Seeing that I have nothing else better to do with my life right now (lol), I took the liberty of finding most of the albums she spoofed. I missed a couple but most of them I knew off back who they were.

Sharp eyes! Your references are on point. But I didn’t catch the Patrice Rushen reference - could it be my missing #8 (the album cover where Erykah’s flexing her muscles)?

The only covers I got were Eric B. & Rakim, De La Soul, and The Beatles (and of course John’s cover with Yoko Ono) so I’m so happy some of you broke it down for me! Erykah looks so good in the video, too…especially in the Andre 3000 spoof (or is that an homage to who Andre played an homage to?)…She’s got some shape, huh?

Ms. Bmore, ma & pop don’t have the luxury of offering chain store prices. They buy in bulk for cheaper prices so they can sell cheaper. Though consumers see a benefit in price, they lose the benefit of variety. Retailers like Wal Mart dictate what type of material they will sell, which sometimes conflicts with an artist’s vision. Not to mention, the lack of independent label representation at chain stores because they can’t afford to “pay to play” like a major label. If we don’t support local stores, we’ll be stuck with bullshit these chain stores tell us we “should” buy, instead of having a choice. It’s worth a few extra dollars to continue the tradition of uncensored artistic expression.

@ 116 FOREST

Well put. To add, also try and support those smaller stores which still offer vinyl - it’s still the shyt, y’all!

TRY THIS AT HOME:

If you’re so inclined and have the equipment, burn a cd from your vinyl through your mixer and into your cd burner. Compare the finished result to the sound of a cd burned from your cd player. The result should be a more clear “studio” or live sound from the vinyl as opposed to a more digital i.e. computerized sound from the cd to cd recording. DJ’s prefer vinyl because the bottom end is more pronounced. So basically, for those in the know, a good turntable is still a major component to any sound system.

So to sum up, Erykah’s new joint is made to played on the turntable!!!!!!!

Ms. Badu definitely marches to the beat of a different drummer, she is inovative and creative the way she displays the album covers of talented musical legends that came before her. She is not afraid to be herself, which is reflected in her music and videos

I wonder if Erykah’s teeth hurt. Cuz this video is a straight BITE! This concept was already done like 3-4 years ago for the K-OS’ “Heaven Only Knows” music video.

Dayum I’m late! LOL Just wanted to say that I been digging the song since I first heard it on her myspace page. And now that the video is out, all I have to say is WOW! My girl has done it again. This is why she is one of my favorite singers. And on top of that she is very down to earth. I love you Erykah. And you best believe I will be buying her album on the 26th. I just bought World Wide Underground and Baduzim again last November cause the copies I had was scratched. Erykah is getting that money out of me but she deserves every cent. These other artists need to take note. If you have a album full of great songs, 9/10 your true fans won’t go to the corner store and buy your $hit from Craig and dem. True fans will cop your $hit straight out the store. Once again, LOVE YOU ERYKAH!!
