Another one bites the dust. Just two weeks after Eddie Murphy exchanged vows with Tracey Edmonds in a private—and, as it happens, not legally binding—ceremony in Bora Bora, the couple has separated, according to People.
According to the magazine, the duo called off their union just 14 days after their seaside Jan. 1 nuptials. The breakup followed a less than fairy-tale start, with first days of the newlyweds’ honeymoon marred by screaming matches and arguments that lasted the entire week. According to People, there are no plans for a reconciliation.

“After much consideration and discussion, we have jointly decided that we will forego having a legal ceremony as it is not necessary to define our relationship further,” Murphy and Edmonds tell PEOPLE in an exclusive statement. “While the recent symbolic union in Bora Bora was representative of our deep love, friendship and respect that we have for one another on a spiritual level, we have decided to remain friends.” [ READ MORE @ PEOPLE ]

That’s what they both get for the way that Eddie went about things with his own child and Tracey went along with it without flinching as if she is “that woman” and he would not go there with her. M’kay, the rumor was that she and Babyface divorced because he was gay. I don’t know how true that is, but in that relationship, Tracy was definitely the “man.” She has Type A Personality written all over her. She’s ambitious, and she doesn’t make any excuses or apologies for it.
I think the only difference between Eddie and Babyface is that Eddie was “in your face.” He had Johnnie living in the guest house, like someone said, his live-in mistress. While I’m sure Tracy was okay with being the “beard,’ or covering for Eddie, she would never be down with being openly disrepected, which is probably what happened on the honeymoon. How you gonna bring your mistress as the best man to your wedding? I’m sure Eddie and Johnnie enjoyed their romantic vacation.

Right after his divorce, he jumped on Mel B expecting her to front, things got too deep, she got pregnant, and he acted like he never knew her because, he never really liked her.. she was just supposed to be his public cover.
After the Mel B fiasco, and with Dreamgirls and Oscar buzz coming up, he needed a trophy woman – Tracy was the best choice, because she wanted the publicity too.

So she worried him to death to get married, they had a “play-play wedding” in Bora-Bora… complete with pictures for the press. I read from one of the celebrity news shows that they broke up because one of the wedding guests reported that Eddie yelled at Tracey in public on more than one occassion and that it was very embarrassing. I suspect the fact that it wasn’t a “real ” marriage has a lot to do with finances. Getting married legally would have made her entitled to half of his assets in some states, if they divorced. After forking over half? to his previous wife Nicole, why get married again and risk losing that kind of wealth once more? If so, I understand the commitment ceremony. Especially since THEY knew ahead of time it was not legally binding.. And considering all the stress their relationship has been under, the media scrutiny of the pregnancy, then baby with S Spice and now his faux marriage, it is enough to stress anyone out and perhaps influence the couple to fight with each other. Tracey doesn’t necessarily need any sympathy. She is very intelligent , confdent and powerful, a producer ,and a she is a CEO of Edmonds Management and Yab Yum Music. I doubt very seriously if Eddie enticed her into something with her eyes closed. and vice versa.
Who knows, they both probably knew the marriage was not legal, but couldn’tt take the spastic attention from fans and the media about that fact that it wasn’t real.
