We want to personally thank you all who have taken the time to inform yourselves of the situation in Haiti and generously donating to organizations such as the Lambi Fund.
We received an e-mail from Karen Ashmore, Executive Director of the Lambi Fund of Haiti, and she said the organization has received lots of website donations today from you all. That is great! The Lambi Fund partners with communities to become sustainable so that they can support and feed their families and not rely on food aid charity, which can create an unhealthy dependence.
Malnutrition and poverty are concerns in Haiti, home to the first independent black republic, especially for the many peasants living in the countryside. But there is hope.
According to Ashmore:
The best way an individual can help is to contribute to groups that work in true partnership with Haitians to become socially, economically and politically empowered. Lambi Fund is by far one of the best organizations to address these issues. It is one of the best models for creating change and sustainability while working for improved economic conditions and increased food availability.
Additionally, the organization earned a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, which means they are both fiscally responsible and true to their mission.
There is a god cause im just sitting here thinking of away and low and behold this shows up…Thanks concreteloop i will be checking that out and send in my donations…Good looking out

CL – why not consider a program to showcase new artists and contribute to this cause. It’s no doubt the CL has a wide reach – up and coming artists could be featured as long as they make a reasonable donation to the cause.
I know that’s not the mission or purpose of your site, but it could help shine light on the need in Haiti and give an up an coming artist some shine. Just something to consider.

Being a proud haitian i am saying thanks on behalf of all of us because i believe this could help a lot of people in need. the problem with haiti is that the more well off group often does not do anything to help the lower class because of sometimes stupid prejudice and i cannot say that i have been completely innocent when it comes to that. But if we give it the attention it deserves maybe more people will get involve. so again thanks for taking the time to post this.
Growing up I remember that Haitians were the most mocked group of people throughout most neighborhoods. Worst yet, they had the smallest numbers when it came to the immigrant population. It was bad enough being an awkward kid but some of the Haitians I went to school with were treated so badly. And I’m not saying that I never participated in some of the jokes because at the time it was the thing to do. But as I got older and made Haitian friends I realized that these people are really no different than us. They’re Black, they have African ancestry and they fought to gain their freedom from slavery and servitude. Even now that I’m grown I still don’t get why Haitians are reviled — especially by other Blacks.
I wonder if the next President will finally put an end to all this hate against this country? Or, will he/she continue to ignore them like so many before them have done (especially the last one). This is really sad. Haiti is in America’s back yard and yet they get treated like deviants — and all because of what? A tie to Cuba (amongst other things)? But even the Cubans get treated better. Shame. Pray for these people ya’ll. They need it for real.
I think that we all should help the people in Haiti.

Haiti was the first independent Black Republic in THE WORLD.
They are NOT to blame for the economic situation they are in. Yes they have had despotic leaders from their own country BUT they were punished for being black and fighting against the IMPERIALIST (FRANCE) to gain their independence and as such they were punished and still being punished for that.
Toussaint L’Ouverture started the revolution in about 1791 and it continued till the first successful slave rebellion ended in 1804 and they were granted freedom.
France refused to recognize Haiti’s independence until it agreed to pay an indemnity of 150 million francs, to compensate for the losses of French planters in the revolutions, in 1833. Payment of this indemnity brought the government deeply in debt and crippled the country’s economy.
People everything has a root cause. Help our brothers and sisters in Haiti. They showed the rest of their African brothers in the diaspora that fighting brings freedom and they are STILL paying for that bravery. Even now American Airlines charges exhorbitant above normal prices for flights out of Haiti and there are many embargos against trade, goods ….. so many other things.
The haitian aren’t really feeling american blacks. Quite honestly i have personally experienced a lot of bullshit from them, ain’t feeling them either.
@ 23, same here in NY they aren’t feeling american blacks so I say let them eat whatever. We have our own brothers that need help, we always helping everybody but ourselves. Enough is a enough. Thank you concrete loop. I am Haitian/Irish. I send my relatives and friends a little something every week. It is a dire situation, and this definitely needs to go on the forefront. Children are dying, and we in the states are very spoiled. I hope people open their eyes and know that their fellow man is in dire straits. I know they will be more than grateful for any help people can send their way.
