I was randomly reading Pharrell’s blog today and peeped his post about Kelis’ video “Get Along With You”. He said: Kelis might have been a little early in her career to pull this off but she should still get credit, it was a great video! So true, and I should mention that was my jam back in the day. Weirdly, it was announced this week that Kelis will be releasing a “Hits” album featuring “Get Along With You” and many of her other innovative hits. Coincidence? I think not.
KELIS – THE HITS will feature a 14-song overview of her career. Pick up a copy on March 11th via Star Trak/Jive/Legacy.

According to Rap-Up, Kelly Rowland will release a digital album on March 25th. It will be called Diva Deluxe and five of the songs are new and two are remixes from her lackluster album Ms. Kelly.

‘Get along with you’ is still my jam. I love it. I still listen to it up till today. The video from day has always reminded me of the film adaptation of Roahld Dahls ‘James and the Giant Peach’.
The other throwback Kelis record which Iove is ‘Perfect Day’ written by Gwen Stephani off of the Wanderland album which was released over here in the UK but I dont think so Stateside. If you hav’nt already, you should check it out. Arguably one of her best.
I always knew these girls were foolish. Why oh lord why would you:
A. Make a “Hits” album without any hits!
B. Make a mini-album after you’re last album tanked horribly.
I just don’t understand it. These young girls don’t know how to do it at all. Im just so hurt by these young stupid ass females. Kelis and Kelly have lost relevancy in the industry. They should go underground for a while and comeback in a few years. Get a killer stylist, production and promotion team. Thats way you might get somewhere.

What people don’t understand is. It’s not up to the artist to release a greatest hits album. the label can do that by themselves because artists usually don’t own their own music. They did the same thing to Angie Stone. Since Jive being the terrible label it is , they probably released it on their own. Besides Kelis was way ahead of her time, Now ppl are doing this music she was doing back in 99′/2000 ie fegie, gwen etc..
It’s a UK budget Greatest Hits album. Kelis has had plenty of hits there to get one though. Both on her own and solo she’s had like 15 top 40 singles there.

Kelis has had alot of hits in Europe. In the US she didn’t have a hit until Milkshake and then Bossy. Greatest Hits albums are usually put out by labels so I’m sure she had nothing to do with it anyway. It’s most likely just her last obligation to Jive.
Not being typical is what makes her great, but it’s also what has hurt her in the US. Anyway, that video is one of my favorites w/the Tim Burton influence. I miss her long colorful hair too.

Well, I’m pretty sure Kelis had no decision in the greatest hits. She was dropped from Jive to my knowledge, so to fulfill her contract negotiation of a certain number of cds she has to drop another cd to fulfill her contract. Therefore, companies will do a greatest hits or whatever after they boot an artist and the contract hasn’t been complete.
ive always been on kelis from the start, she was the person who made me take notice of neptunes. i still to this day feel like no one can sing on a neptunes beat like her. Her and Neptunes just mesh. I feel upset when i think of people like GWEN, FERGIE being so sucessful but Kelis cant catch a break. Her album are always solid and creative and fresh. She needs to get back with the neptunes and maybe try to market her to the pop crowd because it obvious the r&b crowd doesnt get it.

I mean I thinks its a shame that LeToya ( not to take anything from her cos I bought her cd 2x since it was at a low price and it jams) topped her. N she was out of the biz for awhile when she released her CD. She already announced who she is working with on her next cd and I know its going to be good. Kelly maybe should talk with LeToya and let her write some songs for her…
@Cookie Luv i think kelis WAS innovative back in the day. i remember loving this song and loving her. i think at the time, she was out of the R&B box and ahead of her time. ppl didn’t really get her which is why she wasn’t famous here. not to say anything bad about R&B and hip/hop but her label was trying to market her to an audience that doesn’t really like creativity. think of all of the R&B chicks out today. name one that is original or creative (and she has to be mainstream not underground). ppl like kelis were destined to be underground hits or overseas darlings (b/c i hate to say this but ppl who listen to r&B and hiphop overseas do tend to be more open minded and they would appreciate kelis more). i think somehow she lost that edge though. i think songs like “bossy” messed her up. i completely lost interest in her after that song

Kelis is too innovative/creative for the U.S. She has had MAJOR success overseas. To us Americans it seems premature for a Hits album, but in reality she deserves one. I’ve been a huge fan of Kelis since her first album and I remember having to buy the import of Wanderland b/c they never released it here. With all the money these record executives are making, you would think that they would actually have the brains to properly market her here in the U.S.

Kelis is a very talented & unique artist & it’s a shame that a lot of people don’t understand her style. I wish people would stop slamming her for the greatest hits album. Hell, 99.9 percent of all greatest hits albums are made & put out by the record company when the record company is through with the artist. She parted ways with Star Trak how many years ago? This was bound to happen sooner or later. She made music with them for a good number of years. Shit, if Christina Millian can put out a greatest hits anyone can.
@ JustJenn–I ordered the import of Wanderland when it dropped so I feel u on that one. Kelis is severely underrated. While her hits were not mainstream radio-played hits, trust if you listen to all 4 records you’ll hear many songs that should’ve been drilled into our collective conscience like they’ve done with other artists’ songs. Umbrella or Fergalicious, anyone? They both drove me nuts at first and then….I was humming ‘em while doing the dishes and ish. LOL
I started playing Kelis Was Here on repeat in the car again in the last few weeks and I love it just as much now esp. Til the Wheels Fall Off and Circus! Her lyrics are interesting and her ability to switch it up, rock out, get funky, trip-pop and hip-hop all on the same record is cold. I need to find the mixtape too I guess.
Love Kelly and think she has a beautiful spirit and lots of class but she should chill with the re-release and act or something. I liked her guest spots on Girlfriends and just ordered The Seat Filler DVD so I can support that. Listening to her sing live not so much.

Don’t nobody care what Kelly is doing to be honest. Kelis has her own style… At least she’s not trying to be like everybody else!
the greatest hits album was put together to be released overseas only but jive is releasing it over here to officially release her from her contract, her manager said she was trying to leave Jive since july of 06 and even after the album flopped they still didn’t want her to leave at the time, but at the end it probably worked out for the best for both kelis and jive, shes better off being independent.
For all the poeple here bragging about Kelis having two hits are either showcasing their age or broadcasting their narrow minded spectrum of the music industry. Kelis is a pretty big R&B artist overseas and music doesn’t begin or end within the shores of the continental United States. EXPAND YOUR HORIZONS PEOPLE!
Oh and I applaud Kelly for her determination to succeed in this business. People are saying she’s dumb and silly when actually she’s being reactive to the industry right now which is a smart move. Since downloads are selling and cd’s are flopping, why not make your product available where the money is being spent? Marketing 101.
