that although we’ve come a long way, we still got work to do.

I don’t understand why Tiger and his camp would say that it was OK. what could this lady be talking about in GOLF that “Lynch him in a back alley” is OK? I play a little golf and I have never encountered that term.

and if that is Tigers friend, why would she want the new comers to LYNCH him, in whatever term she meant it. I wouldn’t wish for my friend to be beat in any sport that they were good at!?!?! Am I the only person that sees something intrinsically wrong with this?

Just because she said sorry that doesn’t mean she is a racist, Kramer said sorry, they all say sorry…but that doesn’t hide the fact that racism is in their soul! you don’t mistakenly use those choice of words, unless somewhere deep in side your being, YOU TRULY BELIVE THEM!!

Racism/Slavery is America’s wound that NEVER healed properly.

If someone shoots you in the leg and hits a major artery, even if you tie a tourniquet around it, eventually you will have to get to a doctor to do major surgery to STOP the bleeding. Otherwise you will lose a limb or worse…die!!!

That’s how I see racism in America. Slavery was a MAJOR wound not only to the U.S. but the World. But the effects of it and the effects it’s had on people (black people in particular) has never been properly dealt with. It’s either been ignored, thrown money at, white-washed, or denied.

I was telling my friend that it seems as if America is regressing when it comes to racism and racial issues. We haven’t gone back to the days of Jim Crow, but something is going on.

I really believe we are moving backwards with racial equality…..SO many things that so many of “our” ancestors fought and died for is being done again and not much is being done about it. Its sad but true!! I really think that the issue lies with “us” not really sticking together when it is really needed for the “smaller” issues and trying to jump on the band wagon for what may seem to be the “bigger” issues. We can’t continue to sing the “we shall overcome” for one issue and not another, regardless of what one may deem to be bigger than the other. I really wish black folks really wake up and realize what is going on in the world and come together to do something about it, just as out ancestors did.

I usually don’t post more than a couple sentences on CL but I just had to vent this morning because these two issues that are posted are RIDICULOUS!!!!! Thanks……*whew*

Your so right J! Why IS this type of stuff still happening? I mean its 2008, white people really need to understand that black folks are NEVER going anywhere, and should just learn to accept that. You dont have to like us, but you darn sure need to respect us, and by respecting it means keeping your f*ucking racist thoughts, comments, & actions to yourself. I mean black people do this every darn day, why cant they?!!! Thats why I have mixed feelings about Obama running. Because if he wins, I really do believe they will assassinate him. And God Forbid that happens because that will open up pandora’s box and create even more issues between blacks and whites! **shrugs**

This woman, I would assume, being in the media spotlight, is very well versed. Why in the hell would she use the term “lynch” knowing the history and where the word derived from? I am sure she’s heard about Don Imus and the other jackass Golfer that lost to Tiger and said, “Oh, he’s going to feed us fried chicken and collard greens”. “These people” obviously have had discussions and/or made racial remarks amongst their family and friends and subconsciously “forget” they are not in the privacy of their homes and have Freudian slip of the tongue. The crap is embedded in their minds and “they” are not going to change.

FIRE HER AND LET HER FEEL THE WRATH!!

As fo Al . .No one else IS stepping up to the plate in our defense.

Aight folks. I understand what everyone is saying about ‘Tiger not being black” and “Tiger not caring because he’s weak”. Has anyone even considered that the chick might have just meant to say that “If any of these young players plan to challenge Tiger on the golf course, they might as well just try jumping him in a back alley.” Simply saying that there is no beating Tiger on the course, you’re better off banding together and kicking his aas. Everyone watches ESPN, and FOX Sports, the commentators are hired for their colorful personalities and off-beat jokes. I know racial tension is high, but give me a break. Tiger ain’t trippin’, why should we?

Call me the Devil’s Advocate… or maybe slightly delirious (sp) from sleep deprivation, but I’m at the point where I’m sooo tired of these race “issues” every other week. We spend so much time and energy getting riled up at these incidents and it leaves us…. no where.

Shhiiiiit, I feel like Al Sharpton really does need to sit down ( I agree, #3). Calling for people’s resignation or suspending them is clearly ineffective (i.e. Imus). These people are still bouncing back and making money from the media’s attention. Furthermore, it’s only provoking this continuous vicious cycle of racism.

I made the mistake of actually reading the comments sections on one of Perez’s blogs and it completely blew me back. Racism is soo prevalent and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon, it’s carried through generations… that’s a tough mindset to break.

Am I saying we shouldnt speak up on racial issues? No, not at all. But I do feel like we spend too much time on it. Call me naive, whatev. but I’m at the point I ignore it. I keep moving on, making money and bettering myself and others….and chalk it up as one of life’s challenges. (Maybe this is Tiger’s perspective too? i dunno)

So what the hell is my point….umm, not sure now… I’ll come back in five hours when I’m more awake.

Al Sharpton does need to pick and chose his battles. He need not come to the aid of Tiger Woods cuz Tiger is not Black (in his own mind), so therefore was probably not offended.

We should focus our minds on things that more important than someone saying something that offends someonw. If Tigers o.k. with it who gives other people the right to try and take things in their own hands and comment on it.

We need to be focusing on whats really important like who we are going select for our next president! How are we going to get our troops from over their fighting a war thats really donn’t have anything to do with the United States, too many of our troops have been killed for absolutely no reason at all.

Focus our energy on other things that really matter. I did’t care about the Imus siuation and really don’t care about this one.

The world is coming to an end and people are not paying attention, especially when we get breaking news from regular scheduled programs that we are watching stating that Britnay Spears was put in Cedar hospital and blah blah, who cares about Britney? With all the incidents in the news of nooses being found in different locations, why would a white woman make a statement about a black man ( inspite of his confusion about his blackness) pertaining to lynching him in a alley? The hanging of Black men is such an ugly reality of American history. If she was attempting to be witty and humorous, it was crass, tasteless and showed poor judgement. This woman was well aware of what she was saying. That’s not the first time Tiger Woods was subjected to a racial slur, when he first entered the PGA another white male commentator made a remark about the type of food that would be served in the winner’s circle if Tiger won, fried chicken, collard greens etc. After all that mess with Don Imus here we are in 2008 with the same ol same ol, seems like some things never change.

Wow! What in the world is going on here? As far as the Golf anchor goes, she should’ve known better than to make a statement like that “out in the open”… If she and Tiger have been friends for a while and they “joke” with each other like that then, that’s something that should’ve been said behind closed doors.. For all we know - Tiger prolly “jokes” with her and says offensive things in a jokey-joke way to her, as well… But, there’s a TIME and PLACE for everything and her COMMON damn sense should’ve told her that wasn’t the time or place for a “joke” such as that…… She deserves to be suspended to the FULLEST extent of the punishment…

As far as the couple in Texas goes??? - Ay - Real Talk… I think someone would truly have to hold me back from whoopin’ the Holy SHIT out of her old ass the minute she stepped on my property….Point blank period. Even HERE is Mississippi - we have the RIGHT to shoot the SHIT out of anyone who may tresspass or break in our homes… Damn THAT… That law was recently passed here b/c crime was starting to get out of hand here in Jackson… The audacity for someone to try and destroy something you’ve worked hard for is beyond me… People should be able to live anywere they want to without being harrassed.

Yall know what else…………

We need more ppl like Kelly Tilghman’s, Don Imus’s, Paris Hiltons and my co-workers in the world. I respect that they show their TRUE COLORS. That way I don’t have to try and figure them out!

I love the fact that I can make them feel invisible and insecure. I do that a lot! I keep them wondering what is she going to do next. I love it. That gives me more reason to ‘flip the script’ on their asses. It’s just due!

Stop the Hate in ‘08 is a lovely slogan, in my community which is 90 percent white and extremley racist there is a campaign called Not in our town, which was started due to the resurgence of Klan activity in the area in 2000. While a good concept in theory, institutioanlized racism, and prejudice have existed and still exist in the States and abroad. As a black female who travels often, if someone were to tell me that prejudice does not exist in other countries that have been affected adversely by European/white supremacy. slavery, colonialism, and ethnocide of indigenious peoples I would beg to differ. We as human beings need to be imo, honest about racism, and prejudice. When someone makes a crude, declasse comment, i.e.) politicans, entertainment personalites, actors/actresses why are these comments not being not being discussed in schols? Children can be the greatest tool in fighting prejudice, xenophobia, and hatred which unfortunately, in most instances begins at home? Why are we not honest with our children about racism, colorism, and the historical events that have brutalized and psychologically damaged countless ethnicites, why is the Wille Lynch letter, the slave trade in Latin America, colonization of India, Africa, and Aisa, and the real effects of slavery how this profited immensely and continues to profit from free/cheap labor why are these issues not taught to children of all races in all schools public, private, and charter? I remember volunteering at elementary schools and all races of children really had no real concept of how brutal slavery and prejudice were and still are. Some people often marvel in 2008 how racism can still exist, not only is it institutionalized imo, it is often generational? Unfortunatley, not everyone is going to be into change, i.e) the absolutely atrocious behavior of the elderly Causcasion women but we can as people start with children; cousins, nephews, sisters, brothers, sisters if we start with children who as cliche as it sounds are the future we may make some headyway. Sorry I’m on a soapbox but in regards to both posts it is very telling that in 2008 civil rights issues are not on the agenda in the Supreme Court, nooses a weapon used by the Klan and hate groups to murder/intimidate minorities are make a resurgence and those in public/entertainment officials seem to disregard all cultural sensitivity/media training to make the most horrendous of statements in would have been heartening to see such an esteeme and respected athelete make classy, articulate statement about tolerance, however if men like Obama and women such as Oprah exist there is still hope.
Sorry about the legnth

I really don’t understand why Tiger would just let that go like that. Comments like that she be punished so they will not be looked at as ok to make. Why would you say it is ok that she said that?!? Is he that confused about what he is? Does he not realize that no matter what all he is mixed up with, it will all come back to the fact that he is a black man, period. Cablanasian is not going to help him. His white wife, his money, his status cannot save him from being a Black man!!! That just really irked the hell out of me :( That little old lady would have had to get a hip replacement when I got done lighting her little a** up. And the police need to quit just slapping her on the wrist and charge her with committing hate crimes and put her in jail. That might calm her irate a** down. Racism was never dead by any means, but it seems to be trying to rise up and rear it’s especially ugly, demented head again. I am so proud of my Bruh Mr. Smiley for taking a stand on that issue. @MONT yeah that is what she meant to say except she was dumb enough to use the word “lynch”.

i watched it and her and the other commentator WERE trying to show that tiger is so good, that the only way to beat him was to rough him up. her commentator, i think, made a comment that they should beat him up or something but she took it a step further with the lynching. i don’t think she meant “oh let’s lynch him” at all BUT i wonder if the commentators would have talked about tiger like that if he wasn’t part black. if he was all asian for instance would they have brought up the whole “you’d be better off beating him up than trying to beat him” idea. i know she’s friends with tiger and i don’t thinks he meant harm by her statement but it’s interesting to me that the topic even came up like that when i’ve never heard them talk about other golfers like that. anyway, sharpton is getting on my nerves. tiger consider himself more asian but trust me if someone was attacking his black side, no matter what he considers himself, he’s still going to be offended. obviously this didn’t offend him so why is sharpton going out on a limb. there are many more important issues that need to be discussed yet sharpton keeps dodging them. the reason why ppl feel like race is getting worse in america is b/c we don’t fight for respect anymore. we’ve become too complacent. so many young black kids think that “making it” in life involves becoming famous or rich when education is ALWAYS the key to success. back in the day, that was understood. we risked our lives too fight for education, the right to vote, etc. but now that we “have” those things, we don’t realize how much our ancestors sacrificed and that’s sad

Suspending someone or firing them RARELY causes them to change their ways. In fact, it does the opposite… it causes resentment. Making someone change their ways, racist or not, is a personal decision…a revelation within.

oh yeah and again about the whole “he didn’t get offended b/c he doesn’t consider himself black”- i don’t consider myself african-american b/c i’m caribbean-american but whenever a white person attacks african-americans SPECIFICALLY i still get offended b/c i share a common trait with african-americans. i think it’s unfair to say that tiger would never get offended if black ppl were attacked b/c he doesn’t consider himself black. if someone walked up to him and screamed the n-word, he WOULD get offended because regardless of what he considers himself, he will always have a little black in him and he will always be aware of that. i highly doubt he’s walking around thinking “say whatever racial insults against black ppl that you want b/c guess what i’m not black” if he felt that she meant it, he would get offended. he clearly realizes that it was an inappropriate word choice, not a wish.

But I still have to ask why the word lynch??? You couldn’t come up with any other word to describe him getting hurt physically? I mean, who even uses the word lynch anymore unless you are talking about slavery, the mistreatment of black people, or being racist? That word doesn’t just pop up in your mind as a choice word. You don’t just dismiss that as an improper choice of words! Something that she has been thinking, whether consciously or subconsciously, slipped out. But it was on her mind. Had to be. lynch just is not a common word in today’s vocabulary.

Hell I don’t consider myself “African-American”……..I’m an American of African descent. The term African-American does not connotate a “black” person. There are several terms for “Africans”. There are several “fair-skinned” Africans who are from the northern part of Africa and are mixed with everything that descended from that region of the continent. But I bet they would cut the fool if you called them “black”. THEY are African-Americans as well (if given citizenship).

Our African self was stripped from us on arrival in this land. Fortunately who we are can never be taken away. Being who we are does not make us less Black! Please remember that the ancestor of all man still points to an African!

Although Caucasians have tried achieved “the look”. One thing that can’t be taken away from us is the COLOR of our skin. (that is unless your name is Michael Jackson).

As stated before…..I WILL CHANGE MY BLK SKIN, WHEN YOU CHANGE YOUR BLK HEART.

JUDAH

This is getting very tired, in every sense of the word. Many black people are tired. Their method of gaining respect from whites through marching and begging for love and respect is tired. The white man is tired of having to live and work around black people. Whites are tired of having to acknowledge the natural ability that black people have despite the hurdles that have been purposefully put up against blacks. This is why slick comments are made, and they’re made in such a way that if caught on to, they can deny any racial intent. Either racial incidents are multiplying or the report of racial incidents is multiplying. Whites have to wonder to themselves,”How the f*ck do these negroes keep excelling at anything much less everything? Why are they still here?”. Generally, sports in America is a diversion and it bothers white people that they have to see negroes dominate these various “American pastimes.”. That Floyd Mayweather vs. Ricky Hatton fight; if anyone saw it, was full of racial tension and it seemed like the only people rooting for Floyd were Denzel Washington, Wesley Snipes, and Judge Mathis (who were all in the front row). Remember that golf was supposed to be the sport of the elite white man. No way in hell did they expect a negro to dominate that sport to the degree that Tiger Woods has. There is a tremendous degree of unspoken animosity for that man that he ignores because he’s getting paid to ignore it and he’s a coon negro. Tiger Woods has been the victim of racial epithets from a small child when his father took him to the golf course so if he was going to get angry, he would’ve done it a long time ago. This issue will blow over because he will absolve the white woman of all guilt and culpability as many negroes are wont to do because they lust after the acceptance of caucasians and because “Dr. King” tricked them into thinking that coming together with whites is more important than coming together with each other.

In regards to that other issue in Texas, that’s happening all over and will continue to happen. However one chooses to fight against that type of nonsense is their perogative. Those black people have a right to live wherever they want (allegedly) and they also have the right to purchase registered firearms and blow that old woman’s head off like a watermelon if she attacks one of them or steps on their property in a threateng manner again. White people do it to blacks all the time and it doesn’t get reported. In my opinion, when some black people say that “we can’t worry about white people, what about what we do.”, it’s true, but they only say it to take attention off of the white man with the false assumption that black people have to be perfect to get racism to cease. This treatment that our people receive is of the Most High, the white man/woman couldn’t stop hating our people even if they wanted to. This is why negroes always complain about how racist these white sites are. These white people that show out on these websites are the same white people that give you the fake smile by the water cooler or expect you to say “hello” to them first in the morning to establish your subservience. It’s a spiritual and psychological battle. Most black people don’t grasp this. This is also why when you are not subservient to these caucasians, they attempt to subvert you by recruiting the house negroes at the job.

I have no respect for Tiger Woods as a man. With all his father did in terms of teaching him a winning golf swing, he did nothing to teach him how to stand up as a man. Tiger Woods is trying so hard to run away from being a black man that he is letting these cracker motherf**kers walk all over, I’m sorry, do the f**king two step all over his ass. I can remember when he won the masters the first time and the chicken and greens comment was made about him and his weak ass came out saying he thought is was funny!!!!!!???!! Even if you did secretly think that it was funny (which says alot about his own self-esteem), why come out and say that in public? You were making history and you let that white man shit on it and you. Lynching is not a fucking joke. Most blacks in this country have a distant family members who met their end because of a lynching. People talk shit about Shapton but I for 1 am sick of this new generation of weak black men and women who are trying so hard to fit in and make sure no one notices their black skin that they won’t open their mouths for any reason, not even to stand up for themselves or their people. I FEEL SORRY FOR YOU TIGER!!!!!!!!!!!! Word the fuck up! And what makes it worse is that notable black producers are doing it in collusion with the white film company owners!

We seriously need to wake the hell up! Even lowbrow white comedies use proper English in the title. It’s just another subtle form of racism - teaching our kids that it’s alright to speak substandard English. Not to mention the idiotic plots of these so-called comedies. Not wanting to sound all high brow, because I DO like low humor, but only in that I balance it with more intelligent reading and movie fare every once in a while.

I don’t think our kids have that choice most of the time considering what’s offered as entertainment nowadays, I Love NY, Flavor Of Love, ad nauseum.

I make a habit of not trying to “claim” people who don’t want to be “claimed”…like Tiger. He can be whatever he decides in his head that he wants to be. That’s his issue. And if people like Fuzzy and this latest racist “friend” don’t prove to him that they consider him Black…nothing we say is going to make any difference anyway.

I say, all Blacks need to bond together and take all our wealth, influence and invention back to Africa and build up our land like we have AMERICA, cause we will never be equal and Whites will always feel as though they own this country. Blacks make this country, that’s why there still afraid of us even in 2008. I can’t stand the act, that we as Blacks seem so comfortable, and relaxed. We rallied for the Jena 6, but Michael Bell still ended up with time (18 months), and we just said and did nothing. We showed them…..

@Jamal #105

I’m going to ignore your “grow up” and offer you the following explanation.

I wouldn’t go get my third grader to handle a problem that I’m having at work. He isn’t qualified to do it. Al Sharpton exists for people who don’t know what else to do except march. I have practiced as a civil rights attorney. If the police put their hands on me or anyone in my famiily, when I finished suing the crap out of the city, I would retire.

Al Sharpton is the same man who demanded that Imus be fired then turned around and said he believed that Imus deserved a second chance…so why campaign to put a bandaid on a huge gaping wound that is bleeding as profusely as racism–then when its barely formed a scab, say “ok….its fixed now”. He is NOT my spokesman. (and I swear most blacks were just mad because he used the word “nappy headed” and god knows that is worse than being called a ho, right? THAT’s sick”.)

Al Sharpton is an embarrasment, because he, like many blacks today, is DELUSIONAL. Let me let you in on a little secret, the reason these things keep happening is because this country, and most of the people in it, are RACISTS and racists don’t care about Al Sharpton’s bama, perm-wearing, inarticulate behind or what he has to say. He is a cartoon. He is going to jump up and down everytime something that even hints of a race issue comes up and by overdoing it, he loses credibility.

However, even racists respond to getting hit in the pockets. They will respond to protect their MONEY. The Montgomery bus boycott was successful for the money the boycott cost the city. Hit them in the pockets.

Pick and choose your fights. Choose them based on strategy and use the best tools at your disposal.
Crying to your oppressor asking him to stop oppressing you is an idiots move.

Finally, I only hate one thing—voluntary ignorance. I hate THAT with a passion.

And I hate the fact that we as a people are so horribly insecure, that we are still wanting racists to validate our existence by asking them to only say “nice” things while underneath they continue to pull the strings that destroy lives.

In my opinion, Al Sharpton is part of the problem, not the solution.

I hope that explanation is enough for you. If not, so be it. It does not change the fact that I do not appoint or allow a person who I think is incapable of the act, to speak for me.

Why are we so upset at this woman using the term “lynch”?! Is it because she’s white?!

EVERYDAY, and I mean EVERYDAY, on a bus, on a train, on the streets, in the classroom, at home, you name it, you’ll hear it. Blacks, young and old, calling each other NIGGER, NIGGA, NICCA, NUGGA . . .and I bet NONE of you pull the coat tails of the people using it, hell you might be saying it. When you know your history, ain’t nothing cute and cool about using the word . . .our ancestors took whippings and die fighting not to be called a nigger!!!!!

You can’t better a class of people, if you can’t even take the time to educate, get an education and lift up your own people or yourself! SOMEONE here made reference to “hisself” there is no such word as “HISSELF”!!!

Why are people upset because this woman use the term “lynch”. Is it because she’s white?! Well that’s an obvious answer, don’t know why I asked.

EVERYDAY, and I mean EVERYY DAYY (with emphasis), on a bus, on the streets, in the classroom, in the club, hell probably even in some of your households, the “N” word is used like a second language. Raise your hand if you pull the coat tails of people using the word . . .hmmm, I don’t see any hands raised.

Do you know that our ancestors endured whippings and died fighting because of the “N” word. Until we can get our own backyards in check, don’t be whining and holler about use of words that ‘offend’ us because we use the same words we are complaining about.

We need to get educated and educate our people first. Shoot, somebody on here used the word “HISSELF” . .there is no such word as “HISSELF” and you are trying to make a statement. Oh pleaseeeee!!!

I could care less about Tiger Woods bougie, white-kissing, uncle-tom ass. But I don’t tolerate what that cracker bitch said even more than I tolerate what that old gray-ass wolf Don Imus said. She knows exactly what lynching is that’s why she said it. If she didn’t mean to be offensive and racist then why did she say it? How come she couldn’t say “Take him in a back alley and beat him up?” that would of been a whole lot better plus racist offense wouldn’t even been thought of. Instead she used the word LYNCH, so common sense would tell somebody especially a BLACK PERSON, that it wasn’t right.

Somebody knew it wasn’t right that’s why the situation was brought to the public, while she’s being suspended in the process. But being suspended for two weeks aint shit…I say she should either get fired or suspended for a very long time so she can know that what she said wasn’t cool. But you know what that’s all she’ll get is two weeks and two weeks goes by very fucking fast. She’ll be back on the station like nothing ever happen. Most of this American country is racist anyway, only because the majority of people in it are white. If it wasn’t so then we wouldn’t be having this discussion as we speak. I’m not saying that every white people is racist, that would be ignorant but alot of them don’t care, and especially if the so-called black man aka Tiger Woods don’t care, why should they? Nobody owns America if tiger wanted her punished, she would of been punished i.e. fired.

After all Tiger married one of her, made his money and still making it, wasn’t lynched, don’t think he’s black so why should he really give a damn. My advice is don’t support anything an uncle-tom does.

Yes, that’s exactly what I’m saying, sis/brother. From a purely pragmatic perspective, why wouldn’t I disagree. Towards the end of his life, even he disagreed with what he was tricked into doing. What has changed since that movement? It’s like if I gave you two glasses and filled them each with 1/2 glass worth of water. You can pour one glass into another glass and trick yourself into thinking that you have more water but your still stuck at the same place that you started. That’s what the civil rights movement was about, getting black people to view perception as reality and effort as gain. I’m not going to go deep into the whole King thing because it’s a touchy topic and honestly, he has surpassed Christ in the minds of our people. King’s memorial day is coming up and I’ll state my opinion on the man then, if it be the Lord’s Will.

As far as Na’im Akbar is concerned, I’ve heard of him faintly but I’ve never read any of his books. I’m not really into Afrocentricity. I read those books when I was a teenager and they’re really a hustle. I still have them and peruse them for edification on the history of the Africans but that’s about all they’re worth. Diop’s books are good and Van Sertima’s books are excellent. The best black history books, in my opinion, are the ones by J.A. Rogers and also “Ancient and Modern Briton” Vols. I & II by David MacRitchie. There’s a market for fabricating black history and, in my opinion, many of these “Afrocentrists” fill that void by trying to claim history that doesn’t apply to our people or trying to make us feel like we’re a part of something. Things like “kwanzaa” and these other doctrines are usually an amalgamation of different religions and pagan holidays that have nothing to do with anything of substance except satanism. These same men will tell you that the Bible is the white man’s book but they cannot really ascertain where our people came from without trying to abduct some remote African civilization’s accomplishments. They’ll also tell you that there are Babylonian, Nubian, and Egyptian records that precede the Bible but they’re actually giving credence to the scriptures by doing that. These Afrocentrist brothers and sisters don’t understand that the caucasian would rather we think that we came from Africa than acknowledge who we actually are.

#88- You said it! It gets so tired when I see these previews for movies and it’s
something that brings a negative demeanor to African American/ Black People. Sometimes, I still believe that the movie industry is still living in this saga where Mammy, Pappy, Jezebel and Sapphire are the only characters that the black man/ black woman is allowed to play.

#5- I can partially understand what you are saying about Texas. However, I believe that there are a lot more states ((and countries)) that are in the same boat. For example, I live in ARKANSAS. I cant tell you how much crap goes on daily where racism involved. There is not a town in this state where you can go and think that you are not being looked at cause of your race. For example, when ever we go to visit family ((in a town that is majority black)), there is this tension in the air… and they still talk to you like, “Can I help you gal?” And it’s not just here in the US. My uncle went to Egypt with his Frats. Some of the people wouldnt help some of his LB’s b/c if their skin was too light, then they automatically had hate towards them. The list could go on and on… but I’m just saying, racism is a global situation.

{{# 44- The world is coming to an end and people are not paying attention, especially when we get breaking news from regular scheduled programs that we are watching stating that Britnay Spears was put in Cedar hospital and blah blah, who cares about Britney? I feel for her children and her mental state of mind but its not a conrcen that should have not been interrupted to let the world know!}}— I know that’s right. Look at this weather. To start the year last tues, the high here was 24 degerees. Then, monday, the high was close to 75 w/ tornadoes were falling out of the sky like crazy, and now it’s falling back down to 45. People are disappearing and dying very often. So many dif. wars are going on (not just overseas but within this country). The signs are def. there!!!

I had to stop and look check for today’s date. ITS ONLY JAN 10TH 2008 AND PEOPLE ARE ALREADY SHOWING THEIR TAIL! I hope they didnt make any New Year’s goals to not be ignorant. STOP THE HATE & MAKE IT A GREAT 2008!!! :-)

The winner of Master’s Golf Tournament gets to select the banquet dinner for the following year! Here’s what happened when Tiger won his first Master’s:

Fuzzy Zoeller’s (old white dude) comments at the Masters were: “That little boy is driving well and he’s putting well. He’s doing everything it takes to win. So, you know what you guys do when he gets in here? You pat him on the back and say congratulations and enjoy it and tell him not serve fried chicken next year. Got it?”

Then Zoeller smiled, snapped his fingers, and walked away. Then he turned and added, “or collard greens or whatever the hell they serve.”

=================================================

Tiger played it down as no big deal!

When his father use to sneak him onto the all-white gold courses where he worked, Tiger said that what hurt him most was the racial slurs he was called as a young child! So, he learned to fight on the golf course rather than defend himself for having dark skin! His dad married an Asian woman and kept him from black people! So, its easy for him to disassociate his fathers culture, but two of his closest friends are Michael Jordan and Charles Barkeley!

Tiger, Obama, Venus and Serena all had to overcome the stereotypes in historically white professions! Trust me, Obama would have to down play such comments also! And, the Williams sisters have some very painful stories they could tell, but their dad, Richard is straight from the hood and he has told a few folks off along the way.

Hell, even Chicken George in “Roots” played it off until he got what he wanted! People have a right to downplay personal attact, but the watchdogs like Al, Tyra and Jesse have their jobs or “callings” as Ms. Banks puts it! This way, everyone can come out refreshed. Imus got his job back, the Rutgers women got national praise, Al got to tell Imus off, and the standards for injustice were tested for the better!

This is why Hip-Hop is so powerful! Rappers, chickenheads and monguls can get what they want without dancing to anyones music! They call the shots! Even CL has to pull back a photo of Rihanna every now and then. Blogs have to be closed when things get too carried away! And, as we know…the rappers and chickenheads take it way to far sometimes! “Criminals Gone Wild”! WTF?

Kelly Tilghman was wrong to talk about “lynching” and she got put in check! When she talks about Tiger in the future, she will always be careful selecting her words! That’s the learning curve to gaining mutual respect!

Developing…

I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion but some of the comments about Al Sharpton I think are uncalled for. I’m glad he stood up and said something regarding Kelly’s remarks. Some of the comments I’m reading act like they could care less with what she said. I don’t think Al Sharpton should let her get away with what she said because if he never said anything I’m sure herself and other white people would think it’s okay to say whatever they want to about black people. I don’t understand why she thought it was okay to say lynch anyways. With everything that’s happening in this country regarding the remarks made by Don Imus and Michael Richards plus the Jena 6 situation I don’t understand why she would say the word lynch. I could see if she said to beat up or something like that but what she said was racist and I think she should be fired for it.

I disagree with #1. I believe that it takes a person of awesome character to recognize these things for what they are…….unabashed intimidation of the black race. I mean, who is this lady, anyway? Has she accomplished anything anywhere near what Tiger Woods has accomplished? She is an ignorant white woman. I come in contact with a lot of those kinds of people daily. But you learn how to recognize it for what it is, and keep going. Tiger isn’t worried about a stupid comment; it doesn’t phase him. Look at the source of where the comment came from! Her saying all kinds of stupid things about him isn’t going to change the fact that Tiger Woods IS who he is, and her ignorance can never diminish what he has accomplished. An ignorant person only has the very basest of weapons to fight a soldier with, and he or she knows that they can never win. She made herself, and her race, look stupid. We all must begin doing the same thing. Let these people look like the asses that they are all on their own, while putting our energies into making sure that they don’t take away our chances to enjoy the same freedoms, rights, and privileges that they do, by passing laws and denying us rights that our forefathers gave their lives for us to take advantage of.

Like someone said this is not 1958 it is 2008 and racism still extist which is sad.

Tiger Woods -you are still a black man, stop saying that you are cablasaisan or whatever you call it. In America if a mixed race person that has black blood in them, they are still consider black whether they’re biracial, octoroon, qaudroon, or look like a white person like Jael from America’s Next Top Model. Tiger stop kissing white people’s asses because they do not care about you.

That white woman know she was wrong for saying what she said, but does she care no.

I hope one day that Tiger’s daugther or future children bring home a black person and have some black children. That also goes for the octoroons, quadroons or people that look like Jael from ANTM.

YOU ARE RIGHT! However, even thought UNCLE TOMMY TIGER let her off the hook, the man saying “take him in a back alley” and her completing the visual with “and lynch” him is serious.

That is why I will NEVER support Tiger Woods. He is a COON in the highest order.
If it weren’t for the blood, sweat and tears of HARRIET TUBMAN, EMMIT TILL, MEDGAR, MALCOLM, SAARTJIE BAARTMAN, ELIJAH McCOY, DUBOIS, WALTER WHITE, HOLIDAY, ELLA, ETC. this CamblaCOON Woods wouldn’t be able to walk on a golf course.

No one is asking The CamblaCoon to say he is black, but for f*cks sake, if someone talks about lynching you ass, address the issue.

The sad part is that he is a multimillionaire and may never be caught on a dirt road in Mississippi or Birmingham by an angry white mob. So I guess he doesn’t have to care.

I pray for the day this CamblaCoon gets his N*gg*er Moment!! In time my friends… in time…

Ok. Let me silence some of this drama over what that woman said. I usually just read everyone’s opinion but I didn’t finish the first page before getting a little heated. First, you must know the whole story before giving an opinion. Basically, the woman’s co-anchor stated that some of the young newbies to golf should gang up on Tiger so they would have a chance at winning. His female co-anchor interrupted and ended his statement while laughing and said, “yeah… they should take him to a back alley and lynch him.”

Now I do feel she used the wrong word. If she would have said take him to a back alley and beat him would people be as mad? The word lynch is what gets people in an uproar. It’s a word that is very sensitve in the black community just like the n-word.

Her personal relationship with Tiger is between them two. Whether he forgives her or not has nothing to do with you or me. I really do think this is a non-issue. And I’m growing even more disgusted with Mr. Al Sharpton. I could think of 100 of things he could be protesting right now other than this b.s.

As far as Tiger considering himself everything under the sun but black. That’s his opinion. I’m not going hold against him something he said years ago. Yeah it sucked, yeah I think its messed up he can’t identify with the black community. But again, that’s on him. Why should I or you be up in arms about that? Tiger accepting his blackness isn’t going to help be prosper, it isn’t going to make my day, or make be feel somehow validated. Who cares?

Please find something else to debate and get pissed about other than race issues. Especially thoses fueled wrongly by the mass media which continues to exacerbate situations by giving Al Sharpton a forum to spew b.s. And trust, I wouldn’t have taken the time to write this if I wasn’t a member of the media and see how things work. I love what I do but I hate those who are irresponsible when it comes to journalism. Wake up people… get the facts from multiple sources before opening your mouths. And still question what you’re reading b/c there always more than two sides to a story. People will respect your opinion more when backed by facts. That will be all.

I sorry but this is ridiculous…she said she was joking the comment was very wrong but he forgave her and overlooked it. I so tired of everything something happens all of a sudden we have to stand up and defend it, I know who and what I am and that’s something that no one can take away from me, no matter what I am. If she said it, yes it’s wrong and she got suspended, so can we get over it. Racism is still around and just because you take away their jobs doesn’t mean thats going to change thier views.

And

I’m so tired of Al Sharpton. He is so quick to jump on the TV and make all these statements whenever he hears something about what someone said. I’m not saying that he’s wrong but why is it that I only see him on the news, in videos, and in pictures at some hip hop party. I don’t think he’s standing up for this because he truly believes in it, it’s because loves being in front of the camera (I sorry but that’s what I think) Why is it that I don’t see him at the schools or at community centers? If you want to better people and help them change do it from where it starts; on the streets, and more importantly with the youth, the future. don’t show you face everything you hear the word “Black.”

I know for a fact that while he’s issuing statements, talking to news reports, and “hanging” with the stars, kids are out there fighting anf joining gangs. I understand his intentions but not what a feel is his need for attention. He want to make the world a better place for everyone, but while he’s on TV trying to better the country, we still have some kids are out their; black, white, hispanic, asain, all races are still our there making it worse.

There’s nothing you can do no to change the older population in America, some may change but the people set in their ways won’t. I feel that the best way to change this country and the world is not to change the older population but teach the youth that racism and all other forms of hate are wrong, and not just against black people but against all races.

Lynching is an extremly racialy charged term. If you live in a America and are too ignorant to know that then that’s on you. If doesn’t matter what your intent was, it is still racist and culturally incencetive - period!

If tiger woods decided to defend himself it would require him acknowledging that whether he likes it or not, the world see’s him a negro, so don’t be surprised that he has swept this along with all of the other racist taunts from the golf community he’s received under the rug.

Lol @ the people saying he’s black even though he’s half asian and trying to validate it by saying white people seeing him as black. Well, woow, I didn’t know some members on here have met every single white person opn earth..The white people I know call children who have a black parent and a nonblack paret multi racial or biracial…not BLACK. That’s what black people do..I think Tiger did the right thing, although I think he should’ve said something because the comment WAS ignorant…but whatever. It’s his life and she probably was trying to be funny and spoke before she though..which I’m sure the majority of us have done..

Oh and one more thing. If you’ve ever uttered the word Nigger/Nigga (there’s no diffference…) then you’re just as guilty as she is so don’t get your panties in a bunch now that a white person’s done it because if DL Hughley had done it, there would be no issues.

TIGER WOODS IS A COON - THE GOLF WORLD URINATES ON HIM!!!

Thursday, January 10, 2008 /

@ #142 dee,

I agree with up up to when you say there is nothing we can do to change the older population. Ummm… were the Jena 6 players “OLDER”??
These were young teenage kids saying that other black students couldn’t sit under a G-d made tree that no man owns. Maybe you should check out the KKK site dedicated to the young white youth who feel disenfranchised because black people are trying to get themselves out of poverty.

I agree we shouldn’t get excited with everything, but there is no room for joking with the word “LYNCHING”!! How come they don’t crack jokes about lynching white folks? Ever notice that when black athlestes are progressing and kicking ass, You notice they always joke around with LYNCHING, MONKEY, NAPPY HEAD HOS, ETC.. and in Tiger’s case, they made jokes about Collard Greens and fried chicken before.
Maybe our black commentators should go on the air and call white players forefathers “RAPISTS, MURDERERS, THIEVES, MOLESTORS”, etc.. I am sure all will agree that we are just joking too..

Every idiot and his brother understands the CONOTATION of LYNCHING.. I am still trying to understand where and how a back alley and lynching got into that conversation…

I am happy that COON Tiger Hoods is not insulted. Why should he be, he ain’t black right? right? But his poor father couldn’t run around the golf course back in the day the way he is, yet Tiger acts all non chalant like these IGNORANT racist references are cute whispers of nothings.

I will pray to G-d every night that this COON gets his rightful N*gg*r moment! G-d ain’t done with Tiger yet. Our ancestors paid a harsh price for his freedom and the least he can do is show some respect!! Tiger doesn’t have to associate with black folks or even accept that he has N*gg*r in his blood, but he damn well better respect the struggle of the African diaspora!
I fife on this Coon!!

Aww. poor Tiger. No matter how far he tries to pull away they just keep reminding him he’s black. Tiger may be more asian than black, but I bet he’s going to be hearing more fried chicken insults than fried rice/lo mein slurs.

TIGER WOODS IS A COON - THE GOLF WORLD URINATES ON HIM!!!

Thursday, January 10, 2008 /

@ #114,

You are either white and angry or black and dumb, either way, you are irrelevant!!

Fact, if Al Sharpton doesn’t do what he does, there would be more dead black men at the hands of cops, the air waves would be rampant with the Don Imuses and racist repukes.

Like Jamal said, Al is there when no one else is. Al discusses all the issues, but the media only choses to address the ones that are racially charged.

Why don’t the media show Al talking to kids, or All sitting and praying with families. No they show him talking about things they see no problem with, racism. It is usually things that humiliate black folks no less.

Let’s hope this bitch’s comments don’t cause some poor black person to lose their life in a back alley.

Someone needs to please tell Al Sharpton to sit down and be quiet. He just thrives off these comments and uses them for his own time in the spotlight. Also why is everyone mad because tiger woods claims his asian heritage too. I have never heard him say I’m not black I’m asian. I’ve heard him say my father is african american and my mother is asian. Correct me if I’m wrong if what he is saying is untrue.

Al Sharpton need to sit his *** down. Im getting tired of this. They friends, friends make inappropiate jokes sometimes. Ish like this is one of the reasons racism still exists. Stop feeding a fire when its tryna go out dammn

160.

Yes!

Thursday, January 10, 2008 /

First and foremost, Al Sharpton needs to sit his old flashy, black ass down. He is so ignorant, racist, and sheltered. He acts like Blacks are the only ones that exist in this world. It’s not all about Black equal rights–It’s about positive ethical choices. As he is on the television, I am ashamed to see that man represent African-Americans in media with that processed ass hair (shows you how much he denies his image).

He has done nothing but play the race card in cases where African-Americans have gotten tangled up in the law; and believe me, it’s getting old.

For the newscaster: she needs to understand that when one is communicating to the public via television, one should be aware of expressions that might offend certain groups. I do, however, feel that she should take responsibility of her actions. I gagged when I heard that, and I was offended.

In general, these newscasters and television personalities need to take a course in ethics and diversity. Whites are not the only group that play golf.

MS. HEAD, SHE DESERVES TO HAVE THAT NAME, I BET IT APPLIED TO HER LITERALLY WHEN SHE WAS YOUNGER. AN ELDERLY PERSON ATTACKING SOMEONE WITH A 2X4, THIS SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING FROM RICKY SMILEY’S COMEDY, I HOPE THAT IS THE CASE AND NOT REAL. THAT OLD WOMAN MUST HAVE HAD A FLASH BACK TO JIM CROW, SHE HAS SOME MENTAL ISSUES BEYOND BEING A RACIST.

I SEE THAT AL HAS A GIG AGAIN-LET ME STOP. I DON’T THINK THAT THE ANNOUNCER MEANT ANY HARM, SHE DID NOT SAY THE N-WORD. WHY ARE WE SO SENSITIVE ABOUT EVERYTHING. TIGER IS CABLASIAN OR SOMETHING, SO THE BLA WAS OFFENED NOT THE CA OR THE ASIAN-LET ME SHUSH.

I wish Al S would sit the phuck down. Your theatrics are making light of a very serious issue. I do not know this woman from a hole in the wall but anyone could see the chick was joking. Does that make it funny, hell no. She probaly isnt racist just a effin idiot with no internal filter. As for Tiger, lol at not being black but still having black problems. Its good to embrace your heritage but do not get too comfortable as the old boys club will always consider you a colored boy who happens to have skills. Harsh but true. May you have continued success in the future brother because you truly are the best at what you do.

Well, he is black whether he likes it or not. I think he’s funny(nuts really). Look at his logic. I am not black, Kelly is my good friend and she knows I am not black. So, therefore the lynch comment does not offend me because I am not black. He is a disgrace to us, we are proud of who we are, and we wish we didnt have to claim him and his ignorance.. And everytime I see a Michael Jackson or a Tiger, I cringe, knowing that racism has made some of us hate ourselves.

I am also mixed as he is, My father is Korean and Black, My mother is Black, White, and Indian. I am a little lighter than Tiger and you can tell i am mixed with something also. But HELLO, I am obviously black. I am not confused when i get the questionaire referring to ethnicity, only one needs to be checked. There is a deep connection that we share as black people, we have all and still do experience racism in our everyday lives. Until racism is eliminated it needs to be called out everytime it rears it’s head. Because White people love to pretend racism doesn’t exist or it is a blue moon occurence. YOU become a Tiger Woods and a Michael Jackson whenever you ignore it… Thank God for Al Sharpton.

I don’t understand why someone in her position did not know that lynching , in this country, are almost always connected to blacks. I think that in America, history of other cultures as well as black history should be mandatory in order to graduate from college. We need to learn how to have compassion for what others have suffered at the hands of americans, so that history won’t repeat itself or worse.

I don’t fully understand why it is that white people think they can say whatever they want. of all the words this small minded idiot could have chosen, she picked lynch. a verbal reminder of the darkest times in america for Black people. I don’t care about a piss poor apology, she said what she felt and she meant it. she’d probably enjoy hearing that he had been lynched. a lot of them would, but it ain’t happenin. things like this make me very aware of the way things are. nothing has really changed; we are still seen as second cass living hyphnated experieces and beating them at their own games. LONG LIVE THE TRIUMPH OF THE BLACK ATHLETE.

Black people need to get the chip of intolerance for biracialism off their collective shoulder. If Tiger Woods doesn’t want to his OWN MOTHER and the ages of rich history she comes from just because so many of you are ignorant enough to think that “a drop of Black blood makes you Black,” (that school of thought, by the way, was actually begun to identify qualifications for exclusion from the white race–at that time equivalent to exclusion from the human family) then I congratulate the man for being true to himself, respectful of his family, and aware enough to realize the importance of being able to function as a GLOBAL CITIZEN. Please educate yourselves.

I hate visting that website, perezhilton, because there’s always someone making a racist comment whenever a news item is related to a black person. Why are we here suffering from all this injustice and getting het up over issues such as these that DON’T EXIST IN AFRICA?! We’ve got our own people who love us, our own beautiful country, lets go back.
