NEW MUSIC FROM MARIAH CAREY
Tuesday, February 12, 2008

Mariah Carey finally has dropped her new single from her 11th studio album, E=MC². Emphasis on the word finally. From several sources, I have heard that Mariah has some risky records on the album, but it seems like they have chosen to stick with the typical Mariah-esque sound for the first single, “Touch My Body.” I have to say that I’m torn - I wanna like it, but I have to probably listen to it some more for it to grow on me. I’m hoping that Mariah releases something a little more edgy for her second single. Perhaps the T-Pain featured “Migrate,” which we’ve heard so much about.
Check out Mariah’s official site for more information on her new album, or her MySpace to listen to more tunes.

Nope. In terms of the production - it sounds like every other song she has recorded in the last ten years. Vocally it’s seriously lacking. She left us with very high expectations after The Emancipation of Mimi, and so far she’s not meeting them. Hopefully the next one is a banger.

It’s ok - but i never get the full effect on the computer. when i hear it in the whip or in the club bangin i’ll probably like it - it’s the same way I felt about we belong together. sometimes simple and easy is the way to do it. i certainly don’t want to hear a whole record full of wailing and blowing. gotta have lighter songs too to keep me listening. we all know the woman can sing if you listened to TEOM. i’m not the hugest fan, but i know i enjoyed several of the faster songs and slower ballads on that album - and i’m sure she’ll deliever to her fans again.

Correction: Ciara writes or cowrites all her songs. Rihanna can’t and doesn’t write for herself.
As for the song, it should do well but it’s not a banger.

I like the song. it’s not her best song, and it does not show any artistic growth but its a cute song. I think in this song she’s just trying to be contemporary with what’s going on today. The lyrics and vocal skills are kind of dumbed down on purpose but sometimes I don’t feel like listening to socially conscious music. Sometimes I want to here physically conscious music, and Touch My Body is interesting in that is shows off Mariah sensual sexy side. I’m sure there will be better songs on the album.

I think the song is great. I don’t understand that Mariah vs Janet ish especially considering that they are two completely different artists who respect each other. *shrugs* I love them both.
Anyways, for those who say that Mariah isn’t taking a risk I would have to disagree. Mariah’s risk taking is in the fact that she is not in her 20’s anymore and has put out a record that is adapting to what is hot right now.
That in itself is a risk- adding on to the fact that Mariah is an amazing vocalist who decided NOT to showcase her many octaves, heck she didn’t even do one of her trademark whistles (lol). It may not be seen as much of a risk as say her cutting off her hair and doing can-can moves but its a risk nonetheles. We all know how older women (and I say that with all due respect) are more criticized than their male counterparts.

Love it! Even though I miss the ol’ school classic Mariah Carey that could hit those notes, she’s still delivering. I ain’t mad at her!

I LOVE it! Yes, its typical, safe Mariah music, but I love her music so its ok. Plus, remember with Emancipation, she came out with “Like that ya’ll” which wasn’t so great, but then blew us away with “We Belong Together”, so I ‘m sure she’ll have many more tricks up her sleeve.

Re: 122
You need some medicine for those coughs? Because Janet writes her own music too. For someone you claim doesn’t write their own songs, she sure does won a few ASCAP Songwriter of the Year awards LOL.
Re: 70
What the F was that? lol @ you grouping Janet with Beyonce, Rihanna, Ciara, etc. SMH. I’m tired of that shit. WTF is wrong with people? You CANNOT put Janet Jackson with those names. These same people who hold this stance do not do that for Mariah Carey, yet Janet came out before her by 8 years! You saying that hypothetically if they were held up to yesterday’s standards…JANET JACKSON IS FROM THAT GENERATION. Come the F on now. NONE of these woman have done anything worth mentioning? Janet hasn’t done anything worth mentioning?
Hmm…Now I DIDN’T want to do this, but you asked for it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janet_Jackson#Tours
The Rhythm Nation 1814 Tour was Janet Jackson’s first worldwide tour in support of her multi-platinum smash album, Rhythm Nation 1814 before flying into Japan on May . The tour started on March 1, 1990 at the Miami Arena. The tour was a 9-month long venture. Criss-crossing the U.S.1990. The Japan tour was her first experience of foreign audience. She sold out shows in that country, most impressively, the 48,000-capacity Tokyo Dome with four shows, which still holds the record for the fastest sell out in the history of the Tokyo Dome, a record seven minutes. Then she also sold out shows in Hong Kong, her only Southeast Asian tour venue. She flew back to North America to wrap up remaining shows before flying to Europe. She performed in England, The Netherlands, and more with many sold out shows, ending the year with a bang.
# The Rhythm Nation Tour appeared in 25 countries.
# The tour opened with a sell out show in Miami.
# Beginning in March 1990, the Rhythm Nation Tour ran a full nine months and performed over 120 shows.
# The 5-date LA shows sold out in a record of 48 minutes.
# Janet collected 25 cents from each ticket sold in some of her shows and donated an accumulated $450,000 to the United Negro College Fund for the Rhythm Nation Scholarship.
# In the end, the tour spawned numerous sold out shows around the world and attracting over 2 million fans. This made the Rhythm Nation World Tour the biggest debut tour by any artist in history. The tour grossed over $28.1 million in the U.S. alone and it became one of the ten best grossing concert tours of 1990.
I DIDN’T WANT TO DO IT BUT YOU ASKED FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@THE FLOACIST At least we know Janet sure has been shutting shit down for the last 25 years and not just dropping albums. lol Really though was all that necessary? lol BACK TO MARIAH The single is cool, I’m not gonna be humming it in my sleep anytime but it’s a nice little diddy for the boppers. I’m sure like LA Reid said they’ll be dropping about 6 singles, at least try too, off this album. I’m still copping Janet and Mariah. Like someone posted earlier, I’ll be dancing with Janet and trying to sing like Mariah the rest of the year.
-SIDEBAR-JANET HAS MORE BILLBOARD AWARDS THAN MICHAEL AND WHITNEY? WELL SHE HASN’T BEEN MICHAEL’S LITTLE SISTER IN AWHILE. LOL GET ‘EM JANET

THIS SO IS GARBAGE, “if you tell… I will hunt you down” what the hell? I am mad she let this ish leak. Can we say you better go back to the studio and try again this is more like the “Imitation of MiMi.” I’ve never liked confused about who you are, found black years later when it became cool, Mariah Carey, but I will not deny that chick can sing but lately her lyrics and voice have been mediocre. Where is the voice? And I do not mean the high pitch note she thinks is golden I mean the range she usually sings on ballads I haven’t heard that ish since 1994 Hero. Come on Mariah.
the one has spoken….NOW SHUT THE BACK DOOR.

The song is just ok. This is really radio friendly,so I can see why it was chosen as a first single. With Emancipation, the whole was definitely better than it’s individual singles. MC knows she has to come with fiyah on the CD.
I just hope the video won’t be the standard Mariah videos *YAWN*

According to her site it said her, The Dream, and Tricky Stewart wrote and produce the song. For the rest of her album I we’ll be hearing the same thing since the producers now recycle beats.I don’t know about this one, but we’ll see.

Not feeling this at all. She needs to stop with the corny 16 year old lyrics. Its not cute!!! I hope she does better with her second single because if not, ppl will be VERY disappointed and Mariah’s ass will go back to Glitter days circa 2001, and I for 1, don’t want to see that happen again! Better luck next time Mimi…

Loved the knowledge dropped about JJ.. But this MC song I think its okay. I too want better from her. Leave this type of fuckery to Ciara and Rhianna altho that’s my girl but I want Mariah to come out with something stronger.

This track is kosher….. but I think it sounds like an intro or an interlude for the next hot song on the album. Almost like it’s about to introduce the HOTTEST track on her album. I like it though.
What’s funny to me is that Mariah hasn’t lost her fans- with her crossing over and all. think about it. When Tommy first introduced her, she was Pop, like when Clive marketed Whitney. And the success went through the roof! But when they seem to cross into mainstream of what I like to call R&Pop, Whitney didn’t do so well. Take Michael Jackson’s Invincible. I loved Floetry written “Butterfly”. As most of us R&B heads today, loved that album. But critics killed it. Janet teamed with Nelly, we saw for ourselves what happened to her album.
So all is to say……..
I like the song, but what I said in the beginning still stands

Very predictable and typical of Mariah. I’m not at the least bit impressed with this song. If this is how the album will sound, I’m just gonna burn it.

I absolutely love Mariah, and to me she can’t do no wrong.
But this song doesn’t really seem like single material to me….I mean I guess it does it’s job cuz the chorus gets stuck in my head.
But I’m sure she is gonna come out with a fyre second single…cuz Like that wasn’t my favorite either, but I loved WBT

Love this track my girl is bizaaaaaaaack.
I cant wait to hear this in the club with my drink in hand and flirting with a cute guy, or poolside with a hot lil bikini on.
Such a sexy breezy joint.
And love the album title very creative.
As for the Janet and Mariah hemming and hawing, i think it unfair both ladies are known for two totally diff things, but women are tralblazers, pioneers, and our generations legends , i’m glad both ladies are back with what seems to be some good spring summer music.

i like it. i’m glad she didn’t oversing this song.
it sounds playful….almost like foreplay.
don’t need her vocals climaxing on a song that probably isn’t meant for that purpose.
ya dig?

This song is catchy…Mariah knows how to work a hook, it’s pretty and the melody is contagious. Yes, the lyrics are a little young, but the song is playful and not too obviously sexy….I like the metaphors, I like the subtly.
Mariah is going to come with the fire the second single, what ever it is, no doubt. But this is a nice, solid introduction to her new album.
Big Up Mariah!

NI@@@AS KILL ME!!!! HOW YOU COMPARING JANET AND MARIAH. TWO DIFFERENT SOUNDS AND TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF SUCESSES. NO ONE TURNS ON A JANET TRACK WHEN YOU WANNA HEAR SOMEONE SING THEIR HEART OUT. THATS WHAT MARIAH IS FOR. ON THE FLIPSIDE, NO ONE TURNS ON A MARIAH VIDEO OR GOES TO A MARIAH CONCERT TO SEE A OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE. THATS WHAT JANET IS FOR. IT’S LIKE COMPARING APPLES AND ORANGES. IT’S LIKE COMPARING CIARA AND MONICA. TWO DIFFERENT STYLES! BTW THE TRACK IS AT BEST AVERAGE! I WAS HOPING FOR MORE.

MARIAH may write her own lyrics.. but they all sound the same, premature, immature, corny, and typical.. her LYRICS have never impressed me.. it sounds like something a highschool girl can come up with..
and this song is cute. but i really expected better… especially since she was bragging on her music. .and how much she is in love with the album..
and she serious needs to humble herself.. before this album becomes a flop..

for those already labeling this album a flop….i hope people judge y’all based off the first word/sentence outta ur mouth too.
lol.
folks ask for her to sing about something more than rainbows…candy….little girl shyt.
now the woman’s singing about the same shyt grown women be thinking about (if not saying)….being a little more sexual than what she’s used to & whatnot…..and she’s still getting booed. youtube, kinda corny, yep….but guess what, it’s completely relevant to 2008. wendy williams reference, corny, yep……still relevant though (esp. to those who live in NY….like MC).
lol.
folks are funny.
ion know about y’all…..but my life doesn’t follow the same script everyday. ion wanna hear the same message in my music over & over either.
i know this much though…..if she came out w/ another WBT type ballad…..people would be clowning on her for singing the same type of song. she can’t win for losing, and i’m sure she knows this.
so, do what u gotta do MC. you can’t please everybody all the time. but for what it’s worth…..i like it.

I don’t understand why anyone would think ALL of mariah’s song are corny and immature? How about Fly Like a Bird, We Belong Together, My Saving Grace and so many more. She is a living Legend and is just keeping up with the times. I guarantee this song will be No 1 just like her album will.
