When I first read this I thought about Concrete Loop. How many posts are about light skinned Black women vs. Dark skinned? CL rarely mention movie news, but when they do they mainly focus on the next Beyonce movie despite the fact that plenty of Black women have been cast in THe Secret Life of Bees and Viola Davis is in Doubt? Biased. I think so.

The Great Debaters was formulaic and predictable and the BEST performance form that film was from Nate Parker NOT Jurnee Smollett.

I am one of two ways about Ruby Dee. People do get awarded for careers all the time. The white people. However, that role in particular…I didn’t see it being Oscar-worthy just because she got a few minutes of good screen time. On the other hand, Judi Dench won and Oscar in the same category for roughly the same amount of screen time. So there you go.

I think Julie Christie, who was heralded as best actress the whole season, was probably the one who had the most reason to be salty. Truly both female acting nods came out of nowhere. They were truly surprises. I was happy for the French girl and for Diablo Cody. I love that you can go from a stripper to an Oscar winner on your first try. Only in America!

But that was a pretty inspiring win. Next time it would be nice to see a sistah or brother up there with the feel good story. Well, at least Jennifer Hudson had one last year!

The Oscars were pretty boring.. I saw most of the films nominated and felt the awards went to who deserved them. I love foreign films and I felt Marion Cotillard in La Vie En Rose was AMAZING!!! She became Edith Piaf!!! Javier Bardem is the hotness to me so he does no wrong in my eyes! Daniel Day Lewis is one of my favorite actors and he did his thing in “There Will Be Blood” I will stan for Ruby Dee any day but there was nothing really outstanding by her short time in American Gangster. Hopefully she can find something else to truly showcase her ability.
I don’t know if Andre Tally picked out JHud’s dress again but she looked HORRIBLE! Her boobs were on her chin! NOT a good luck ma!

ruby dee didn’t deserve it and didn’t win it. tilda gave a better performance BUT Juno shouldn’t have won best screenplay b/c it was one of the most overrated movies of the year. it tried too hard and unsurprisingly fooled ppl into believing it was fresh/new/original with its pretentious and overly witty lines. it was not a flawless film like everyone portrays it to be. even though ruby didn’t deserve the win in my opinion, it is true that the academy tends to give awards based solely on the age/lifetime achievement of the nominee instead of giving the award to the person who deserved it. i’ve seen many old ppl win awards solely for being old and “in the game” for so long but they were all white actors/actresses so i do understand why some black ppl might be salty but don’t go around acting like she deserved that award b/c tilda deserved it but on the basis that awards tend to be given to old-timers, it would’ve been nice if ruby won. she might not get one until she’s using a walker or wheelchair
