I didn’t personally like the song at first but after a few listens it grows!!! Leona can sing her ass off, theres no doubt there but i dont think she is the next Mariah, Whitney or Beyonce. Leona sings quite weak on her verses but she can belt the fuck out of the end. She doesnt have the skill of Beyonce nor the range of Mariah. I think most girls can hit the notes Leona hits… they’re nothing amazing.

I think she looks very beautiful in this video. Wirh Simon Cowell on her side she cant go wrong.

She’s a beautiful girl with a beautiful voice. But the song is over the top and dated. It does remind me of early MC. Back when Tommy Mattola had control of her image and made her put out an album a year. But I prefer the soulful, hip-hop sampling Mariah myself (think Butterfly, Daydream and TEOM). As far as the video. I think they should have left the other one, though I did like the way the video ended very much. Her CD is a bit boring, but there is no denying she has some power vocals. She has some staying power, but I don’t think we’ll get to see that until the next CD. Everybody that comes out of American Idol, Ex-Factor, whatever, all their first CDs sound exactly the same. It isn’t until the second CD, that we get their real personalities in their music. Give her some time. Support her. she’s going to get nothing but better.

Lets put things into perspective. Anyone raised or who has lived in England know that when they break artists there, they do not pigeon hole them into RnB or make them a black or white artist as it is a very diverse market, unless the artist goes that route intentionally. In America, artists like Christian Millian, Mya and Latoya are geared towards the urban (read: black) market.

Simon cowell just brought out a Mariah(esque) type singer with instant crossover appeal. Even Destiny’s Child had to work her way up from BET with songs like “no no no” and “Bills bills bills”.

In America, people try to divide and conquer so much because they have no mind of their own. Just because she is light skinned weaved out and a singer the first thing people do is compare her to Beyonce. Although in our defense here in America Simon Cowell did call her on the “x factor” the British Beyonce. But he set her up for too much of a fall because too many people (especially some obvious stans on CL) love Beyonce and ALL she has achieved.

Leona is a fresh new artist with a nice voice trying to make it.

I can list at least 10 classic Mariah Carey songs, but there is no Beyonce song which sticks out in my mind as a classic. The girl can dance also, i give her that, and she fly.

What is up with the all the unnecessary pulling down of Leona? She has done incredibly well and is very good live. She still needs some work to bring personality into her music but…why are people acting like Mariah is the best when other people are allowed to shine too? Or is it because she is foreign? OK, another UK contributor. It’s clear, Leona is not a new Whitney, Beyonce etc. Comparing her is unfair and doesn’t allow her to be an artist in her own right. Is the song bland…possibly, but we’re talking about the mainstream here people!! Easy music is what makes hits, real music can still be found in what’s left of the “niche” music scene.

Give Leona the credit she deserves. She’s a great artist, unfortunately she’s going to be marketed through a pop princess lens so we’re not going to see her full range or potential (which I do believe is more than what we’re seeing here).

The new video is a joke, the UK one is far edgier and has real integrity (I really wish the US would handle the fact that the UK can actually make good videos). The comments about her being a “whitey” are horrific. She’s mixed race, which means she is part white. DEAL WITH IT! Haven’t black people been through enough without taking pot shots at each other. She has a beautiful voice. But SORRY, sounds like the wal-mart version of mariah especially in the first couple of seconds of the song when she starts singing. That part just screams MARIAH. I think her whole appeal is to Mariah-esque. You know mixed girl(that looks mostly white), the voice, curly hair. But she can sing better than beyonce(as if thats saying much). I wish her all the success.

Completely agree with 49 and 100. I admit that I had to listen to the song a few times before it actually grew on me, and this video isn’t the greatest, but why all the hate? This girl can ACTUALLY SING, just look at some of her live performances. Not liking her or her music is one thing, but why does she need a nose job? Some people are never satisfied, you wanna moan that people are only in the industry because of their looks, but when someone, who may not be the best looker comes along, they need surgery. Get real. Ain’t no-one perfect.

And all these comparisons, can no-one just be themselves anymore? Someone’s always gotta be compared to (or ‘tryna be’ ) somebody else. I think it’s actually refreshing to see someone with actual talent who’s not gyrating around half-naked on screen, I wish her all the best and hope she does well.

Leona has a great voice. I am American, but I listen to all types of music, including BBC 1 radio, where I first heard Leona. I listened to sample of her cd and its nice. Very pop, like the early Mariah stuff. I think that if she wants to be mainstream in the States, she will have to move away from the pop stuff. She’s only 22. She will grow as an artist, but her first cd is good.

Looks wise I think that she is a cute girl. So she if not perfect. Most people are not. Besides, it should be about her music, not looks
