One of the most prominent civil rights leaders of the 1960s has dropped support for Sen. Hillary Clinton in favor of Sen. Barack Obama.

On Wednesday, Rep. John Lewis released a statement saying Obama’s campaign “represents the beginning of a new movement in American political history” and that he wants “to be on the side of the people.”

“After taking some time for serious reflection on this issue, I have decided that when I cast my vote as a superdelegate at the Democratic convention, it is my duty…to express the will of the people,” according to the statement.

VIDEO: MARIAH CAREY - “TOUCH MY BODY”

Wednesday, February 27, 2008 |

Mariah Carey premieres her new video for her first single, “Touch My Body” from her upcoming 11th studio album, E=MC², via Island Records. I must say, even though the song is slowly creeping up to growing on me, the video knocked it a couple of notches down on my list of listenables. It’s just too campy and corny. Check it out and let me know what you think…

THE NEW MUSIC REVIEW

Wednesday, February 27, 2008 |

Trina feat. Keyshia Cole - I Gotta Thang For You (full) - listen
In all honesty, this doesn’t sound like Keyshia Cole towards the end, but I have no doubt that it’s her. “I Gotta Thang For You,” I’m sure, is a big contender for second single from Trina’s upcoming album, Still Da Baddest. I’ve never really been a fan of Trina’s, so I guess I’m not leaning either side of liking or disliking the track. I think this’ll be cool for radio, though.

Nicole Scherzinger - Who’s Gonna Love You (full) - listen
Here’s another Nicole Scherzinger song from her shelved album, Her Name Is Nicole. This song was produced by Polow Da Don. This is more pop-sounding song from Polow. I kind of dig the feel of the song, it has a very ’90’s feel to me. But it seems as though Nicole has already hit the studio with the Pussycat Dolls. So who knows whether or not her solo debut will ever drop.

FASHION ROUNDUP: THE OPRAH STORE / IMAN’S NEW LINE / ERYKAH FOR TOM FORD / SWIZZ FOR THE GAP

If Oprah was missing something, it sure was a retail chain. The Oprah Store last week near Harpo Studios on Chicago’s near West Side, where you can cop many of her beloved “favorite things”.

The store is said to sell everything from $13 cosmetic bags decorated with pastel O’s to “a pair of Gianfranco Ferré brown crocodile ankle boots worth $300, taken directly from Oprah’s closet.

And word is, this store opening is only the beginning:

Steven Keith Platt, director of the Platt Retail Institute, suggests that this may only be the beginning for Winfrey’s plunge into retail. “If the clothing lines take off, look for more stores and a licensing deal with the likes of Target, JC Penney, etc.,” says Platt. “Oprah Winfrey is an American icon. If she puts her name on an apparel line, it will be huge- way beyond her own stores. If Martha Stewart can make it big at Kmart, [there] is no denying that our girl Oprah can.” SOURCE
