Friedman stated businessmen believe they defend free enterprise when they state business isn’t just out to make a profit, but to also “[promote] desirable ’social’ ends.” He opposed the idea that business possesses social responsibilities: “Only people can have responsibilities,” he declared.
According to Friedman, “there is one and only one social responsibility of business—to use its resources and engage in activities designed to increase its profits so long as it stays within the rules of the game, which is to say, engage in open and free competition without deception or fraud.”
To some degree, I agree with Friedman: every business hopes to make a profit, but I do not believe that is the only intent; businesses can do good and do well (DGADW) at the same time. Continue Reading »
Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Deputy Joy Deleston, 39, and her two daughters, Micaiah, 11, and Jelani, 4, were found late Thursday at their home near Lawrenceville, Ga.
The motive for the killings is still under investigation and according to various news sources, the youngest victim, Jelani was the daughter of rapper Juvenile.
Terrell is being held without bail in the neighboring DeKalb County jail to avoid any potential conflict because his mother worked for Gwinnett County.
Jeff Beaird, who lived across the street from the family, said he often saw Terrell playing basketball or washing his mother’s patrol car in the driveway but doesn’t remember anything out of the ordinary. “It’s so shocking because you don’t expect something like this to happen,” he said.
According to the 2008 Issues Poll, over 5000 Concrete Loop readers are most concerned with the economy (33%), health care (20%) and education (16%).
The other issues listed in the poll included crime, the military, immigration, the environment and foreign relations. Each received single-digit percentages.
As we’ve mentioned numerous times, Concrete Loop hopes you vote based on your personal thoughts and beliefs and how closely those of a presidential candidate relate to your own.
The following information, compiled from the candidates’ websites, offers details on what the major Democratic and Republican candidates would do to stimulate the economy, deal with one of the most critical issues facing millions of Americans–health care–and ensure our children receive the best possible education.
Keep in mind that it is, by no means, complete plans of any candidate. For this reason, a link to each candidate’s stance on the issue has been included.

Check out these new shots of Lauren London and Cassie for the new spring campaign for the Sean John Womens line. The campaign is entitled “Diddy’s Angels Go Supermodel” and was shot in NYC back in December. She was just in Jamaica, and then Dublin and now Paris. Must be nice!
Here is another edition of Rock’d It Better featuring Vivica A. Fox and Mary J. Blige. Vivica wore this Emanuel Ungaro dress at the Swarovski Party in Paris yesterday. Mary wore the same dress back in November at the 2007 American Music Awards. Which lady rocks it better?
Even though this isn’t the first single from Keri Hilson’s debut album, In A Perfect World…, I am so excited that new material is finally leaking from the album. Keri has been working so hard on the debut, which features productions from Timbaland, Polow Da Don, Danjahandz and more. “Get It Girl” is a fun female-empowering, up-tempo track and it’s off Timbaland’s first mobile album for Verizon Wireless subscribers.
I am super excited. This isn’t my first encounter with “Get It Girl.” I was dancing super hard in the seat of the car the first time it got played for me. Be sure to check for In A Perfect World… this summer.
Look out for more from Keri on CL, and also be prepared for the new single! Check her out on MySpace and make sure you tell her Brian from CL sent you!
