I’m not a big Rihanna fan at all, but I think people are missing the point of why she’s being honored. For Barbados her accomplishments are a big deal, because they have never really had a Bajan do as well in entertainment as she’s doing right now. Nobody from Barbados has ever won a grammy, had a #1 single, none of that. I think we as americans try to shine a negative light on her day…cause we’re used to people getting grammy’s and hitting #1, so it’s not a big deal to us. She’s like an icon, and a positive role model for the youth. She’s doing really well, all the while representing Barbados, & I think this is their way of showing their appreciation, and excitement for her. Bob Marley has his own day in Jamaica, i’m not saying Rih is in the same boat as Bob Marley. My point being that he was doing so well, and doing something so positive that it was a good reflection of Jamaica, so they honored him. Barbados is no different.
