I guess I have to keep in mind that the guy who did the video never directed one in the US, maybe that is why it is so different to me. I wish there was more dancing in the video, but I’m glad she stepped outsided the box and did something different from what everybody else is doing. Her voice is so enhance by a synthesizer i thought T pain was on the song. SMH here comes the lip sync because we know she cant reproduce this live on stage. That concept of the video has noting to do with the lyrics of the song. Janet is a pop legend, and has long earned her right not to be compared to every young female artist with a nice body and a microphone.

Longevity is the most important element of artistry. Youth, glamour and “it girl” status is quite inconseuqential in the long run. When all of the endorsement deals, clothing and perfume lines succumb, all that will matter is if the industry still respects you and wants to hear your music.

Again, Janet is already an established legend-there will be movies made, and books written, about her life. She has accomplished so much, and her star identity is so cemented in the entertainment industry, that it does not even matter if her album does flop. This shit is just extra for her.

I understand that there are young posters on here who will continue to be irreverent and try to dismiss Janet as a has-been, but if it wasn’t for what Janet ‘has been’ none of these younger singers would ever ‘have been’.

I’m an avid Britney Spears fan (yeah, I said Britney!), but I still show love for those that came before her and made it possible for her to make the impact on the music world that she has. Ciara, Beyonce, Rihanna etc. are all marketed under the image that Janet and Madonna made popular in the 80’s. It didn’t take record labels long to realize what a “cash cow” a pretty woman who can dance seductively can be. And ever since, female artists have been recycling that formula for success.

Don’t you all understand that if it wasn’t for Janet and Madonna these young chicks may never have thought to incorporate tightly choreographed, sexy dance moves into their performances and videos? Or, if they were able to think of it, they probably wouldn’t have had the balls to actually go through with such a risky new routine (well, Britney might’ve had the balls cause she down for whateva, lol). The whole belly-showing, hair-tossing,headset-wearing, body-gyrating performance schtick came from those two.

Janet is a pioneer. You can hate it, but you damn sure can’t stop it.

1.) Janet’s voice is synthetically enhanced on many songs, but not on every song. She has several ballads where her voice is front, center and moderately captivating.

2.)She may opt to lip-synch or ad-lib during her performance, so as not to distract from the computerized appeal of the song with breathy vocals. Many singer/dancers do this. Beyonce has and even Christina Aguilera (who can blow better than all of em) has.

3.)I agree the concept doesn’t have an obvious relationship with the lyrics of the song. Neither do any of Missy Elliott’s videos, but they’re still the hottest.

I watched it last night after a nutty day at work (I was in a pissy mood) and thought: “hmmmm…ok Janet…I’m a stan so…ok…”.

Then I watched it again after I worked out and got the funk out of my attitude and thought ” Damn….this is unique….Damn….that looks like a b-boy battle in space (breakdance battle for you “youngins”) That’s hot.

Then after I did my 5 am workout I watched it again when I sat down to check my emails and I thought: ” You GO GIRL! that’s sexy sexy sexy! ”

Ok im not sure what to make of this video i like the dancing and the song but i think thats about it, as for the concept of the video its kinda weird. I think i was hoping for something a lil bit better, but im still rooting for her.

It really seems that Janet went back to her old formula from 20 years ago, all black clothes,nice dance number, the build up to the dance number, and there is nothing wrong with that. I like the song but the video didn’t do her much justice. I have to say I liked the end with the red cat suit and dancing lights. I got what they were going for but I think people really want to see her do something that she hasn’t really done before. This concept (futeristic) was done with Busta. Then again that’s hard when you’ve been doing this for awhile. On the bright side this video is better than most of the stuff I’ve been seeing.
