Sen. Barack Obama has introduced his wife, Michelle Obama, as his “rock”—the person who keeps him focused and grounded. According to Michelle, she is just making sure he is “keeping it real.”

Mrs. Obama covers the Feb. 25 issue of Newsweek. She responds to reports of emasculating her husband:
“Somehow I’ve been caricatured as this emasculating wife,” she tells Newsweek. “Barack and I laugh about that. It’s just sort of, like, do you think anyone could emasculate Barack Obama? Really now.”
And mentions how she met her husband:
In 1989, she was assigned to mentor a young, unconventional summer associate by the name of Barack Obama. Michelle was unimpressed by the office gossip about the hotshot Harvard Law student, a biracial intern from Hawaii whom she dismissed as “a black guy who can talk straight.”
Michelle recently came under fire for leaving the impression that she hasn’t been proud of her country until now, when Democrats are beginning to rally around her husband’s campaign:
“What we have learned over this year is that hope is making a comeback. It is making a comeback and let me tell you something, for the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country. And not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change. I have been desperate to see our country moving in that direction and just not feeling so alone in my frustration and disappointment. I have seen people who are hungry to be unified around some basic common issues. It has made me proud.”
Bill O’Reilly took a call from a listener while discussing Obama’s comment who stated that, according to “a friend who had knowledge of her,” Obama ” ‘is a very angry,’ her word was ‘militant woman.’ ” O’Reilly later stated: “I don’t want to go on a lynching party against Michelle Obama unless there’s evidence, hard facts, that say this is how the woman really feels. If that’s how she really feels — that America is a bad country or a flawed nation, whatever — then that’s legit. We’ll track it down.”
Listen to O’Reilly’s audio clip and read the Newsweek cover story.
RALPH RUNNING?

Ralph Nader could be gearing up for another presidential campaign. He will appear on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, which is where he announced his 2004 presidential run.
Nader launched an exploratory committee last month and told CNN he was likely to get in the race if he could put the resources in place.
He added:
“John Edwards, the banner of Democratic Party populism, is dropping out, and Dennis Kucinich dropped out earlier, so in terms of voters who are at least interested in having major areas of injustice, deprivations, and solutions discussed in a presidential campaign, they might be interested in my exploratory effort.”
Nader also mentioned that he found Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama both unacceptable candidates:
“They are both enthralled to the corporate powers. They’ve completely ignored the presidential pattern of illegality and accountability, they’ve ignored the out of control waste-fraud military expenditures, they hardly ever mention the diversion of hundreds of billions of dollars to corporate subsidies, handouts, and giveaways, and they don’t talk about a living wage.”
He expressed particular disappointment with Obama, whose senate record he called “mediocre, and quite cautious.”
“It’s not that he doesn’t know what the score is, of course he does — look at his background, he knows plenty,” Nader said. “But he’s censoring himself.”
Nader, considered one of the most influential figures in American history, has run for president four times. In 1992, he ran as a write-in candidate for the New Hampshire Republican and Democratic primaries, among others. In 1996 and 2000, he was the Green Party’s nominee and in 2004, he ran as an independent, although he was endorsed by the Reform Party. Last month, Nader spoke at the Green Party presidential debate but did not take part in it.
Peter Camejo, who was Nader’s running mate in 2004, said he wouldn’t reveal Nader’s plans because he doesn’t want to upstage the announcement. He did say that Nader’s philosophy on elections hasn’t changed:
“You’ve got to keep running to raise the issues that are never discussed,” Camejo said. “There’s a whole series of issues that only a Ralph Nader would raise.”
Interesting, this Michelle lady.
and I’m first, goddammit.
i hope obama or hilary take it
Forgot to add… Nader has lots of strong points but he’s missing a few links:
(1) For capitalist economies, it’s very hard to dislocate money (and in American terms, corporations) from policy.
(2) Most Americans are way too dumb for a non-partisan approach to politics.
Nader is clearly on the wrong platform.
I’m politically apathetic but I think it’s amazing that through of all of the posts about who’s doing who and whatever that CL posts about what is relevant to the black community in terms of politics. I don’t think there is another site like it. Keep up the good work!
Can people even read? First of all, the word “really” is a qualifier. Her statement doesn”t at all connote that she isn’t proud of America, as she obviously said she is. And she clearly stated that she’s proud that Americans are now hungry for change. What’s wrong with that? And she gets attacked by McCain’s drug-addicted kleptomaniac groupie wife who’s obviously out of touch with everyday realities? It’s funny how bigoted morons keep grasping for semantic nonsense.
And… so fucking what if she’s been a little disappointed with America? What sane black person hasn’t at some point felt that way? What are these people, retarded?
DID O’ REILLY JUST SAY WHAT I THINK HE SAID!!!!!!!!!!YOU KNOW WHAT I’VE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS GUY……….HE NEEDS THE AXE……..NOW!!!!!!!!
MICHELLE IS MY IDOL!!! POLLISHED, ASSERTIVE, INTELLIGENT, AND BLACK….LOOOOVE HER

I Love Michelle
I like Michelle Obama.
Bill and Fox news are bias to democratics anyway I do now watch that channel.
NADER is hired by the MAN!!!
They always throw him in there to split the vote. He’s a puppet! No better yet a Muppet, dressed up all nicely to distract wishy washy people.
but we see right through you NADER! We know your not running to CHANGE our great country but to take away critical delegates that OUR MAN BARAK needs!!!! GO AWAY NADER!! NADER GO HOME!!!!!
Obama is the best.
>>>>>^^ look at beauty
Michelle Obama would make a fine first lady! It was indeed laughable how they took what she said and twisted it. I’ve been proud of my country too… and now I’m REALLY proud of it because history is about to be made!!! Go Obama and Hillary!!!
Obama ’08
Everything negative they say about Michelle Obama is just a repeat of the stereotypes about black women. Anyone who has have taken Women Studies 101 can see that. Black women are too strong, black women are the heads of the household, black women are emasculating, they won’t let their men be men. BullSh*t. Unfortunately this is just how women are treated in politics. Even Hillary gets attacked for how she dresses, for having a career, for showing emotion.
And any sane person knows that Bill O’Reilly/Fox network are racists but did he really use the word “lynch”. He knows he did that on purpose.
>>>>>>>>>>>>> Beyoncé to appear in a second Obama music video?
Posted on 21 Feb 2008 by webmaster | 0 Comments
Two weeks after Barack Obama delivered his “Yes We Can” speech in Nashua, New Hampshire, the Black Eyed Peas’ Will.I.Am assembled an all-star cast of musicians and actors (including Common, John Legend and Scarlett Johansson) to appear on his “remix” of the speech and the accompanying video, an arty, black-and-white clip that quickly became a YouTube sensation, racking up more than 4 million views.
Now, two weeks after Obama delivered another speech — this one from his hometown of Chicago, after a triumphant Super Tuesday in which he won 14 states — Will is at it again, booking time in a Los Angeles studio to record yet another pro-Obama tune.
“Right now, since we’re in the early stages, I think the song is gonna be called ‘We Are the Ones.’ It’s inspired by a line in his speech after Super Tuesday, when he was in Chicago: ‘We are the ones we have been waiting for,’ ” he told MTV News. “It lit another inspirational fire in me when he said that in his speech. So I decided to get to work on another track. We’re lining up people to appear on it right now, and that’s the easy part, because people are just passionate to want to be a part of it. There’s no casting … the inspiration is the casting director.”
Though the “Ones” project is still in the early stages, MTV News heard a snippet of the song, and, in keeping with the spoken-word feel of his “Yes We Can” track, it’s pretty minimal: little more than some Rhodes piano chords, some “We Will Rock You” handclaps and a chanted chorus of “O-Ba-Ma! O-Ba-Ma!”
“I kept it real simple and bare to the bones because it’s really more about what people are saying,” Will said.
So far comedians/actors George Lopez and John Leguizamo have recorded spoken parts for the track, and a publicist for the project told MTV News Jessica Alba, Ryan Phillippe, Ben McKenzie, Macy Gray and the Black Eyed Peas’ Tabu are slated to participate. And rumor has it that Beyoncé is trying to clear up her schedule to make an appearance too. The whole thing is coming together with a spur-of-the-moment kind of feel (in the studio, Will was collaborating with a New York-based percussionist via online chat service Skype), and it looks like that’s the way it’ll be until the song is finished.

Nader disgust the shit outta me—- i’m convinced his employed by the republican party just to try to upset and spoil the chances of Obama or clinton taking office in November
Nader is the reason Bush is the president now, he ciphoned votes from Gore, votes that could have turned the tide
Michelle, is just an inspiration— she is top notch just like Barack, and that’s what white america/fox news is scared/threatened by, but whats new society being threatened by a intellgent, powerful, no-bullshit sista?
@ 15
I agree on everything you say
its a shame, but thank god she is a strong black woman
I can see that because Michelle isn’t a mouse, the Right is really going to come after her hard once her husband is nominated. They are going to find every comment, picture, move to make her look like an out of control Hillary. America still has a problem with strong minded black women.
I understand she wants to convey a professional image, but does she have to dress like Betty Ford or Nancy Reagan? I’m sure the Obamas can consult a stylist b/c this 1960s dress isn’t cutting it.
I love michelle Obama! She’s a strong and intelligent woman and truly is the rock behind barack. I doubt anything will take her down because at the same time, she is realistic and isn’t going to take this whole “HOPE” thing overboard. She knows her limits and will be a great first lady. =)
When can we take the word lynching out of our vocab?
http://www.cnn.com/2008/P...obu/index.html#cnnSTCText
Obama takes heat for skipping State of the Black Union
Michelle Obama is really rude sometimes. She made a comment that if Hillary can’t run her home then she can’t run the White House. She also made a comment that if Hillary got the nomination she would have to think about supporting her. I’m sorry but I don’t think that’s cool and I think she is way out of line.
Secondly, the person who posted celebs getting involved in making another Yes I can music video. I had to laugh at that. Who cares what celebrities do or think? They probably don’t know what they are voting for or what Obama or Hillary’s policy stances are. THey are probably republicans at heart. And again I really hate the fact that celebrrities are getting involved in this election in any capacity because they will not be the ones who suffer if Obama makes bad decisions or choices we will. They will go on about living their rich privileged lives while we bear the brunt of Obama’s choices in the White House. So please do not be fooled or impressed by Celebrities involved in this or anything. Again I can guarantee you they have no clue what the issues or nor do they care. They are just doing it because it’s the cool in thing to do.
Is Obama Dick Cheney’s 11th Cousin? That’s weird.
Once again, FUCK BILL O’REILLY!! He is such a douchebag, using racial terms, in the same sentence of Mrs. Obama! Someone riot this guy and FOX cause ive seen the reports on Youtube on how racial they are! Its only a matter of time b4 Fox News is shut down!!
Get it Michelle !
Congrats to the new first lady for getting the cover. By the way for the first time in my 23 years I am proud of my country ( I give credit to Michelle Obama for using her words don’t want to be accused og lifting her words). lol
White people will never know what it’s like to be a African American in this country so they wouldn’t understand what we go throught. Racism aint went no where.
Michelle Obama is a strong black woman who intimidates those who still expect expect the ” Step and Fetchit ” routine. Obama 08 Yes We Can!!
Michelle will catch hell from those Grand Old Pedophiles…….
Michelle Obama seems to be a major positive attribute to Obama and his campaign. I dont think anything she has done or said has made him look foolish or bad. She is a strong WOMAN and some people dont know how to handle that. I also think its sad that some people choose to focus on her hair or what she is wearing rather than what she is saying. Some peoples priorities are so twisted,
OBAMA 4 PRESIDENT ’08
@ WACK MUSIC Celebrities are citizens of this country too, so they have just as much a right to have a say so in the politics of this country, for whatever reasons. As far as Mr. Obama is concerned you seem to condemn him before he takes the oval office. We all had to suffer and continue to suffer under the bad decisions and choices of George W. Bush. Frankly, I feel that Mr. Obama will make a great president and could’nt do any worse than his predecessors. Obama 2008!! Yes We Can!!
I am glad the Obama’s keep hope alive. Lets be realistic, it will be a cold day in hell before we see a half black president. He and Hillary dont impress me at all. Everybody thats running is full of shit, they make all this promises and once they are in power the promises become a distant memory.
WHACK MUSIC – #25 You are kidding right? Me and my friends said the same thing about Hillary Clinton. She keeps talking about 35 years of experience and “being ready on day one…” Ready, to do what. I agree with Michelle. While living in the White House without a full-time job her husband was getting his freak on downstairs with a 20 something intern. She believed his lies and went on national television talking about a right-winged conspiracy out to get her husband. Now, you mean to tell me that if she cannot discern the lies of her husband that she sleeps with every night that she is prepared to negotiate with enemies abroad. I think she has poor judgment and a win at all cost mentality. Rather than resolve issues in her own home and family she blamed everybody else. I’m sorry that is not what I want in a president. Michelle’s comment about having to think about supporting Hillary, isn’t that what reasoned and intelligent people do? They look at the history an the record and they evaluate what to do. Unlike Hillary’s 100% support of lying Bill she may have done better if she had given it a little thought.
OBAMA ALLLLL DAY!
HE’S WAT THIS COUNTRY NEEDS, BUT MORE THAN THAT, HE’S WAT THE WHOOLLLLE ENTIRE WORLD NEEDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@26 unfortunately so……………..okay if Ralph Nader runs for president I am going to punch him……………….he is the reason why Bush won in 2004 ………………..don’t believe me, go look it up online…………….after the 2004 election results all the news people were reporting that that fool blocked the democrats from getting in the White House, because independents who would of voted democratic voted for him and independents who would of voted republician did because they did not like him…………..all he does is hurt the democrats and help the republicians
Ralph Nader (waste of time and pain in my butt) = secret weapon for the Republicians, bet they are currently rejoicing and helping him get his ish together so that he can join……………I would think it is too late to join (if I was Obama or Clinton I would be pissed because they have been working their butt off for a year now and he just joins and gets caught up in their hype that they worked hard to create)…………..but you know that some idiots out there will vote for him……I hope none of them are reading this now
@36..i just died ..lmao i soooooo agree what a waist of breathe he is
@25 your comment is a joke, what this strong black women said is exactly what so many people were thinking..let’s not speak about rude..hillary has showed nothing but rudeness since the race begin
@j.dakar another job well done
All i can say is that if Barack wins he’d better sleep with one eye open.
Why is Nadar deciding to run now? I think people are threatened by a smart, intelligent woman such as Michelle. If she were white, no one would have a problem with her. However, the fact that she is a black woman categorizes her into this “angry, militant woman”. Whatever, people are jealous that this black woman could become president if she chose to run.
Wake up America, stop the black/white fight, there isn’t one!
If Nadar is supposed to be so influential and has run for president 4 times then why hasn’t he won any of the races? If he knows so much and can better America’s government then why isn’t he among the past presidents we have had running our country?
@ WACK MUSIC –
Broad sweeping generalizations of a group’s political awareness is WHACK!
Celebrity individuals have as much right as any other citizen to voice their political opinions and openly support the candidate of their choice… it’s called freedom of speech.
I’m happy Hillary accepted the invite to the Black State of the Union. I mean this is in a state that already voted, in a state she lost, but she was there anyway to show her support when she could’ve been campaigning and herding up the white vote in TX. Quite classy of her to think this was more important than campaigning there.
yesss ralph…. if americans would wake the fuck up they would know ron paul, ralph nader, dennis kuchinich and john edwards are the only and very last hope for any change at all… if you get what you ask for which is hillary or obama or worse mccain, you will see the bush admin. continue and get worse, its a shame people don’t know shit about politics and corruption of government that manipulates them.
@ #42 Chad
She has nothing else to do she lost the last eleven primary’s she has nothing to loose. I truely believe she is there (if she really is there a hour ago she was holding a press conference in Ohio) to get the balck vot back incase she gets the nomination. But from what I heard and read Blacks folks aint feeling Tavis Smiley right now.
Obama better bring his “A” game to this Tuesday’s debate, cause Hillary is PIST!!! She is mad about false fliers that Obama’s campaign is mailing out in Ohio about NAFTA and her Healthcare Plan. I just watch a video of her on CNN.com and she is angry. She said to meet her in Ohio and we will discuss you tactics. He says he was going to run his campaign one way and doing the exact opposite. The Texas debate was just a teaser, he going to get it now.
Side Note: I also just watched her speak at the Black State of the Union and she gave a really good speech. She had a lot of support their, yet I cause see so many of the young black people in the audience just mean mugging her for no reason. I thought that was just a damn shame. At least she came to speak and didn’t try to send Bill or just not show up.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/P...gs/index.html#cnnSTCVideo
That is the link to the video, and Hillary is steaming hot!!!, and she is right, but I am mored than sure the Obama supporters won’t see it that way.
>>> why does c.b. look like that in that first pic down there..
>>>>>>>>>> and my mom said “omg Mario is gonna be on the
>>>>>>>> dance show i said i no .. i gotta watch
WACK MUSIC I’M SO TIRED OF YOUR CUNT ASS!!!!!!
HERE WE GO WITH THE STEREOTYPES!!! If Michelle was the witch people are trying to make her out to be, Barack would have NEVER gone this far. Behind EVERY strong man there’s a strong woman, and vice-versa. Look at Denzel. THIS is the power of love. This stereotyping ish is getting so tiring and predictable.
@ 34 GRACIE, co-sign!
If Ralph Nader can get some good talking points through his run all the better. He’s helped bring about a lot of reform that others in the gov’t would not do, for example seat belts on all cars. If enough people clamor for things to get pushed through then all the better for us! Obama may play it ‘safe’ [really he's being smart]. It’s a chess game and you have to play to win. He knows exactly what he’s doing. Obviously that’s why his campaign is doing so well. Everything HRC accuses Obama of doing is stuff SHE has been doing the entire campaign and worse. She kills me with the hypocrisy, but people are not as dumb as she may think…well actually I may have to rethink that one! Also what is interesting esp in that it is NOT being covered in the main stream press- is the campaign finance fraud trial the Clintons have tried to squash is finally proceeding. Paul V. Clinton. Look it up. There’s video on the net. It looks slightly biased but the core of it seems fairly accurate. This is why we do need change and transparency. It’s far from over but I do get excited at the possibility of having a real first, a Black First Lady [who knows what time it is].
Keri Hilson’s releasing her new album in May 2008 includes production from Danja,Timbaland,Polow da Don,The Underdogs, Organized Noize, Bangladesh, Tha Cornaboyz, Tony Dixon, Eric Dawkins, Justin Timberlake, and Tank.
Look out for the first single “Return the Flavor featuring Timbaland” in March. Since Concrete Loop doesn’t feel the need to inform you about the project I will.
vote for Rona paul? You are killing me. Yes, let’s put a racist in office and see all the “fun” policies that he will come up with. Please do some research before you choose the candidate whom you want to win.
Obama is gaining too much support
Nader is just joining to take votes away from the democratic nominee
Just as he did last time
He and the GOP are working together….
Please stay out the race Nader
Strong black woman my ass..i’m a strong black woman. Like paul mooney said if he win or lose it’s a win/win situation. Don’t be fooled by the glitz and glamour aka celebs.
Im very interested in Michelle Obama
it sounds like shes pretty sharp
and Im still trying to figure out what this Nader guy’s angle is cuz they all have them
especially when they come around at the last minute
Nader aint sayin Nada
he can kindly keep it movin because he cant stop the reign
IT’S STILL OBAMA ALL DAY
Barack got these haters flyin out the woodworks
im lovin it!!!!
Well I agree. She didn’t rag on America. We are overall a great country but we have some problems and we’ve been knocked way off track. Whats wrong with saying she’s happy a lot of us now see that and want to try and fix it? The Obama’s are still good with me.
Oh I pray Ralph Nader does not come into the race. He IS going to split the vote among Republican and Democrat if Obama is the Dem nominated choice. I cannot believe Nader’s money power. Every Presidential election he gets his feet in. I truely believe he is going to split the vote. History does repeat itself. Politics is about numbers and that what it going down too…
Michelle Obama would make an outspoken First Lady. She is going to help Obama run the country. Yes she stated that she was going to keep their professional life separated. But actuality she going to be Obama liason. She is a strong courageous women. She has said that she would like for her husband to be at home with her girls..but the world is in such shcambles (as McCain said we would be in Iraq for 50,100, 1,000 years) she sacrificed her husbamd to change the US and how we are perceived to the world….People we are in trouble its only going to get worse with a Republican in office… Straight down the middle we are going to be in a caste system The rich and the Poor society. We are headed toward a Socialistic society just like Russia use to be back in the day…. Vote Obama 08….
Only a drone would never question their countries’ actions. Michelle Obama is not the only American who’s been periodically disappointed by her countrys’ actions.
There are times when I too am sick of the racial and economic divides in this nation. I too have wished that some Americans would release their fear about other races and walk the so-called Christian walk that they profess to be engaged in.
Many of our citizens claim to be Christians yet, they hate the poor; hate other human beings(whom God also created); hate people of the other gender; hate those who are homosexual-to the point of murder; judge every person they encounter-as if they have been given Christs’ power. All these behaviors are against Gods’ word. He will judge each of us based on our own actions in our lifetime.
Caring about other human beings doesn’t mean you want to visit their homes, marry their children or even take what is theirs. It means you realize that their welfare is tied to yours and what happens to them affects you eventually.
Yes. There are times that I have not been proud of the way some in this country have behaved- discriminating against it’s African-American citizens, against Immigrants-especially demonizing it’s Hispanic Immigrants and native-born hispanic citizens, against it’s poor-ridiculing them and treating them as subhuman.
I too am awaiting a day when American leaders of every level can really live the Christian life they profess to believe in.
Obama ’08.
I’m really loving this couple…i bought the mag as soon as I could get my hands on it…they are truly inspirational!!! love it!!!
Michelle needs to shut the hell up.
She’s not the candidate and doesn’t need to make her self the story. she’s made a few over-the-top statements, and only gives fodder to others, that they don’t need to have.
I cant wait for Obama to win. I want to see how bad this country gets with him as president.
