VIDEO: MONTEL WILLIAMS REPULSED BY ALL THE COVERAGE OF HEATH LEDGER
Tuesday, January 29, 2008
Montel Williams was a guest on ‘FOX and Friends’ over the weekend and the talk show host put them on blast because the F&F crew wanted him to talk about Heath Ledger’s death. Instead, the 22-year US veteran insisted that the media is obsessing about one celebrity death while ignoring the casualties in Iraq. Watch the video above.

ok a real comment. I think anytime someone of a certain fame dies, it’s unbelievable. People already hold these people to higher standards, because of the wealth, and that any problems they have can be treated with money. We don’t know what really happened to him, will we ever? I think our nation has become star obsessed! We have to know who’s dating who, why they broke up, what they ate at the Ivy, it’s this world alot of us will never belong to.
Do the casualties of war deserve more time and respect? Definitely. I would like more than the closing credits of ABC News with quick flashes of photos to pay respect to these men and women who died fighting for our freedom to sit on this blog and dog and thumbs up these celebs everyday. Our values as a country just don’t lie there, and thats the reality of it.

That what I’m talking about Montell, let’s talk about something with substance.. Keith or Heath Ledger has been getting way too much coverage in the media.. Same goes for a hand full of Hollywood celebs that I have never supported or heard of.. Brittney Spears gets coverage on CNN almost everyday.. Why… That’s not world news or news of relavence at all.. It’s about time the media starts talking and covering real news..

Amen Montell!! He literally took the words right out of my mouth. When I first heard about the passing of Heath Ledger all I was seeing was speculation of drug abuse and linking him to negativity when he was one of those you hardly heard about and just living life. Sure people have a past and no one is perfect but dammit he’s a human being. At least they could of said was rest in peace and left it alone. All of those peope should be ashamed of themselves. Keep speaking that truth Montell. Report sum ish that actually affect our people. They will learn to do unto others as others will do unto them….

This isn’t going to sound right…. but….
We’ve been hearing about Iraq since 2003. After awhile it feels like it’s the same sad and depressing news over and over and over again…after awhile, unfortunately, nothing is really shocking anymore when it comes to the war. As much as I hate to say it, it’s almost predictable. Heath Ledger’s death is something no one really saw coming…so the fact that it was broadcast everywhere kind of made sense.
I definitely agree that the media needs to get it’s priorities in order when it comes to reporting on entertainment news versus real (”real” as in stuff that matters) news. It’s almost disgusting how Paris and Britney (look! they don’t even need last names!) have seemed to take over news within the past year and how they just soak up the news with, um, shit. We - the newscasters, journalists, magazine readers, television audiences - all know it’s ridiculous and what we should really be focusing on…we just aren’t.

I agree with him on alot of points. We as a society, have become celebrity obsessed, news programming and even some news papers have taken on the tabloid angle, that’s why many of us are ill informed on the issues. I don’t agree that there is a hunger for tabloid TV,alot of it is being forced down our throats. When a celebrity passes on in the manner of that Heath did,i expect coverage because he was in the public eye,but to speculate on the causes of death and trying sensationlize a tragic story is utterly disgusting. We need more coverage and emphasis on real news, that affects us a a nation

Poster # 7, I am totally with you. I understand what he is trying to say but at the same time, no one has forgotten we are at war and every story that is reported should not be about the war. Heath Ledger got a lot of attention because of the nature of today’s media beast, wrong or not. He was a talented actor who’s work a lot of people enjoyed and he died unexpectedly. There is going to be a lot of coverage.
Now at the end of each of Montell’s show’s from now on, I expect to see something regarding the casualites of war.

I agree with #13. the war in Iraq is ongoing and there is still coverage on the casualities on every news station everyday. we should never stop covering the way because that is information that is important to us all. however, the reason why Heath’s death is getting all the coverage is because he was a famous, young, handsome actor who died under questionable circumstances. that is news. that is why we have an entertainment segment with each news broadcast or the magazines that report celebrity news. there is a market for it. supply and demand is the name of the game. it has only been a week. Montel acting like this coverage has been going on for months. anyway when the SAG awards came on Sunday, guess what the talk of Hollywood was then? every story has its cycle …

They dont talk about who died in Iraq as much as they have been talking about HEATH. I mean if you didint know who he was, you probaly do now. I mean its alll over the news. The talk more about that, than real stuff.
I was watching the news this morning and they spent two seconds talking about a lady that was shot in the stomach and her ONE YEAR OLD was shot in the face. The baby died and the mother is in Critical Condition. THen they go straight to Entertainment and spent 10 minutes talking about Heath, and the Sag awards, and blah blah blah.
Its gotten crazy!

I bet Montell wouldnt be bitching about the coverage of Heath Ledgers death if it was his Beloved Sylvia brown who had died.
if montel really gave a damn about the war in iraq or the troops, he would have lots and lots of episodes of his show talkin about them and exposing the things they have to deal with during and or after their time in iraq.
instead he chooses to show episodes about ghosts, sylvia brown, cooks and all this other bullshit. so montel cut the crap. if u dont feel the troops are getting enough attention from the media..then USE UR TLAK SHOW TO GIVE IT TO THEM.

Being a former serviceman himself, I am sure Montel has a higher sensitivity than most people on this matter. He is definitely on point. I can understand the celebrity news shows being focused on this, that’s what they do. I think his issue is the world and national news is overblown with Heath Ledger’s death. He could probably say the same about all the stories about Britney too, but since it has been all about Heath, that’s where he directed his comment.

I agree with the poster that said we can hold 2 things in our heads at one time. Montel needs to get off his high horse because the fact is that on any given day if I were to turn to his show, what would I see? Something on the troops in Iraq? No — it would be that old long-fingernailed hag Sylvia Browne giving more failed predictions.
If you want to say something about the coverage of Ledger’s death, Montel, so be it, but don’t drag the troops into it. Fake ass faker. Same as people saying that CL shouldn’t post on Gabrielle Union or Megan Good when celebrity gossip is what you came here for in the first place. LOL!
The thing I do hate that the media does is ask all these unrelated celebrities stuff about other celebrities. I don’t really want to hear Donny Osmond’s opinion on Jamie Lynn Spear’s pregnancy. They do it with such fake concern it gets on my nerves. But anyhoo….

If Brittany were any normal blk woman walking the street, driving the same kind of car and speaking in a “British” accent, she would be locked up by now. It’s funny how the media keeps saying that its “bizarre” that Brittany is speaking with a British accent now.
They ain’t said shit about Tina Turner speaking the same way and she’s from Nutbush, Tennessee.
Way to go Montel.

The only thing people want to hear about the war is that: IT’S OVER!
The media is obsessed with celebs and it helps ratings. They will get more ratings over a death of a celeb or Britney Spears (if i see her one more time I will scream). Plus they repeat the same thing every hour on the hour. It’s like if you don’t have any new development then move on to another story. No need to keep repeating the same thing over and over and over again

#13-
Heaths death is something that we saw coming. He tried to commit suicide last year when him and Michelle Williams first broke up. That’s why folks are speculating that he committed suicide this time.
The sad part is, that I even know all this. But trust, I didn’t get this information from MTV or CL. I got it from CNN!!! I kind of feel what you’re saying. We have been hearing about dead soldiers since 2003. But there has to be some other news more relevant than a celebrities death. It should get some coverage, but it really shouldn’t be a top story for 4 days straight. The media is celebrity obsessed. Just think about all the attention Britany Spears got with her divorce from K Fed and the kids being taken away and whatnot. And then what about her sister? I mean, people get a divorce every day. 16 year old girls get pregnant all the time. So why do you have to substitute real news for this crap? That’s just not right.

Yes, it was sad to see this young talented actor die so suddenly and tragically.
The media really needs to just leave this Heath’s Family, Michelle and his daughter alone, by respecting his memory and pull the plug on the story. Its not like they are honoring him anyway….villanizing him as a drug addict, interviewing women he messed with after he and Michelle split…what type of Bulls**t is that??? Just so all these stupid gossip shows can fill up their half hour slots in the primetime line up.
Leave that to the stupid industry limelight hoggers with their DUI’s and other offenses to society!!!
As for Montell …..I agree with him….but I also have a question about the real reason why the war should be ended…
Because our troops are dying??? Or because the troops are killing thousands of innocent civilians out there????
I dont think the next generation should go off to die based off Our Asshole of a President’s lies…
But why should innocent Men, Women and Children of Iraq be killed in the process, when probably most of the people have nothing to do with any “Weapons of Mass destruction”….
In the words of Lauryn Hill: Know Your Motives and Thoughts!!!!

they don’t talk extensively about every casualty in Iraq simply because there are too many… I’m sure for every reported death, there are thirty mangled and detached limbs…seriously…people they can’t put together… I was told once by a Professor who was in Vietnam that I’d never know the truth about war…that it was a reality I simply couldn’t know…
This is probably because we would panic if we knew exactly what sort of danger we live in as citizens of a nation at war with another…

Why do we care about such people more than our troops whom are fighting for us the people? Those troops care about us the people, more than Brittanys or Paris’ who don’t care about putting underwear. I for the most part agree with Montell…The main reason Heath is still in the news besides being a celebrity is the fact that it was possibly drug related, and his lab report isn’t back yet…like someone else said a death is a death no one person life is more important then another, at the end of the day we are all someones child, father, mother, cousin, uncle etc…they should have at least some kind of minute tribute to the troops, but they need to honor the innocent people who get caught up in the cross fire as well

Thank God somebody is saying it…I bet Fox won’t have him back on for a long time.
One of the responsibilties of the media is not only to provide entertainment, but to also provide the population with important information so that this democratic republic can function.
I get my news from various internet news site, so i consider myself pretty well informed.
But there is still a larger and in most cases older part of the population that gets all of there news from T. V.
If you are looking at the dummy box and all you see is 24 hour celebrity death and Shitney Spears, how in hell are you supposed to be able to make informed decisions, especially with an election coming.
Usually Montell annoys the hell out of me with all his crying, but he was right on point with this one… and I think he turned the tables on them in a very respectful, but unapologetic manner.

Thanks Angel!
I don’t know that i would have heard about this story today had i not visited this site. I appreciate the fact that while i want to know what new music is out or what celebs are wearing, I can also come here and learn whats happening in polititricks and the world at large. (Great reporting on the Election Btw)
Mind you, if I REALLY wanted to know the precise number of war casualites (both troops and civilians alike) than I know i can do my research…listen to NPR…or WBAI…go online or read publications that speak to this issue and the NOT their own agendas…ya know, pumping salacious stories to get viewers or ratings or promote their policitical views…like the “news” and media outlets who are owned by people with specific interests. CORPORATE INTERESTS! I would expect FOX to report the interests of the owners, NOT that of the general public. If its owned by a conservative, then why would they express the real number of deaths when Ruport Murdoch backed a president who signed off on this war to begin with?
The sad part is, we are but a pawn in the game. They (Corporate owned media entities) know that most folk won’t demand a truly FAIR AND BALANCED reporting of the news because we are more concerned with who wore what on the red carpet. I’m no Montel fan. And i dont know if it was in the best taste and time. (THEN WHEN WOULD BE, I ASK?) But atleast someone watching the Heath story in that moment was reminded about the war. Because lets face it, it is NOT the leading story anymore even though thousands of people have died and are STILL dying over there. RIP Heath but his life is of the same value as the last little girl in Iraq who got blown to bits…or the old lady who died in her project apartment because of lack of heat…or the man who got sideswiped on the highway.

Hmm, I wonder if Steve Harvey should have used the time he schemed with his lawyer to trick his ex-wife to “better himself”? Anyway.
If anything about Heath Ledger comes on t.v. now, I turn immediately. The thing with the media is that they don’t know when enough is enough. They have gotten downright disrespectful with the HLedger coverage. They are doing the same thing with the whole “race” issue with this election. They keep saying race shouldn’t matter, but everynight CNN is doing some “special” report on how race and gender are affecting the campaign.
The public gets blamed for being “celebrity obsessed”, but I think it’s the media that’s obsessed. If they stopped talking about celebrities all together, I wouldn’t shed a tear. IMO

I myself served in the Army and was deployed to Iraq back in 04 and it wasnt all pretty, theres stuff goes on over there that dont even get coverage and its like innocent lies just being taken away in vain? I think the media need to stop focusing on someone status, the main point is where someone is going to spend eternity, thats what we all should focus on.

I have to agree with the Montel Williams on this issue. We have become more star obssessed but why is that? Gossip has become the money making resource for a very long time. Magazines such as Star, US Weekly, and The National Inquire get paid because people buy their magazine to hear about Celebrity gossip. The answer is WE the consumers are star struck. Concreteloop is one of the media outlets to celebrity gossip that gets Angel paid because people love to comment on here and are so obssessed. Come on now look at the Rihanna, Kim K., and of course Beyonce get the most hits on gossip blogs because the people love to comment on them even if you hate them you still keep the gossip blogs and other media outlets that broadcast celebrity gossip relevant. I’m sure if Angel didn’t get that much views and responses or people in general not responding to gossip blog, they will diminish because the consumers taste have shifted to something else. This is business folks they base everything off of our likes and dislikes. So what that said quit complaining and do something about it. If you don’t like it, then start by not going on gossip blogs or forums

if you want legit news, not partisan politics then you don’t watch TV. listen to the radio, research the internet. everyone know that the media controls the news and we see what they want us to see.
Gem, i think what that professor told you about never understanding the truth and realty about war is so profound and deeply saddening. obviously, we’re not in iraq everyday, experiencing the devastating toll that war takes on a country. some of us are so far removed from the war since it is not on our soil that we’d rather focus all of our attention on news coverage of the death of a celeb, britney, brad and angelina, beyonce, etc etc, you get the point. i do not think that the media necessarily reflects the ideals and politics of the average american; the media is run by a few privileged people.
on my behalf, i had great admiration and respect for Heath. i am deeply saddened by his passing. a life lost so young and a child left behind is very sad. however, that doesn’t mean that i don’t write to my cousin frequently who is serving his 3rd tour in Iraq. Heath hasn’t taken over my life lol i know what’s going on…i think Montel has a point to a certain degree. we should all do what we can for the troops…writing letters, showing support somehow. just because people are mourning the loss of a public figure (even if he was a celeb, a human being after all, and wasn’t out there fighting for our country)..doesn’t mean that the death of our soldiers aren’t heavy on our minds. my cousin is on my mind 24/7.

I respect your opinion but why are you bringing up something that is so trivial? What does his opinion on the news being obssessed about Heath ledger’s shortcomings got anything to do with him loving white women or praising white women? Come on now you can do better than that.

I’M SORRY THE MAN IS DEAD BUT HE OVERDOSED ON PILLS, IT’S NOT LIKE HE HAD A CHOICE HE COULD HAVE CHOSE TO SAY NO AND GET HELP INSTEAD OF SWALLOWING A HAND FULL OF PILLS. THE PEOPLE IN IRAQ HAVE NO CHOICE.

I don’t think Brotha Montell was trying to disrespect the life lost as much as he was trying to say that there has been 28 deaths of U.S. troops this month alone that most of us have not heard about, and five more since yesterday.Fox News from day one has been a low rent source for news,I’m a former vet too,so I can’t be mad at what he said, because they should have come home a long time ago.

Celebrity’s death and demise is the way the media get paid. US troops dying in WAR don’t pay the bills. When the politicians, Department of Defense and the president of the U.S. don’t let the media photograph coffins or let the American people see what is truly happening in the war, the only reality we have left is Celebrity’s falling from grace. Americans love Reality.
Here are the numbers for the people who really care….

Montel…bruh…stop being a hypocrite. When Aaliyah’s funeral took place the media in New York were all abuzz about who was she, why her fans were mourning her and questioning her celebrity status due to traffic being held up during her funeral. But now you can’t relate cause you weren’t a fan of Heath’s and didn’t know him personally? Ok. And thanks for the reminder about the war, cause clearly I’d forgotten about 9/11 and the lives we continue to loose daily.

That’s precisely the problem. We may not know how many die next week because it isn’t in the news. I don’t even know where to look to find out how many troops die each week, but it should be something that is constantly on our minds because as a country this is a war we’re fighting and losing our brothers and sisters in. The media does force feed us info about celebrities. I really don’t care if Britney screws up her life more…if the media as a whole focused on more important issues we’d be a better society as a whole. I keep hearing about unarmed minority teens being shot in Brooklyn by police officers, and where were the cameras then? I like Heath Ledger as an actor and I wish he didn’t die so tragically but one maybe two days is enough…let’s get back some more important issues.

Montel is trying to get a gold star for giving a shit about the casualties of war.
He needs to stop acting like the world doesn’t know we’re at war. The reality is that people die everyday. Guess what? When you enlist in the army the chances of dying are very high. Why should we be surprised that someone died in battle?! People who fight for this country are honored every day. No death is any more insignificant than the other, but Heath Ledger was a famous actor so why is he surprised it’s getting major news coverage? Anyone could turn on CNN, MSNBC or the Fox News Channel and see how many people died in the war. He just wants camera time to say something “politically correct.” He needs to get a life.

I applaud Montel…..I am a wife of a Active Army Soldier who is due to return to the desert for his 3rd tour in 5 years. There is nothing more important than the men and women serving our country. Could you risk your life for a year and 3 months (which is the norm for any soldier going the desert each time they go) To live without the comforts of home. Could any of you do that and leave your family? A country that you are over there trying to help and their only motivation is to figure out how to kill you. How many Americans can they kill today and our own country doesnt think that there lives are television worthy.. the fact that they are not a celebrity makes their death not sensational enough. I think its sad. Keith Ledger I loved too and his death, maybe natural, is tragic but a reality everyone deals with in life. WAR IS NOT NATURAL OR DYING FROM IT!!!! I am disgusted with our government…that you would allow a idiot to run our country and let him cheat twice to keep that title and you wonder why other countries think we a bunch of selfish lunatics…

Montel told the truth on that one! Sometimes it’s sicken how the the media is so obsessed with celebrites the way that they are. we have lost thousands of soliders, but we never hear who these people are and they never take time out to pay tribute to this people or nothing… every once in a blue moon, they might show a picture of a soldier who died and show his family but the story is less the 10 mins…… but the media takes time out to dedicate a whole show to somebody like Heath Ledger. They did the same thing for Anna Nicole Smith. They talked about her so much when she died, I hated to turn the tv on. What’s crazy is they never talked abut her that much when she was alive.
It’s would be nice to see the media report and pay respect to these people who are losing their lives everyday in the war. I’m not saying that Heath and Anna Niole didnt matter. God bless tem and may they rest in peace, but they go over board with the coverage.

I am sad for his daughter because she will never know him however there are people fighting for us and losing their lives because of “white boy” business and they don’t care who’s life they sacrifice in order to get rich and gain power. What’s really sad about them is they don’t have a choice to just come home…Montel is totally right and I am glad he put those idiots on blast!

I feel that death is sad and tragic for that persons family, friends, co-workers, etc. I feel that celebrities should not be held above “us regular people” in neither life or death.
I served 5 yrs in the military and we do have Soldiers who are continuing to be killed everyday so I can understand Montel ,even though it may not have been appropriate for him to say during that time, I mean he does or did have a talk show he can bring that topic up on. I don’t feel we have to talk about it everyday but we can put more important things on programs like CNN. The Entertainment Tonight shows and etc. should talk about all the celebrity crap (that is so unimportant most of the time) but shows like CNN, Nancy Grace, and etc. should not spend days and weeks talking about celebrities day in and day out when there is so much more stuff people NEED to hear about that is going on.

My ass, “Casualties”, I’m straight up the type of person who will never support war for nothing, the U.S.A. is a bitch for going and killing people, its amazing how ignorant people are. About 300,000+ Iraqies died, women raped by these so called “Soldiers”, and yet we see them being honored for this. People only know whats on the surface but when you do your research you learn more about whats really going on .. Like for example the foods we eat
FDA approves everything, ppl are so unaware of the fact that we consume poisons on the regular. Saddam was put in jail and hanged for the same reason “War Crimes”, Bush did exactly the same thing, but he got away with it. The U.S. need to get there asses out of Iraq, out of Afghanistan, if they really consider themselves the “Leader”, then maybe these idiots can stop spending billions on the war and start helping the people suffering all over the world. Africans, Iraqi’s, Indians, list is endless, theres poverty all over, theres poverty in the U.S., why don’t they focus on these things?? There is no threat, its absolutely ridiculous to even worry about these situations, because remember tomorrow is never promised, your going to die regardless, all in gods hand. A lot of people think that Iraq is being helped, but thats far from the truth, the higher percentage of people want the U.S. troops out, they’ve killed fathers and mothers, they’ve left children to live on there own. NOBODY DESERVES THAT. It’s far more honoring to forgive and forget, and that goes for whatever your religious background is, forgiveness is always +++ the U.S. is taking there anger out on innocent people. Only some actual terrorists die, most are normal everyday people.. not acceptable, to top it all off soldiers are dying for this cause. Anybody with a brain knows that we gotta get outta war, start helping people who need it. I find it so hard to believe that there is even poverty in the U.S. its ridiculous. Anyway just my thoughts.

I agree with Montel! he did what he needed to do to voice his opinion about a subject. Every where I turn I hear something about Heath Ledger this, Heath Ledger that. Personally, if it wasn’t for brokeback mountain, I wouldn’t have known who Heath Ledger was. I think we should focus more on what’s affecting in our nation rather than some man who died from an overdose… let be serious. If he didn’t care enough about himself to take his own life, why should we?
Also I would like to state that Montel is his own character, Montel does what he needs to do to keep his life in check. He has had enough problems of his own ( please wikipedia it for those who do not know… and yes I did say wikipedia.) So he does not have to prove himself to you, In any way, shape, or form. Ya dig!

So if , God Forbid, Keishia Cole had been found dead, nude at the end of her bed with prescription drug bottles on the table it would have been all over the black news media and blogs even today, a week later and people would STILL be talking about it. A week later would Montel be on BET complaining about too much coverage of the sudden death of a celebrity like Keyshia Cole instead of more focus on American casualities? I don’t think so.

I feel Montel has spoken out of turn; heath’s death is still fresh, how dare he! What if his family view this video, what then? While i understand what Montel is trying to say, i think he chose a bad time and platform in which to voice his opinions about the overexposure of celebrities. He should have gracefully bowed out of that conversation and went on to something else.
I think Montel had no grace in handling this situation, and his opinion on this matter would have been better served kept to himself, or at the very least, held over months down the linel; and even then i question it’s admissibility. His comments had a twinge of “so what he died, let’s move on.” And that might hurt those close to heath; let them people grieve as they choose fit, who the fuck is Montel to determine what’s enough coverage, and how much is too much….

Preach Montel!! That’s what Im talking about! I served my country for 4 years and you would be surprised to know how many of my brothers and sisters passed away that you’ve never heard about. You would think that we as the men and women who serve our country that we would be givenn a little bit more dignity and respect due to the fact that we are the ones fighting a war to protect our country… Publicize that. But for a person who plays a role and entertains you gets more respect and publicity. The media has its priorities all messed up! Thats just like with Stepha Henry did they give that as much publicity? No they definitely didn’t. The world is screwed because the media is so consumed with who such and such is dating, what shoes or clothes they wear, but never the things that really matter. Heath Ledger was a good actor and yes he does deserve respect however, give everyday people the same respect. I guess if we as service men and women were out there dancing, acting, and singing instead of serving our country, that when we lose our lives in combat we’d get more respect. Every life is precious so by no means am I saying that Heath’s was any different, but we should all be recognized when we lose our lives. Bless the family and friends of all who have passed away.

We should salute them because the government owns them and they make them do extra tours of duty. Now you have to be almost dead or crazy to come home. It’s a shame. We would rather hear about Britney and her dumb ass instead of Bilary or Barack. It’s a sad state our world is in. God Bless America, because we need it. Here we are on an entertainment website giving our opinions on what this brother said. He was right, we do need to be more informed on the war because the more truth that comes out, ie; how many men and women that are killed, hopefully the more outraged we will become! This war sucks and they need to fall back and come the hell home. We are not truly holding Bush accountable, and he should be. And for the people who are saying that the troops should be commended, I agree. But how about the thousands of police officers out there who confront the real perps you see on a daily basis? I agree with Montel 100%. The media focuses on the wrong things. Paris Hilton going to jail was great, BIG news…Britney Spears going through what she’s going through is such great, BIG news. And now the excessive press on Heath Ledger’s death. With all of the allegations of possible over dose, being depressed and whatnot…has anyone in the media stopped and remember that Heath has a family, particularly his daughter, and friends who loved him very much and how upsetting it is to see and hear this kind of negative press. His little girl is going to grow up one day and read the crap the press wrote about her father. Granted its their job to report things but a little respect and consideration wouldn’t hurt for Heath Ledger, his family and friends. And not to mention folks like Britney Spears who needs to be left alone. Leave these people alone and focus on whats really affecting this country such as the WAR and the men and women who are risking their lives everyday for us.

They always make it seem like the person knew they were going to die (”Check out what WHOMEVER said in their last interview.”) and then they try to blame it on someone else (”If WHOMEVER would have done WHATEVER they could have saved WHOMEVER.”) This is really silly. Can’t a person die in peace and just be gone without all the hooplah?

hes absolutely right. more attention needs to be paid to the people dying in this unneccessary war in iraq we got goin on right now.
also, the media never overglorifies any of our black celebrities that have died. you’ll hear about them for 1 day, and thats it. its been probably a week and we’re still hearin about heath ledger.

SILLY RABBIT #13- I feel you exactly…we can complain all we want to, but we don’t get to decide what is real news. For those who can say that they feel Montel exactly (although I didn’t get to see it), what we get to see in the news is filtered, and honestly everyone is tired of seeing casualties day after day. Does that mean we forget about it…NO. Most people would rather it not be reported on the news day in and day out even though it’s still going on. In that instance…if you expect change…do something about it. Whether you see casualties of war on the news on Monday only or on Monday thru Friday…it won’t change until people get off their asses and do something about it, especially Montel. It’s so easy to complain about something…but then what? I can definitely see both sides of the coin and their is no simple solution to the problem. Talkin about Heath Ledger a little less won’t change how many people get killed in Iraq today. Be upset that we’re over there in a war for whatever reason it may be and can’t take care of the people here in your very country. You can’t not have your house in order and try to go run things in someone elses house. The system is set up in a Lose/Lose situation…somebody pays for it. Until you take a better look at the News as a whole, we will continue to be caught up in the lives of the Britneys and the Paris Hiltons of the world while people everywhere, even down the street from you are starving, being raped, killed, or just plain taken advantaged of and not being heard.

I have so much more respect for Montel Williams now. I used to think he just had a know it all attitude and I agree with him so much. I’m tired of hearing about Brittney Spears Child Endangerment Issues. Her issues are because of her own bad choices. This Ledger dude was probably another actor involved in a drug overdose, who probably have made no impact on society what so ever. I have family in the military also and he makes a very valid point. When there are deaths that are mentioned in Iraq the news is only given about 15 seconds max.

OMG….Some of the ignorance on here is just pathetic….#8 & 16…get real….. I couldn’t even read all these blogs…I just had to shake my head…tsk, tsk
Obviously we all care somewhat about gossip…hence the reason you come to ConcreteLoop BUT to say people have been dying since 03 and to say it so snidley is just INSANE. Every life is valuable. As we have our opinions Montel has his as well….last I checked this IS AMERICA the same country where soldiers & people like MLK died in order for us to live and speak so freely. To bad they don’t sell common sense…Lord knows they’d make a killing!

THANK YOU!! My husband and I had this EXACT same convo Saturday am b/c I too have been disgusted with the coverage he’s getting. I’m sorry for his family and friends and fans, but seriously…that takes up all coverage over the war, the financial situation of the US, the election…?! People care more about celebrities and what’s going on with them than they do a regular joe on the street. True…he touched people through his art and celebrity but at the end of the day…He was a MAN! Not a God. I think that God would be angry with all of this, which is in a way, a form of idolatry. People fly from all over to lay flowers at a doorstep of a man they never met, but won’t give $5 to a homeless man right outside their own house. This way of thinking and doing in our world just lets me know that we cannot continue to exist this way.

And another thing..on the subject of Heath Ledger…I like how the media talks about people who use or abuse prescription drugs like it’s no big deal, especially when the majority of those users are of the pale persuasion, but let it be known…they try to make us look bad all day long like black people are the biggest users and dealers around. What they don’t want you to know is that the biggest drug use in this country is of the prescription kind and it’s users are middle class white americans and their kids. There’s a news worthy story right there, but you know we won’t see that on Fox News.

i never saw it like that but i am saddened for heath’s family.but they are going overboard with the coverage of his death. i was a disgusted about the fact that when ronald reagan died it was all this fanfare for a man who was over 90 yeras old. i work with the elderly. i felt sad when it came out that he had alzheimers because that is a ugly, ugly, disease. but ronald sad to say did not remember who are where he was. his casket was closed because he probably did not look so well. sorry to say. he was above ground for a week before he was buried and i said that is too much for his family to bare. he should have been buried soon as possible. sorry for rambling but i think there should be more coverage on who passes away in iraq. we should know his or her names and ranks. also what kinds of lives they had. let us meet the parents and put flowers and cards out for them. there is nothing worse than losing a child. mainly to murder. yes, those boys and girls are being sent to the slaughter in iraq. even the iraqi people are being sent to the slaughter also. suicide bombs and shit. montell hit the nail on the head. it is okay for a person with fame and money or just money to die from drugs because it is such a “tragedy” but if was “jamal” or “keisha” it would be another dead black person who died from drugs in the “hood” if it was “sally” from the “hood” she would be just another dead ” white girl.” fame and money does not give you brains and common sense. you can not buy morals.

My condolances to Heath Ledger’s family. But Montell is right! Heath Ledger is famous and all this, most people know him, but we need to recognize the troops in Iraq also! If the news is going to tell us who died, then tell us how because all they’ve been talking about is who Heath was and what the THINK happened. I think it’s time for the truth.
Why was Mary Kate the first one the maid or whatever called? That’s strange.
Lets get the truth people!

america is too obsessed with celebrities. freakin celeb dies and everybody on messageboards rip’ing like a mofo. it’s ridiculous. people gonna die everyday. if he wasn’t a celeb we wouldn’t give a rat’s tail about him. we need to prioritize and focus on self and building health and wealth and stop bally-hooing over celebrities are simply employed humans just like every other working class member of society. who gives shiiiit he died? oh well, don’t mean to come off jerky but I don’t care. I didn’t know him. no personal connection to him whatsoever. don’t care he was a great actor because he had absolutely no impact on my life. keeping it moving.

Montel is sooo right (more focus should be geared towards soldiers in Iraq). The media really went to far covering Heath’s death. Heath is a great actor and yes his death was shocking, but they should of left his family and friends alone.

I like Cocrete Loop I think it is entertaining and informative. I feel that the media focuses on sensationalizing the pettiest things the white celebs do and do not accurately or fairly cover real issues. Raise your hand if you lost sleep cuz Paris went to jail! (NOT) I could care less if Britney spoke spanish or had sex with an animal. She is fronting and it is so obvious! She is playing a stupid game and unfortunately her kids may suffer. I bet if the paparazzi/media stopped following her daily and ignored her antics she would “suddenly” be “normal” or sober or whatever….Yall know if it was somebody like Ashanti acting like that we wouldn’t see or hear a darn thing it wouldn’t be covered on CNN or no outlet like that. I appreciate CL for keeping it real and keeping me informed on the comings and goings in Black entertainment and other issues that are important to me.
Thanks Angel and Staff Big ups to all ya’ll! Other blogs could learn from u!

We’re At War..Shit I Wouldn’t Even Be Over There Fighting Such A Bulshit War…Everyone Who Goes Over TO Iraq Knows What To Expect..I Guess America Has Just Gotten Numb To The Whole Situation. And A lot of People Would Ask How’d I Feel If I Had Fam Out There…First Of All, I’d Just Be Prepared For The Worst.

We need Montel. He is possibly the only talk show host/media outlet that’s on our side. He’s not for the government or the media or himself. He is for the people and cares about us all. We need someone like him to connect people and media. He is one of the smartest, most down to earth, caring people on TV. His show is the only talk show i would ever watch. Every other talk show is crap. I really hope Montel is able to get back on the air. This whole situation just shows what kind of stuff the American population has to deal with and we need someone like him to fight for us and the TRUTH
